Custom games work very well now. Pantheon and Skirmish are mainly 2v2, they had a spurt of 3v3 a week ago, but now it is mainly 2v2. In general they work. I hear they are releasing a patch today, I hope it does lots of good stuff.

It can still take a while for players to connect when starting a game, and people still do leave-- it's far from perfect.  But your question was whether or not it is enjoyable, and it definitely is.  Most games I play in people stay, and if I find myself having trouble connect, I just try a different server, and it usually works just fine.  Sometimes you just can't connect to certain players, and i'm sure they are working on fixing that as we speak!

I have just started playing online this week and I have not had a skirmish or Pantheon game with more than 2vs2 players in it, also some pantheon games turned out to be 2vs1... awesome.  So no, it doesn't look like it is possible to play 3vs3+ unless you play custom games.  Also:  Out of about 10 games played online, 7 of them started with multiple "a player has left the game" disconnections.

Custom games are playable because most of the people where it didn't work gave up.

It really only works if you know how to forward ports on your router.

AND there are still crashes, random disconnects etc.

Playable but not what you would expect from a solid game 1+ month into release.

It does, doesn't it....

the overly long answer -

i was a beta player and also affected by the connection problems at launch.

as of beta 3 i've had a great time playing this game, and i'm of the temperment where i can forgive 'little' things knowing who SD are and that the game will be supported for some time to come.

so, that said, this weeks been the first time where've actually been able to get back to enjoying what i did at the begining of the year and so i'm v.happy.

yes, it's only really custom games that are playable. though i seem to be having more luck than others here as mine have all been 3v3 with about a 60% completion rate (that is everyone making it to the end of the game, if that sounds low then look up ragequit)

and yes, there's a patch due today (latest on that is a "should be" from Kryo) so that may fix a load of things but potentially break things too, so wait and see on that.

point being that you should definately come back and give it another bash if you've already paid for the game, things have become a lot better then at launch, if not quite yet reaching the full potential of the game.

it works fine. connection speed and stability is improved 1000% from launch. they also re-coded their NAT facilitator and added a proxy server system so players who previously could not connect are now able to connect to one another. 

Sorry to say that, but No, the game isn't enjoyable at all !

They released a more bugged patch with v1.01.

Don't buy it now, wait 3 more months I think, the time needed for this game to... die or be finally fixed !

Give me a break, 1.01 is much better than anything before from my experience.

So yeah, I'll be playing something else. Thanks for saving me the time to find out.

Patently untrue. I have experienced no real problems with the new patch. No one is dropping out at all during games. The only limitation is that the lobby doesn't always list properly.

If you like the gameplay you should be playing. I'm really enjoying myself.

All my games were with at least 6 players yesterday. Most were 8 player games. I played about 6 hours with no drops. Time to sync up in the lobby for everyone is under 60 seconds once everyone is available. That includes time to rejoin if necessary.

It's only you, see the forum, see the chat, a lot more ppl are complaining about the new patch again....

DoubleDigit, my recommendation is to wait, the game isn't fixed now and is far from it. I was nearly a fanboy before 1.01. Since the last release, i'm srsly thinking about refund and forget this game and have fun on another game which isn't bugged as hell.

I'm really frustated and angry with this game.

works fine for me. new patch has introduced zero problems. connectivity is smooth and easy in the Custom Games.

i played 4 games last night, each with 8 or 10 players. no drops or disconnects.

patch 1.01 increased connectivity for me, and yes the game is definitely enjoyable.

doubledigit you really should give DG a second chance...

Not really.  I just crashed in the lobby and now the game says my username/password is wrong.

Way to go Stardock.
