New patch, still unplayable connectivity

I *STILL* cannot play Demigod at all. Pics illustrate my problem.

Wait what? Demigod kicks you entirely off the internet? Is that what your pics of your messenger and stuff are indicating?
That's a new one for me.
Oh- also.. it looks like you may have ports 6100 & 6200 open. And not the range between them? Or maybe that's just how your router displays it. A hypen is more commonly used to denote ranges.
Best of luck. ![]()
Demigod is broken for many customers with no relief in-sight. I'm sorry to say that this otherwise fun game will not come close to reaching its commercial potential. It is quickly shaping up to be a lose/lose proposition for GPG/SD and players alike (IMHO).
Hey dude, same same problem. Many others suffer from this problem too. Lets wait and see Stardock's response.
Whats with the disconnected IMs? Any way, the next step is to check any firewalls on your computer. After that, check your modem.
open up a command prompt and run ping -t www.google.com
Now play the game. See if playing the game also stops your pings from working. I'm guessing it does. ie it looks like you lose your entire internet connection when trying to play.
I know you've probably done all this but....
Have you
1. Tried connecting direct to the internet without your firewall? (could the firewall be siezing up under the stress?)
2. Verified your ISP is not throttling you when you try to play?
3. Tried playing via Gameranger (does it work with that?)
4. Tried playing a 1v1 game instead of 2v2 or greater? Can you play against 1 other player?
Good luck
replying so I can seee the damn replies...ignore this post
Few more details:
1) I have disabled all Windows Firewalls
2) Ports 6000 to 6200 are forwarded to my IP
3) Yes I loose my IM connections when I try to play Demigod
4) My brother has NO connectivity issues when playing Demigod on his machine (64-bit windows 7 7048)
5) Heres the truly odd thing - I reverted to Windows XP and had NO connectivity issues whatsoever, I connected to everyone and every game without needing to use /serverproxyonly
6) I tried Vista had same problem as above, I tried multiple different builds of Windows 7 on both x86 and x64 and have the same problem
7) Yes I tried /serverproxy only on Vista and Windows 7 multiple times - it has never made any difference
8) When playing on XP, I could play 3v3 / 4v4 / 5v5 absolutely fine
hmm...maybe you got some stupid packet filtering running in your non-XP boxes. Try checking your network settings for things like QoS or something else that might be the culprit.
QoS = ?
Quality of Service. It determines which packets are more important than their peers.
i.e., Movie file packets usually have a very low QoS priority. You can drop a bunch of them and still watch streaming video just fine. More important packets... like VoIP-related traffic... has a higher rating. Losing packets would make the connection cut in and out.
If you haven't messed with the settings to make them do something already, they are probably defaulted. If that's the case, it should not be the problem imo.
I would not have changed those settings at all. And it doesnt explain why on the same computer on XP demigod is perfect yet I reinstall Vista/Windows 7 and I can't play at all.
well it is very suspicious that one OS causes the problem and another doesn't. That's what makes me think it is a difference in what network stuff is installed. Vista/Win7 may be defaulting to certain settings that XP doesn't which are causing your problems. I don't know how to diagnose it though...
One thing you could do is install some network snooping software and enable it just before starting DG. Do DG long enough to encounter your problems then go look at the snooping log and see if there is anything in there that indicates what is happening to the IM traffic (or the DG traffic for that matter). When I get home tonight I'll see what it was that I installed last week to diagnose a problem I was having with network traffic.
So no one can figure this out then? ![]()
Assuming others can play with vista, this seems to have to do with vista/windows7 default config and/or your router/isp.
Btw, you got DHCP enabled, but the Port Forwarding is on a specific IP, you sure you always get that IP?
We have no QoS installed. Same OS, same router, same ISP, it works for me and not him.
And yes, that is a range 6000-6200
For now I suggest you just get a dual boot minimal XP running, to play the game.
I've gotten the same issue. Demi god has dropped me from the internet for about 5-30 seconds.
UPDATE: new patch makes no difference.
Ok here is something for you to try to see if something funny is going on with the packets being sent.
Go here and download wireshark 1.0.8. Install it. Accept all the defaults. Make sure you run the installer by right-clicking and choosing "Run As Administrator"
Now when you are getting ready to start a session of DG and have your IM running and all that crap...
Run wireshark. Make sure you start wireshark by right-clicking and choosing "Run As Administrator".
Click the menu item Capture -> Options
In the new window, select your NIC from the "Interface" dropdown list.
Click Start
Now run DG and have it do its thing where it fubars your internet.
Quit DG and go back to wireshark
click Capture -> Stop
If you get an error that it did not collect any data, then you may need to repeat this process and before clicking Start, find the checkbox on the Options window for "Promiscuous Mode" and uncheck it.
Once you've successfully captured some output, you can click Save to save the output to a file for analysis.
Now you have 2 choices - try to analyze the packets yourself using the Wireshark interface. Maybe it will tell you something you can understand. Or you can PM me and I'll give you my email address and you can email it to me and I'll look. It might be helpful for you to do the same thing on a computer that is working properly so we can compare the 2 and see if anything is different. I'll warn you in advance - the file contains all your network traffic while it was capturing. If DG does not encrypt the login info when logging in, then your Impulse password will be sitting in the file. Same thing for your IM app if you login while capturing. If you send the file to me, I suggest you login to IM before capturing and if you don't want to trust me, then change your Impulse password to something temporary before doing this test and change it back afterwards.
good luck
Thanks to the above poster, I will try that out.
Phazure, can you please send in your ImpulseReactor.log to me at [email protected] so that I can take a look at it?
I most certainly can CariElf. Just a warning that it will come from phazure[at]hotmail.com so make sure your junk filter doesnt screen out my email.
Here' s a post where I had a similar issue (demigod seems to kick me off the internet).
http://forums.demigodthegame.com/352604
I was running Vista at the time. I no longer have this issue. I believe I was able to resolve it by re-configuring my router (WRT54Gv8) and reconfiguring impulse reactor. Then, the issue stopped completely. A few weeks after I upgraded to Win7 and still do not have the issue. I'm not 100% I have the best settings possible, but I am certain that the issue stopped after I made the changes.
Impulse reactor settings - start port 6100. end port 6200.
