I don't know how long this link we stay good for since they've been trying to keep them off, but dang, this is really awesome.  It's a trailer for the new Yamato, and it's nothing short of amazing seeing those main guns fire lazers at the enemies with hundreds of fighters duking it out.

It tries to combine the two.  Plus, the yamato gun on the Battlecruisers from Starcraft are based off of the Wave Motion Gun that is mounted on the Yamato.  The video dosen't show it, but that gun is capable of bombarding an entire planet and cutting through Solar Flares of the sun.

Ah that takes me back. I loved watching Starblazers as a kid. The Yamato (Argo) is one of my favorite starships.

Somehow I don't think the modern version is going to recapture the rampant nationalism of the original. Which will be something of a pity really, as that was clearly the point.
