Can the Regulus players help me out please?

Can the Regulus players help me out please?

My favorite DG so far is Regulus, but I am having issues playing him to the full extent of his abilities and I am hoping that a few of you might be able to help me play him a little better. While I am not brand new to the game, nor am I by any means a super player. And I just want to use this guy effectivly. While some other DGs are a bit easier to use, he has a certain style that I really like.

Here are some of my questions..

1. Most (not all) of the other DGs have some sort of AoE ability to help them farm creeps in the begining of the game. Often I find myself lagging behind in levels because I can't seem to get the creeps down as fast as others in the first few levels / tag multiple mobs at the same time to rake in the exp. My only real idea here is to take his mines right off the bat at 1st level, but then I tend to get rolled on by another DG if they show up at a meet point like a flag etc. What can I do to increase my creep killing in the starting levels yet not completely gimp myself should an enemy DG show up?

2. His snipe ability seems very weak in terms of damage and channel time. I find that often when I spy an enemy DG who is finaly below a certain HP threshold where snipe might be effective that by the time snipe goes off they are already dead from another source of damage. How am I supposed to use snipe effectivly when it does not deal out a significant damage portion? I mean what am I doing wrong? People say its fantastic but I can never get a kill with it. Is it just my timing or should there be something I should be looking for or doing to beef up the ability? Do +weapon damage items increase its base damage and make it viable?

3. I read and I see people talk about staying at range and firing on targets as you retreat etc, Is there an effective way to do this? How do you click to retreat to an area, retarget a DG, fire, and then click to keep retreating in an effective time so that the enemy DG does not catch up to you and beat you to death with your own limbs?..beyond stacking movement speed items?

4. I still have problems figuring out what he needs for equiptment. Getting the things I think he needs like some mana and speed for example, leaves him very squishy, yet if I go for some straight up health and armor stuff then I find myself running our of mana constantly and getting the snot pounded out of me while trying to stay at a distance. What kind of gear should I be looking for?

Those are may main concerns. I guess my biggest problem is the whole exp / creep thing. In almost every game I play I am L3 while everyone else is pushing 6 or 7. And then its just a slaughter and I have no hope of catching up.

Please help! I really love this DG and would really love to be effective with him. I understand he is a harder one to play, but I just really like his play style.. i think lol

Thank you in advance for your help!

I've been looking for builds myself and I seem to go against the grain of every build I've found.  Still, I've found this build works the most logically for me:

-I buy the 2nd best chestpiece and helm (have to wait a couple secs) right off the bat which seems to help a little with my squishiness and mana regen

-I take Angelic Fury first to give myself AoE at level 1.  I either follow with the Snipe or the extra Range.  1 point in extra range allows you to take out towers without getting hit.  So it really depends on if you want to focus tactically or be better at killing opposing DG's.

I fill up Angelic, Snipe and the Scope as much as I can.  I've seen some very effective strategies that use mines and kiting but to me the purest DPS build is to max range, snipe, and aoe ability.

I understand the concept in Regulus in that he is probably the squishiest (lowest HP) of anyone, but to me he still seems underpowered.  Yes this is mostly a phenomenon at early levels, but that is also the most crucial time where you don't want to be falling behind...

You will never, ever be able to take out an UB or Oak in 1v1 without mines, and as someone pointed out here earlier, mines are also an AoE, which works as well as angelic fury.

I've actually stopped using angelic fury lately, and it has worked out very well for me, as I can get stronger mines earlier, and they deter quite a lot of people from getting close.

It's probably worth noting that the Heart of Life is no longer going to be very easy to get after the next patch, so you may want to rethink your strategies and builds for regulus somewhat. In particular the anklet for favor is far less appealing than the Blade of the Serpent, or the Wings of the Seraphim, since the latter two will solve EITHER your mana or your health regen issues to give you more staying power.

I go with an AF/Mines/Mob build. I'm more inclined towards taking the Wings of the Seraphim for favor and playing to conserve mana, so I'll use AF to kill creeps and switch back to normal to harass. I only go for a MoB/Mines nuke if theres another player with me and we have a chance of really hurting them or getting a kill.

Another tactic you may want to consider with mines is that once you ahve mines 2 you can throw 6 mines almost directly on top of each other. Only in rare circumstances will both sets of three not go off, and if you put it in an area that isnt part of the normal creep route you can cause issues quite easily. I sometimes do this before I rtb, since I'll get the mana back anyway.

I definately won't be taking snipe post-patch due to the mana cost.

hi im new here but play regulus i like the snipering with him its a good help for the other dg in youre party you can assist them from a great distance.

its hard the first lvls but later on he can kick ass from a distance.

a good thing is to buy items that ups mana and mana regenaration and movement speed and fireing speed.

the faster regulus become the more dangerous he wil be.

and ofcourse buy some good def and health otherwise its hard to kill dg.

the other thing is to kill some dg is to damage them first then when they wil run when there almost dead then use the sniper abillity, then you dont have to run afther him to kill him xd}:)

il play regulus this way:first sniper then schooting like crazy and then to finnish it sniper again,il always use my wings to its nice to do some more damage}:)

greetings NOSFERATU}:) }:) }:) }:) }:) }:)

This is completely wrong, a speed/AA build can successfully kite and kill both of those DGs without mines, with maxed MotB it is easy.

Also, mines may be an AoE but they don't count as direct damage to the creeps, thus they don't give you the full exp or gold.

Speed Reg builds are pretty risky. Once you get stunned its all over pretty quickly...I take HP stacks over speed, but take the speed wand for the occasional escape/chase.

Kiting Oak is doubly risky since penitence will slow you.

Well, the OP asked about AoE for use in early game, and that is why I suggested starting out with mines instead.

I still am of the opinion that it is impossible to kill an UB or Oak using AA early in the game. If you manage, you aren't up against a skilled player.

Late in the game, it might be possible to kill Oak (without speed buffs), but not so with the UB. His speed will always, always be superior to yours, and he can stun you and suck the life from you, and spit kite right back at you. Again, if you manage to kill an UB late in the game with regulus, without using mines and without using snipe, you're not up against a skilled player.
