Do not want proxied

For players outside the US we do not want to be proxied through the US, as it creates pings >500 for many people.

I've scoured these forums and the interwebs trying to find out how to prevent being "proxied" but to no avail, apart from a vague mention of port forwarding, mainly on a site or 2 other than this one. And i do not beleive there is any helpful info in the "SUPPORT: Solving Connectivity Problems" thread.

So, I've forwared the ports: 6073 and 6100-6200 for UDP, disabled firewalls on the router and the pc and disabled all virus/malware protection and I still cannot make connections with local players, which results in getting proxied.

Any helpful info and/or people out there?

The international proxy locations are planned to go live this week. If you're already forwarding everything correctly though, it's possible that it's something at the ISP level preventing you from getting direct connect or even NAT-T.

I'm in Australia and was plesantly surprised when the proxies worked for me. My ping isn't great whether I proxy or not as most players seem to be US anyway but direct connect is still faster in custom games.

What ISP are you with?

ps. how did I get negative 450 favour?

I'm in Australia too and my ISP is Internode which I'm pretty sure other people are using and connecting fine with, what should i be looking at with regards to NAT-T? I'm running Windows XP SP2 and i've read that SP2 has the feature which can be enabled. I'm at work atm, so i can't check if it's on or not, but is that what you're referring to?

End of Krjal's quote

I'm only trying to connect to local custom games, so when i get "proxied" my connection goes from me, alll the way out to the US proxy and then allll the way back to the aus/nz player resulting in pings of almost 600. If i were only connecting to US players then the diffence of going through a proxy would be negligible.

Are you saying that you can direct connect to local players but get proxied for US games?

I would suggest you wait for the international proxies. This has been a issue with oz players for some time.

As for the ISP, I am with Bigpond and if it is a problem at the ISP level their are going to be a lot of disappointed Australian players. Bigpond is by far the biggest ISP.

i am from asia and i dont get proxied, so it must be your isp

I'm with Bigpond as well now (though considering iiNet). I use the /serverproxyonly switch for pantheon and normal for custom games. Aside from the crazy stats problem everything's working pretty well for me.

I would not worry about the stats for now, they have been talking about resetting them after they fix everything.

Might be a good thing for me :)
