How many demigods will there be SD?

How many demigods will there be SD?

If i remember right GPG is in charge of new demigods.. but i was wondering if anyone from SD knew what amount they were     shooting  for by the end of the year.

I suspect most of the playerbase would be willing to pay for new Maps/Demigods DLC? I sure as heck am. Especially new maps. :X

Not only is it expensive, it seems to take a long time to make a demigod.

I think we'll get 2 more demigods for the year and that's about it.  Expecting anymore for this year would be a disappointment. I would guess an expansion pack will come out next year that includes another 4.  Everyone should still be able to play together regardless if they bought the expansion pack or not.

So how about a yearly expansion pack with 4 demigods.  Sorta like Dawn of War 1 and it's expansion packs.

I'm  willing to pay 30€ again for another 8 demigods.

And I'm only saying that because 30€ is quite cheap for a new game in germany ... you usually fork over 50€ for new full price titles in a store.

Make them as payable DLC then.

On consoles this is common practice and i think Demigod is perfect for this.

THIS is ruining gaming. Pay-for DLC is evil. I'm happy to pay for a full-blown expansion pack, but the level they have taken it to with DLC is horrendous. Next we'll be paying to put a clown hat on Oak.

Maybe if you guys had a "mod" competition. Release a toolkit or something similar so those pro modders out there (they do exist) can give it a shot, and get people to make Demigods. Then pick the best 6 or whatever and add them in. The winners could recieve a cash prize or some type of bonus. Basically you would be getting extra activity and free extra Demigods.

Now I dont how viable it is to just say "release a modkit for making Demigods" so I may be talking out my ass here.

Fan made demigods would be a good idea if it is controled by SD/GPG, modding is always a good way to get free stuff done for games.

HateForest, i know very well what you are saying and i agree 100%. It was a nice idea at first, but now it's gone too far. But for Demigod it could work very well, it's a win-win situation for everyone: we get demigods (and maps) from time to time (not waiting a whole year for an expansion with 8+ demigods) and everyone is happy. Anyway, as long as they don't start releasing clown hats for Oak, like you said....

As for fan made demigods, imo they can't be done with good results. This is not like in DOTA where heroes have 3 poligons for the head. Demigods in DG need a lot of work in 3dmax, texturing, animation, spell effects, sound effects, etc. You need to be a very skilled modder to do this. It's not impossible, but i'm doubtful...

I would pay for additional demigods but I think the game needs somewhere between 20-30 dg's.

I agree it's doable but very hard. So the logical thing would be to let players/modders think up of a design (like a pensil drawing, if they can, or just a textual description), backstory, spells, etc, and have GPG make the graphics. The cool thing is we already have a forum section for this and lots of great ideas have been posted for maps and demigods. The sucky thing is GPG doesn't seem to care much, as none of the ideas has gotten feedback from them. Creativity is there for the taking, productivity is in GPG's corner (not saying GPG is sitting about doing nothing, but they should give some feedback to all the great ideas on here).

Dalzyk's suggestion about the mod system is spot on, if you open the game up to modding you will see new maps and new DGs. People will try them and some of them will be crap and fade into obscurity, some of them will be good and will see common use in custom games. SD/GPG can then take the good mod content and integrate it into a patch (provided their mod SDK has a license permitting, and with the mod author's permission of course) so that everyone can use it.

Yes, 3D modelling and animation is hard, but if you take a look at what modders have done with other games, like crysis, and the source engine, you'll actually find that there are a lot of very talented people who want to do this kind of thing. Effects coding is similarly a niche area that an even smaller number of people are familiar with, but again, there ARE people who can do it, and if they can access the effects already in the game and tweak them you'll be surprised at the quality of some of the results.

See the community maps in TF2, like hoodoo and steel for how this is done elsewhere. (I actually dislike steel with a passion but thats somewhat irrelevant.)

I'm hoping for 10 DGs with the current game and around 16 with an add-on (buyable, obviously). More would be great, but being realistic, each new DG is going to cost exponentially more in terms of testing time. Adding a 17th means testing against 16 other DGs and ALL those combinations, ouch.

Same sort of thing with maps, a couple of extra maps for free DLC but then LOADS more with an addon pack.

It would be nice to get a slightly different class of DG as well, perhaps a holding class (e.g. the Rook done right), or something along those lines.

Edit: Just a note, I dont fancy custom made DG's. Balancing issues would be a nightmare and it would just ruin the gaming experience. Perhaps custom made maps, that could be serious fun making your own but I dont see it taking off big time either way.

I would buy an expansion for Demigod.

*shrug* Nobody's ever forced me to buy horse armor in Oblivion, character costumes in Soul Calibur, or other worthless features that are generally offered as DLC.  People paying extra money for useless junk hasn't affected my gaming experience at all.  I don't see the point in being upset about it, especially when the folks here are suggesting 'useful' DLC like additional Demigods and maps and such.

Opinions will vary, of course but for my part, given the choice, I'd much rather get a new DG and a map or two every couple months than wait a bloody year+ to see an improvement in the form of an ex-pack.  If they want to make some money on a clown hat?  Ok.  I'll laugh and wonder who's buying things like that and happily keep playing without it.  They turn a dime on a few suckers and I continue enjoying the game.  No harm done.

I'll pay $5 per new DG ;)

Eh,

I am not a fan of paying for DLC. If a developer listens to thier community and makes the DLC worth a purchase its different. However, most DLC has been an complete dissapointment. If GPG makes the content worth its salt, then maybe i sould purchase the content, but I dont think DLC should be considered an investment in thier community and not so much an investment in thier bank account.

The new connection patch has been quite good. If the game keeps strong, I'd definitely fork 20-30 bucks for an expansion.

I would pay $30 for an expansion with about 8 DGs and at least 8 maps.

I would have no problem paying $5 maybe $10 for 2 DGs every few months or something.

Just make sure people with out DLC can still play with DLC users so we do not get a split community.

Hmmm, I have to admit as much as I love this game, a large portion of my excitement was the idea that it would continuously get new demigods throughout its life.  Paid DLC per DG is a poor idea, and desyncs the community.

Considering new content fuels new buyers more than the other way around, it is in their best interest to release a couple every couple of months.  I shall remain hopeful that this is what will happen :)

I think is too early to speak about expansions

A couple more DGs would be nice, but is more important to get the existing game balanced (some items are useless)

Some more maps however should be less of a problem (balancewise) than adding more DGs

The maps we have now are fairly standard in layouts, some innovation would be nice (capturing a real portal would be nice, one that teleports u somewhere)

Also a 1v1 map is needed (or 2 :) )

more 2v2 and 3v3 maps would be appreciated as well

they need to gives us 2 dgs and gpg needs to give over 2 dgs.

also they need to add 12 more maps for free.

after the way they launched this game to us thats what they need to do.

all i see is sd stepping up to the plate i see or never read the dev from gpg stepping up and say they will give us something free.

agian it was sd that gave us 50% off on another dg game not gpg. it was sd that gave us 20% off coupon on any game on impulse with more to come.

Dammit i want the morons that actually made this friggen game to step up.

Frog has been the only one trying to save his companies name and gpg could care less. IMO gpg are just in it for the dam money.

they already stated that impulse will not be part of sup2 and yea gpg called sd saying he was misunderstood. Do i believe that hell no. want to know why. Well gpg has been on these forums what 3 posts and have i do not care bout our name, we only care about the money attitude.

they need to step up and say ok here are some free bies too to show us gamers some luv.

see the sad thing is league of legends gona have 40 gods at launch. they will have map editord as well/ they already stated new content will be made. so if gpg dont shape up before september they wil lose alot of people to league of legends

As the publisher, that sort of stuff is our responsibility to do. We're being the public face so GPG can focus on improvements to the game.

coming out and saying hey we know we messed up so we know what sd is doing but we want to let you (the consumer) know we are sorry and to make things a little better we will also habd out a few freebies.

also for all the people that say the 20% coupons suck well remember sd did not have to give us anything.

Ugh... I would certainly pay another $30 for an expansion, but it ends there. DLC is an unchained animal. I only make so much money, and really can't afford to be paying for minute changes in $10 increments.

Please please please go for it Frogboy! I'm sure we will pay for a retail expansion if the content is convincing enough. I would like nothing more than more demigods and maps.

This is a Stardock game normal people can play =P Lets keep it going.

I would think anywhere from 16-24 in total, if they are all really polished and distinct/balanced would be great for a good mix.
