Demigod Idea- Luciel

Stealth based female demigod

Luciel (lou-seal)-  New Stealth Demigod

Disclaimer: I know people each really want or really hate stealth based idea but give this a shot as I hope to find a great balance with this.  Also I suck at story telling so if you hate the backstory I am sorry.

Appearance

Luciel is a average hieght woman at around 5'6''.  Has long dark hair with purple streaks but wears her hai rolled up in the back.  Wears a light version of warrior armor under a dark cloak ( can see parts of the armor on the arms and upper legs).  Uses a dagger in one hand but has another weapon she uses for certain skills.

BackStory-  Luciel was a common place thief from her early teens to her late twenties.  She robbed anyone she could to get by as her parent were killed by a dark spirit when she was four when they tried to steal from his tomb.  She was adopted at the age of five.  Her adopted parents, while they cared for her and gave her a roof over her head, never cared for her and did this only because they knew her familes history as thieves and wanted to steer her away from that life.  Unfortunately Luciel found out about her parents past (not how they died) when she was ten.  She then secretely trained herself in the art of thievery.

Luciels' adopted parents found out about this the day of her 13th birthday.  Luciel wanted to celebrate by robbing a wealthy man that lived in their town.  She was caught and they forced her adopted parents to abandon her and leave her to live on the streets.  This is when Luciel became a master theif as she had to rely on it to live.  When she turned 26 she ran into her old adopted parents again and she asked if they knew how her parents died.  They told her the truth and for nearly three years she searched for the tomb of the Dark Spirit that killed them to try and rob it to accomplish her parents goal.

When she finally found the the tomb she found a gauntlet near the entrance that allowed her to hide from her foes for a few seconds but she hadn't had the experience to use it consecutively and thus had to wait atleast two minutes when she first got it.  She used this and snuck into the tomb and quickly hurried and looked for anything of value.  After just four seconds she became unclocked and she heard a scream and a spirit appeared in front of her.  The spirit shreaked and swong a massive claw at her but the gauntlet she found became shrouded in a dark-purplish haze.  The spirit screamed once more but started to become absorbed into the gauntlet.  Luciel stood there stunned and just tried to hold the guantlet still as the power became to great for her to control.  With a last chance attempt at escaping the Spirit vaporized and let itself become consumed.

Luciel thought she had won and looked around the tomb for more artifacts.  There she found a Dagger that became clouded in the same dark-purplish haze everytime she held it in the same hand as the gauntlet.  Luciel then fell to the ground in pain as she felt the dark spirits power inside of her.  The spirit then talked to her telepathically.  The spirits name was Mezirous.  She is a spirit that can teleport freely to a shadow realm.  They became one.  Luciel harnessed her new powers and by the age of 37 became one of the strongest, fastest and deadliest thieves to ever live.  She had the power to rival the strength of any living or non living being she ever fought and single handedly killed enemies that ravaged and destoryed cities.  She wanted to be a god and knew the only way that could happen was to fight other gods.  She entered this tournament to achieve that goal.

i kind of skimmed through your post, but this is a big no-no for a stealthed hero.

Well I just think being able to completely null and void a demigods main ability with a 50g item is just ridiculous.  What if we change it to something like

If Luciel stands within a placed totem of revelation for 3 seconds he is revealed.

By placed I mean not in the inventory for clarification.

or something like that because otherwise any type of invis abiltiy will never happen.

i agree 100% with your comment, i would love an stealth hero in this game, but unfortunately the majority of people in this community cannot take the idea of having a hero with an invisible ability, because OMG it ruins the games fun.

Well everytime I see a argument about having a stealth based demigod they say the reason they don't want it is because "they can just stay invis as long as they want and wait for a easy kill".  I think a quick lasting invis is the solution, especially when it isn't used just for escaping.

Well you haven't really presented a reason why you think invisibility would make improve the game.

I would wager most people who are vehemently against stealth have been frustrated by WoW's implementation of rogues, and I agree with them 100%.  The problem is that in WoW there's an extremely limited amount of counters to stealth, the game is simply balanced to give them the opener 90% of the time.  Effectively there is no counter to stealth, you just wait for the other team to stop using it.

Demigod would be the same if there weren't sweeping changes to the other DGs, because currently there's only one stealth counter in the whole game, and both of you don't feel it should even work against a stealth DG.

The majority of skill in this game is gauging risk vs. opportunity, and even a temporary stealth which would allow another player to show up out of thin air without some kind of telegraph (like teleport scroll animations) would alter that balance too dramatically.

I was thinking the other day about a ninja DG, though I thought a japanese demon would be a more exotic candidate than a human, and I'd rather see this kind of thing as a stealth alternative:

Flash Bomb - The Oni (generic interim name) throws a powerful flash bomb at his feet, leaving a cloud of smoke which disorients and blinds his foes

Rank 1 - Stuns nearby enemies for 1 second, reduces the vision radius of enemies in the cloud by 8 and gives friendly units an 8% chance to dodge

Rank 2 - Rank 1 - Stuns nearby enemies for 1 second, reduces the vision radius of enemies in the cloud by 10 and gives friendly units a 16% chance to dodge

Rank 3 - Stuns nearby enemies for 1 second, reduces the vision radius of enemies in the cloud by 12 and gives friendly units a 24% chance to dodge

Rank 4 - Stuns nearby enemies for 1 second, reduces the vision radius of enemies in the cloud by 14 and gives friendly units a 32% chance to dodge

Rank 5 - Putrid Vapors - Enemies in your smoke cloud suffer 150 damage per second

- smoke cloud lasts for 5 seconds

Obscenitor although I would love a stealth based class you are correct in saying we cannot provide a reason as to why it would improve the game.  The best we can do is showcase ideas and hope we can come to a balance in how a invis could work in this game.  I think my idea for a invis can be worked as a great basis for how one should act.

I am gonna try to provide a counter reason for every argument I've seen as to how it would be detrimental.

"They can stay invisible until they score a easy kill".

A invis like mine would mean they can only stay invis for a infinite amount of time once the player is 15.  Not too mention it is then costing them 850 MP every 8 seconds.  Plus the only way to guarantee to get in a easy attack is if they use Shadow step.  This cost another 800 MP.  Once they get 15 they can now root the target (which I can guarantee will be changed from a 2.5 second root for balancing reasons).

So now the only way to get that "easy" kill is once your 15+.  Even still if your invising to get that easy kill that means your not killing and plus you are on their side of the base since an easy kill just won't happen by your base.

"A invisible character has no counter withing the demigod universe at this point."

I am gonna edit my post as I guess I didn't clarify but while invisible they cannot be attacked from a demigod directly but any AoE will hit them (stuns will knock them out of invis).  While any direct target attack (pounce, penitance, fireball etc.) will be inneffective any AoE can hit them and do dmg still.  This makes TB a insnae counter as you can freeze them for a few seconds wasting almost half of their invis.  and even ending that with a deep freeze will prevent another invis once the first invis wears off.

About the totem, I was completely wrong at first it shouldnt be completely ineffective.  But it should only be effective when placed on the ground.  so someone playing as stealth class? spend 150g on three items that will completely null most of the moves.

"WoW's invis allows for cheap early shots and is completely unbalanced for invis classes"

I don't play WoW but I do know what your talking about from friends.  Only thing is this isn't wow.  In WoW they are quite a few skills you could get off just from being invis'd.  In this you have two, and one of them cancels the invis.  I agree there will always be that cheap shot you can get in, but how is that different from a max range regulus getting a bunch of shots in before someone closes the gap?  Since the only time invis is "super powered" is 15+ a regulus can deal a huge amount of damage in the 2-3 seconds the gap is closed.

I forgot I wanted to mention that idea you put up ahead, I think that would be a great idea but it isn't stealth, it is just another debuff.  If you are fighting someone and use that, guess what they will still be hitting you.  unless it forces them to untarget you (which will be ridiculous) they will not stop attacking you.  It isn't stealth but can be a great idea for a support character.

its the same as if someone wanted to say something about dota.

Demigod isnt WoW either.

agreed...  stealth is a must for strategy building games.  not so much the game play (that more of a psycological strategy) but for playing against it.  with invis heroes you need to work more with well placed nukes, stratigicly placed totems, learning to draw the hero out of invis for gank etc.

that said the limitation to having an invis hero is that they must obey 3 thinks:

  1. Must be visible with detection items as well as when in range of towers
  2. Can only be invis for a short time before having to recharge/cooldown/gain mana
  3. When attacking invis heroes must come out of invis (same with abilities)

if you have an stealth Demigod like this (which form what i read above, needs a bit of work) then it definately adds to the depth of the game.
