Should I buy this game

Hi guys,

I've been watching reviews and reading some of your posts for a while but I'm not quite sure if I should buy the game or not. Is it stable or is there still some connection problems? Should I wait for a few more patches or are you guys having a blast? And what about the game modes? Which one should I play if I wanna have fun , and which should I avoid (read that Pantheon is a mess...)?

Thanks to those who'll take time to reply,

Skulh

My friends and I picked up Demigod a few weeks after release, and we were instantly addicted.  We were fortunate to not have to experience many of the frustrations others have reported regarding connection issues, as we haven't had any problems at all playing Custom games.  I haven't tried Pantheon yet, as like you, I've read about various problems, but I'm anxious to get into it as soon as some of the more serious issues are ironed out.

That said, Custom games have been a riot.  Finding games is quick, even during some late night sessions, and aside from the occasional ragequitter, almost all games have been a ton of fun.

Yes, there are still some issues... stat tracking, bugs, Pantheon, ragequitters, etc... but I believe if you just get into it now to have some good fun in Custom games, give SD/GPG a chance to work out the major issues (which I believe they've been doing a fantastic job with so far), and hold out a bit before going into "competitive" mode, I'm confident most people would enjoy Demigod.

Go buy it so we can have more people online. I hate looking at the game list at prime gaming time of the day (saturday, 5pm) and seeing 5 (five!) games on the list and 2 of them are pasworded. I also hate joining one of those 5 games and then waiting 10+ minutes for it to get full and the game can start.

I really like it and think it's worth it.  The connections have been fixed now.

Well if you never played any other RTS or any competitive game i say yes go ahead nad buy it.

<rant>

And if you play competitive games i dont recommend this one.

A SHITLOAD of bugs - im not even gonna start with BASIC stuff like pathing or using skills wich is ridiculous currently

Not working ladder ( pantheon ) - 80% of the time either your ally or enemy drops or the game is started intentionally with AI. Im not even gonna say how fucking retarted is that a matchmaking system puts AI in online games. And i would like to say that i never get dropped ( got 1 disconnect in ~80 games) but theres always someone that does.

Even if that wasnt the case panthon is still messed up, by far the wrost  matchmaking system i've ever used. IT RANDOMS YOUR ALLIES  WIHTOUT LOOKING AT YOUR SKILL. The very idea of such matchmaking is beyond me. Same goes with skirmish matches.

So what we are left with ? Custom games. No modding whatsoever. Close to ZERO community features. Just connect to a game and watch as the premade opposite team is ganking on your allies that play the game for the first time. Sure you can also get some friends and go beat other random team newbs, couse thats fun right ?

Oh and please understand most of the users posting here are fans of stardock ( i know i am ) and they tend to be very forgiving and i hope after they read my post they will snap out of it. I love stardock and i understand they just made a bad deal. GPG really fucked this one up and no amount of frogboys post is gonna repair the game. He has to make a good face as a CEO i just hope i wont see anymore posts of him saying "pantheon works" couse that really is a load of bollocks and we all know it. After someone corrected him he apparently got offended lol ?

You know whats the worst thing ? 1 in about 20 games is actually fun. I kept playing this piece of shit just becouse of that one game you get every few days that actually fun and balanced. I presume that what stardock saw when signing a deal with GPG. Now they are left with a game that shouldnt even be called a beta version and they are probably obligated to support it and handle the community. They are paying for it  and we are too. Good thing i got it with -50% so i dont really care if i get a refund now.

This is like the party when you spend 20$ on cheap alcohol get asted and have some fun, then for the next week you vomit and get text messages from ugly girls and friends laughing at you.

Its that bad.

If you're just looking for something that's a lot of fun to play and don't mind minor but not gamebreaking bugs, go for it!

But if you're into matchmaking and super serious play, like Butcher said, you might want to look elsewhere, because SD and GPG are gonna have to haul ass to sort out matchmaking, stats and teams in a timely fashion.

It is not only a game that has worked out its problems to date, but also has enormous potential for the future.  A worthy investment, it's hell fun.

I think it safe to say that Butcherski's view of the game would be the opposite of "mindless fanboy". Some of what he says is true, but a bit exagerated.

No modding whatsoever. Close to ZERO community features.

Modding and community support is on the way. Connectivity issues are pretty much fixed. If you liked that DoTA style of gameplay, I'd definitely get it.

It is a lot better, but a lot of it is on the users end. You got people that quit as soon as they see they aren't  teamed up with their friend. So these quick alt+F4s are creating these 2v1 matches. I don't think it'll be fixed until they allow people to arrange teams verses PuGs.

Just connect to a game and watch as the premade opposite team is ganking on your allies that play the game for the first time. Sure you can also get some friends and go beat other random team newbs, couse thats fun right ?

Well how would any competitive game get off the ground? We must nurture our newbs so they may become apart of the community. :sun:

If you are looking for a super hardcore, fair, balanced competitive game with PERFECT match making...it's not there yet. They have stated it's on the way though and I still think it's fun in the mean time. You buying it can only make that more likely to happen faster :D

Don't get the game at this point. The demo should be out in a couple weeks, and you can try it then.

I would have to agree with connatic, I am sure that Stardock and gaspoweredgames or whoever is in charge of this will straighten every thing out in time, maybe they didnt get it right, right out of the gate, but I am sure that they will continue to push forward to fix all of the issues, As far as fun YES it is fun.......and will  be even more once they fix everything, so yeah buy it, you can get it off of ebay for 16.00 bucks brand new right now..........

Tx for your feedback, guys!

So if I understand correctly, the game still needs major work in some areas but IS fun to play (except for Pantheon!). With Butcherski's post in mind, I might still buy the darn game ( ) and cross my fingers that Stardock corrects those issues. One last thing tho, you guys need to know that I'm a total noob at this kind of game (I mean RTS). In fact, I've never played DoTA. But I've watched gameplay footage of Demigod and it looks like it's a lot of fun.

So I might just see you around sooner than later...

Tx again.

It's important to note that the connection issues are only fixed for custom matches. If you plan on playing Skirmish or Pantheon (tournament mode) they are far, far from fixed.

I personally wouldn't rebuy this game if I knew how nonexistent competitive play would be. I mean I have played with small communities but there is no compeitition at all.

Fun game. Probably good for a few games a week. Not for a gamer.

Skirmish works fine for me, although I agree that Pantheon is pretty fubar.

Personally, if I were you I would wait until the demo comes out so you can try it for youself. By then more of the problems should be fixed and(hopefully) there will be added features, like clan support.

I just bought this game and I'm enjoying it so far.  I have had trouble joining pantheon tho, but when it's up and running its fun although I lose alot.

I passed it over the first time given the shit reviews.  But when I read that the whole reason it got shit reviews was because pirates flooded the servers causing connectivity issues, and Gamestop being the royal cunts they are and releasing it early, I decided to give it a try and help the company.

Then again that might have been BS considering people still talking about connection issues.

Don´t buy it. Download it an play wit friends on LAN .Thats the best way to get fun out of this game.

I did the mistake and payed good earnd money for this betaversion......

Right i´m no Stardock Fanboy ;)

An honest answer from a fanboy - buy this game if 2-4 months of enjoyment are acceptable for the price of admission.  Granted, that's not so bad, but I can't honestly see myself playing this game for more than another month without some changes or something to make the game more fresh.
