Trying out TB. What about a Full Ice Plus Fireball build?

I haven't put any thought into items other than the obvious.

But what about this skill build? Think it'll woyk?

1 Rain of Ice

2. Fireball

3. Deep Freeze (for the interrupt)

4. Fireball

5. Rain of Ice

6. Nothing

7. Fireball and Rain of Ice

8. Frost Nova (To set up for future use of shatter--and occasional present use, though it's not too powerful now)

9. Nothing

10. Fireball and Rain of Ice

11. Permafrost

12. Deep Freeze

13. Deep Freeze

14. Deep Freeze

15. Fire and Ice

16. Biting Chill

After this I could just max out Frost Nova and Permafrost using the last four skill points. I'm not sure how powerful these upgrades are, though. The description is vague concerning Permafrost. And I'm not sure how valuable it is to be able to stun enemy DGs for an additional 2 seconds using fully upgraded Frost Nova.

But anyway, the idea behind this build would be to do a lot of farming for exp, and when dealing with DGs, to just keep switching between fire and ice, doing two fireballs, then the chain of ice attacks (nova, rain, deep freeze) then back to fire and rinse and repeat.

Any hope for this build? And should I indeed max out Nova and Permafrost? Or should I do fire nova instead? Or circle of fire? Would the circle of fire remain after I went ice? I haven't tried that yet.

This is actually the general thinking behind the Hybrid Build for TB: Fireball is an awesome spammable skill, and frost lets you win and control an encounter. So yes, I think it is a pretty reasonable build.  I go about mine a bit different, as I focus on Frost Nova over maxing out rain of Ice (frost nova is sooo good).

The one thing I have come to appreciate however, is that Fire and Ice is probably not as worth it as it looks:

  • You end up spending a lot of points of Deep Freeze
  • Level 15 isn't that common a level to get to.

Both of these to things often mean wasting a good chunk of time between levels 11 through 14 getting skill points you mainly won't use.

IMO Fire and Ice is not worth it by the time you usually get it. Better diversify your spells so you can constantly be spamming novas and stuff, rather than waiting for cooldowns on your arsenal of 3 spells.

I have tried out a similar build, I find it only really gets good late game i.e. level 20 when you can have 3x uber shatters, but usually by this point the enemy has 8k hp+ or the game is already over :p

A nice assassain build is rain of ice maxxed, permafrost maxxed, 1 point in deep freeze, 1 point in the nova stun, and 6 points in stats. Good items = mageslayer, narmoths ring, nimroths armor, vlemish helm, boots of speed + wand of speed.

Easy to chase down enemy demigods, reduces their attack speed by loads, has 2 interrupts, and nice auto-attack dps.

I play tb a ton, don't be under the impression that your auto attack sucks just b/c you are a 'caster'. You can often do more dps per second in the early game by just auto attacking than using fire ball. Fireball is just great for its range. Lets you harass from far away.

Hybrid Tutorial and discussion

Biggest problem with hybrid build is it really takes a lot of time to take off.  It can be very strong late game, but it's very likely you are never gonna get there.  It also needs a lot more mana than pure fire build.  You basically need to play as Ice TB for most of the early game due to mana constrains and fireball dilluting the build too much early on.

Additionally, while Ice TB does have a functional auto-attack (in contrast to Fire TB), you still spend large portions of your time casting (and changing form as hybrid).  You also have to move a lot in order to position correctly for some spells and still stay out of harms way - though definitely not nearly as much as Fire TB.

Finally switching Fire-Ice can be exteremly annoying in heated games.  For example I play Fire TB pretty much exclusively, but I switch mode a lot early game.  But late game it's pretty much fuck it - not worth it.  I wish they would change it to being able to move while switching mode.  It would add a lot of depth to both TB and QoT (and both are definitely in need of some love).
