How are Pantheon matches determined?

As title states, I am just curious how pantheon matches are determined.  What importance does rank play in relation to number of people searching.  Is the rank even a factor.  I've noticed quite alot of my games lately have been against teams way below my rank and that of my teams(teams of rank 500 and below playing teams at rank 15000 and aboce).  I've heard ranking system is flawed.  Just would like some clarification, as it could be quite detrimental to ranking system, if current rank plays no role in matchups.

Well, there might be a clever matching system based on rank but since the rank (xp) is completely broken, it doesn't help much...

Not convinced it should matter for Pantheon since it SHOULD be a random free for all (ie no premades, anyone versus anyone). It's not a ladder game. It's just FoL v HoD.

Of course, when they introduce proper 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 ladders, then we'll see what haps.

The system does try to match teams of similar rank, but I believe it currently prioritizes getting games going fast more at present. So unless a lot of people are queued up at once, it'll tend to just match who's there as best it can.

If you look in the upper right corner it will tell you how many other players are currently looking for Pantheon matches.  You'll discover that it's not many.  Usually between 3 and 6.  The most I've EVER seen is 9.  When your pool is 3-9, it can be difficult to find 4 or 6 evenly matched players.

It generally does pretty well with what it can.  For example, if 2 good players and 2 new players are looking for a game it will split the good players up rather than stacking the teams.

I think the algorithm is probably pretty good, the questionable matchmaking is simply a result of not enough players.  If you want better matchmaking in Pantheon tell your friends to play Pantheon.

Remember, you can't quite compare this to automatching in other games.  Nearly all games focus on 1v1 for their automatching.  So even if the automatch pool is small, it's much easier to create good matches for 1v1 than 2v2 or 3v3.

I think Pantheon is doing pretty well right now.  Finding a match doesn't take too long, and connections are generally fast and reliable.  It might be worthwhile to let people wait a little bit longer to hold out for a better match, but that's a judgement call and a difficult balance to maintain.  If it's really an issue (and i don't think it is) there could be a minimum match quality and a timeout if it can't meet that quality.  Then you recieve a message "There aren't enough evenly matched players looking for a match right now.  Please try again later."

It will get better as the game grows.

You can compare it to warcraft 3 and wow, which both have very effective matching queues and almost always pair you with someone your rank...  unless you play at odd hours and there's not enough players in queue, which is more similar to this game's community atm.

Now obviously I have no way to prove it, but I think that as the game grows the matching will improve quite a bit.

Any chance you could reduce the priority and increase the priority for competitive games?  I enjoy getting into a game quickly, but I have also been party to some really bad stomps.  Pantheon should be the place for fighting people of equivalent skill.
