Magnus Rod: A good mana substitute for a HoL

The Magnus Rod is what all of you mana-dependent HoL users should try using. If you look at the stats, it may not seem terribly impressive at first glance.

First, it has a pretty good passive, +50% mana regen. Also, it's active ability means that your mana regen only needs to work half as hard to refill the mana you use. Spells that cost 400 mana now only cost 200 mana with the Magnus Rod. If your mana regen is 20 mana a second, you refill your mana in 10 seconds instead of 20. I've found that I only need a Vlemish and a Magnus Rod for my mana-heavy builds. Plus, it uses a consumable slot and leaves your gearslots free.

FYI magnus rod when activated reduces mana cost in half for 5 seconds!!

Has a cooldown on 15 seconds

so that only leaves you ever with 10 seconds of full mana cost

Interesting.  I tend to not allocate more than just a Vlemish helm to mana purposes, and buy maybe 1 or 2 robust mana potions though. While this item is actually pretty impressive (15 second cooldown is super fast!) I'm not sure if the gold cost is quite worth it.  Might consider it in the future though.

On the mana side, I always said the Rod was better than the HoL, because you can use it combat every 10 sec (15sec - 5sec use). It's cheaper than HoL and the passive mana regen just can't be ignored. Definitely worth having !

Yeah I discovered this recently and I was impressed.  The cooldown is really short, and it works great for chars like reg to pop before planting mines, and on beast for a quick spit and grasp at half cost.  The amount of mana you save adds up really fast.

But yeah, I was hoping this would stay a secret.  Tee hee.  Oh well.

I'm a fan of this for erebus, since he tends to do combos that burn mana really fast (bat swarm + bite + sleep, imagine all that half off).

I used this item even when HoL was cheap..

I agree, it's a perfect item for character with cooldown of 10 secs or more like Regulus mines or Ice Torch!


Vlemish + Magus Rod is pretty much infinite mana, in fact many times I will just stick with a Scaled Helm and w/ Magus rod your mana stays up for  LONG time.
