New Player

Give advice, not lip.

Just a message from a new player....

It doesn't help when folks bitch and complain about the fact that I'm new and am not an expert.  I can't get any better unless you're willing to work WITH me and help me learn rather than just ignoring me and bitching at me.  I take instruction very well.  I don't take kindly though to people just being asses.

My two cents.

In my experience most people who are asshats like that aren't very good anyways.

Sounds like you got matched up with some elitists, most people i've played with aren't like that just keep playing and try to make a few friends who can help you learn.

I agree with all that you write.

I prefer a "new" friendly player who can take instructions any day from a skilled "rambo style" player who does his race and doesn't help or communicate.

A few nice pointers for a new player:

1. Read the strategies section on the forum. There generally is a build or two for your favorite demigod that can give you some hints and/or inspiration.

2. Get healthitems. These give you a bit more room for mistakes and more time alive = more experience faster.

3. Practice offline. It may not be as fun as online play but it's the perfect place to try out new tactics, items, Demigods and builds. Sure the AIs ain't that hard but you will get to learn to play your favorite Demigod fast.

Hope this helps and remember to always be nice to the oposing team aswell as your teammates. Winning isn't everything as a loss vs a nice oposing team is still a nice time spent playing.

Dear New Player,

1. Beat single player at least on Hard difficulty.

2. Read forums.

3. Join "noob/new players" games.

4. Learn from your mistakes/other peoples' strategies.

5. Wear flame shield against elitists.

In game tips:

1. Stack health

2. Don't die

3. Play as a team

4. Don't die

If you are joining "PRO/GOOD/SKILLED ONLY" games then you deserve the flaming, sorry. You are welcome to ask questions on the forums on how to play X demigod and I'm sure that many people will give you ideas which you can check out. I usually tried my new builds in games with noobs so I can monkey around. I suggest you do the same.

Have fun

Nobody likes people who spend there game crying about somebody not knowing what they are doing. Shame you got stuck with a d-bag. Like someone said best/ most hassle free way to learn to play is to read some of the guides in the strategy section.

I've only had a few games were someone was crying about my sim speed, wich really they can kiss my ass not all of us save up our money to supe up our computers

Hope you find some games with some decent humans, they are out there.

Yes, so the people who did buy super computers can be synched with you at your -2 sim speed? play on 640x480 if it works with a decent sim speed. Don't be a douche.

For new players I would advise NOT playing pantheon at first. As mentioned above, train against the CPU, then make some custom "noob" games with your favoured god(s). If you feel you are right for good competition join pantheon. It´s really frustrating playing a 3on3 where one "fresh" player thinks he can go 1on2 (cause he plays UB ;-) ) and feed the enemy, making it impossible to win in the long run....

Welcome!

my top tip for those kinds of players is to say something like "sedna doesn't need to get heal" or "UB really needs his spit buffed"

the more he vents the easier to ignore he becomes.

but hey i'm a sadist.

otherwise most peeps seem to be cool (EU side anyways) and once you learn the basics; don't die, it's more important to lvl via minions and flags then to kill DG's, don't die; you're pretty close to everyone else minus build and item knowlegde.

unfortunatilly, this is the internet :(

..and pretty much the reason I stopped playing this online after less than a week

Well maxxy most of the time i have a 4-6 sim speed but there are times when it dips. If lower resolution helps i'll give it a whirl but most people just b**** and moan and try to tell me to go buy a new computer like money magically shoots out my mouth like some sort of enchanted pez despenser 8| and offer no advice except F* you and other such nonsense.

I find that much more disgraceful than someone who wants to play a game they bought and paid for. If you are one of those kinds of guys well i would gladly accept your money and buy a new comp.

-Pod-,

You can either accept that games have requirements or you can whine and annoy other players. You can get a job, work for 1-2 weeks and upgrade whatever you want in your PC. This is the reality of things. In this case, you are lucky enough to have a simple solution. If people (like in South Africa) can't play with the majority of players and no one wants to accept them into games because they have 400ms+ ping then what should they do? Relocate to a place with a better ping? Same goes for low upstream players who want to play in 4v4. You are crippling other people with your selfish behavior. Regardless of whether they are douches or not.

Nuff said. I won't derail this thread anymore. Ta ta.

When I first started playing a week or 2 ago, I had nothing but friendly & helpful teammates when I literally was a noob.  One time my teammate gave advice "buy a teleport scroll & telefrag them at a flag" & I was like "you mean telefrag like in Quake??!!" (I was real excited about this possibility).  He just laughed & kept explaining basic shit patiently.

Maxxy, i do meet the min requirements, like i said my sim speed is solid for the most part but lags on occasion. Is it selfish to play a game i paid for, that im supposed to make min requirements for? If that makes me a selfish douche as you seemed so eloquent to point out, what does that make you? I am just sick and tired of the fact that all these dumbass kids get on thier game and think everyone else lives with mom and can spend all thier money frivilously. I got bills, rent, tuition, insurance, and food very low on that list is new video card.

Thanks for the positive comments folks.

I can pretty much trash the AI on nightmare, but online games are so NOT like the AI.  Real people can think and they don't make all the stupid and predictable mistakes the AI makes.  I usually play a few offline games when I'm trying to remember a build path and itemization for a character.  Part of my problem might be that my favorite DG is the Torchbearer and he is really squishy.

I just need good old fashion experience in the trenches and unfortunately I haven't gotten into many games with decent folks willing to teach me.  I quickly learned though that if you don't communicate and work as a team you might as well just sit at the crystal and wait for your citadel to crumble.  I just wish more people would give me quick hints about where I should be and what I should be focusing on to help them out.  Instead most of them remain silent until I make a mistake and then just hammer me with insults.  I'm sure I'll get it eventually... I just wish it wasn't so painful.

I'll just start making my first purchase a flame resistant suit..  thanks for that advice.. :)

Friend me up Az and I'd be happy to play along with ya and show ya some ropes.  Sorry you got put in with the l337 tards, but most of us are here to play for a good time.  Send me a PM sometime, we'll see what we can do :)

Unless I'm on vent its very hard for me to guide poeple around, so I wouldn't expect tons of direction. Most of the time in pro games you can react to your teammates movement and adjust your strategy accordingly.

Also there are lots of noob only games which no one should complain if you mess up. On the reverse, if you join a pro only you deserve to be flamed.

Finally the best way to compensate for inexperience might be to buy the creep upgrades at the citadel with a good deal of your money. Its extremely useful to the team (think giants = win) ^^.

Another important thing about communication with your team is to state your following moves. I generally don't lead much but I always say things like "returning to base", "buying priests upgrade", "going for right top flag" etc. This is especially important in a large brawl where you need pull back. Say this so that your teammates doesn't think you got their back while you are shopping for the next cool helmet at base :(O
