To the guy who was an ___hole to me

To the guy who was an ___hole to me

people like you ruin the community.

Yeah, I had a bad game. Yeah, I sucked in the first few minutes. Yeah, I fed the other team. Yeah, I realized how shitty I was doing and voted to concede (one of my other teammates was also sucking).

You happened to join the next game with me and ooooo you had to run your mouth about how I suck and it's an automatic loss and I'm a leaver. At this point it's basically a witch hunt, and there is no way to defend myself, so the host boots me.

At this point I'm in a bad mood, and don't feel like playing anymore.

I had a long day. I was working hard all day. I was tired and hoping to have some fun and unwind with a game of Demigod before bed.

Then it was all "you suck" and "f_cking n00b teammate".

I should have known better than to expect to have fun while playing Demigod. Don't get me wrong, I like the game. It's just that many people who play have some messed up priorities about what is important in life.

Everyone needs to realize that Demigod just a game. People like the one I just mentioned (I won't name names) ruin it for the rest of the community. So you lose ... boo hoo. Now your stats have one more loss. Your whole life is ruined. How about you don't get all bent out of shape when you lose, suck it up and display some sportsmanship.

Ranting aside, tt's really disappointing that the members of the community for Demigod are devolving into the same sort of elitist assholes that populated DoTA (one of the reasons I quit playing that game and never looked back).

Lastly, this is not a one time incident (aside from the people involved and the person it was directed at). I see it all the time. People play the game like their teammates are a necessary evil, and when one teammate is not doing so hot, I see much flaming directed at that player, like "f_ck you. play better."

Anyways, I feel better with that off my chest. I'm curious what other people think. Has anyone experienced this?

i just hate retarded noobs like you who has no skill at all and no brain they fuck up all game. i usely say to noobs who such a lot when you can defeat 4 hard Al(4vs1) then you can go try play in internet mayby you wont die in first minute

You don't know me at all. You hate me, you say? Based on a few lines of one post? You are the type of person with screwed up priorities that I'm talking about.

In fact, I know how to play the game, and I'm usually decent at it. I've been playing for almost two months, and I have more wins than losses on my record.

My point is that I had a bad game and someone was an asshole to me. Luckily I have pretty tough skin, but other people don't, and some new players will be turned off by the game.

It's what u have to put up with when you play online.

Always look on the bright side of life... la la lalllllaaaaaaaa

Some things in life are bad,
They can really make you mad,
Other things just make you swear and curse,
When you're chewing life's gristle,
Don't grumble,
Give a whistle
And this'll help things turn out for the best.
And...

Always look on the bright side of life.

Always look on the light side of life.

I have a question about games listed as "noobs only" type games.  I'm an experienced player, and often I want to join one of those games to help noobs if is can; even if it's just me and 3 AIs vs 4 noobs, I'd do it to help.  But do noobs "want" people like me in their games, or do they just want "All Noobs" only?

I'm sure they'd love the help but not to play against you. In either case, why don't you just ask when you get into the game lobby.

The fact that you did that is awesome, we need more people like you willing to help the new players out. Direct them to the forums and stuff if the don't want you playing, that's always a big help.

Today i had the same issue discussed here.

It was a good game but i didn't do so well, and we lost. One of my teammates called me noob, several times.

When i joined another game, he was on the other team, and said victory was easy thanks to me being on the other team.

The battle bagun, pure silence, and out of nowhere, one of his teamamtes said "**** you! shut up i cant play with an a-hole like u!" and he leave. I was amazed, he wanted to win SO badly, and he lost his 2 teammates, the rest is history.

People need to stop stroking their ePeen and just play the game. amirite?

Isn't there a squelch feature in demigod? I'm sure games would go better if you didn't have hear ___holes in the first place.

I doubt new players object to people of higher skill joining and actually trying to help them get better.  What they do object to is people entering a match clearly labeled as "Newbies" or "New Players Only" and then proceeding to complain about their lack of skill.

You can take the Nightmare AI to the cleaners and very little of that translates to the online game.  If more people spent time helping newer players to get better and overcome simple ignorance of the online differences we'd all have a better talent pool to compete against.

I find it funny that I keep seeing these threads. I have played many online games and "noobs" get called out in every single game at one point or another. It really has nothing to do with the "demigod community", this is just how online games work so you should learn to ignore it and not take it to heart.  RTS(real time strategy) games might bring out even more hate due to the fact that every second counts and you don't really have time to be explainining the basics. Hell, I tried playing call of duty on xbox live the other day for the first time and some 10 year old kid called me a faggy noob on the mic. If this really gets on your nerves that much it might not be the type of game for you.

Just shut up. you know, nobody cares. I lost so many games because of fucked up mates. And I never whined.

Hey hoog, sorry you had someone on a personal crusade against you. Thats really uneccessary and that guy is probably just has some competitive nerd rage so i would just ignore it. If you want to learn the game some more i suggest checking out this:

http://forums.demigodthegame.com/349958

thread. Just reading one build will help you mightily it did me. Then you just have to figure out what types of items you want to go with it.

Look i've played some bad apples like that but i've also played with some really good guy and gals who just wanted to have fun.

Good luck, sorry some people have thier heads right up thier elitist ass.

Well, there are so many examples for and against this statement here are two:

Going through boot camp hurts, and makes you stronger (if you survive).

Exposing yourself to large doses of radiation hurts, and makes you weaker.

But when we're talking about a game that is supposed to be fun, why should it have to hurt? No one is required to play. If you want to baseball with someone (who isn't very good), for example, but all you do is tell them they suck, then pretty soon they won't want to play anymore.

im guessing you are the second example, meaning online games arent for you.

besides there is always single player for your enjoyment ;).

This. I've been wanting a squelch/mute option since I started playing months ago, and have repeatedly asked about it.

The instant games become full of DotA assholes calling you names , i'm out, and i'll probably never bother giving stardock any more $$ since they couldnt be bothered to put a simple mute feature in. These forums are already becoming nearly intolerable as it is.

People who put too much priority, or who's egos are too dependant on their ability to game, are the downfall of a lot of gaming communities. I worry about the emphasis the "pros" are putting on the game right now, before it's even full flushed out as a game.

My friends and I have quit several games because of a community that fosters idiocy without any competitive component despite the awesome potential of them (Lunia?). The most successful games in today's era are competitive ones, where that compettive community is alowed to flourish.

It's your idiotic and illogical choice to play with random people who annoy you. Epic fail, good riddance.

People have different reasons for playing demigod, an overly zealous competitive community with hard line attitudes is no help. Competition has some limited value,  but keeping things in perspective is important, how much is demigod worth in real life, and how much are your condemnations worth in real life may be worth considering. I'm not surprised at your comment about the most sucessful games being very competitve, people put too much weight in being good at video games right now, they have a hip status they don't always deserve, people are sucked in, particularly young people. Too often those attitudes stick.

ive played tons of games almost since demigod was released and i havent run into this behavior as much as people claim. i  dont believe you have as tough skin like you say or you exaggerate like a mother hubbard.

people are competitive theres nothing wrong with that. we are passionate creatures created by god or some explosion involving hydrogen stew or lima beans or whatever. so if they get their competitive fix with demigod that their business. they too hop on demigod hoping to have some fun and your noob self that dies 3 times, feeds the other team and laughs it off like its nothing is ruining it for THEM.

some go overboard yes but to think that because you suck you some how deserve unlimited patience from everyone is insane. im not defending their behavior however i am defending them not wanting to play with mother wolf feeding the other team by the breast totally destroying any chances they had at a good competitive match.

if you disagree then please play with friends or players at your skill level so noone has their fun ruined.

Doesnt really serve much of a purpose to slander someone doing badly, unless the finaly rage quit. in which case the person was probably a selfish asshole and deserves a couple "friggin noob". One thing that really pisses me off (although I hardly take it out on others) is when im really looking after my teams best interests and some random guy just wanders of and keeps on screwing things up. Either due to a short attention span or just plain clueless, who knows. But its ever so frustrating... and then they rage quit and leave the rest of the team sitting there with an even worse AI.

Otherwise when I see someone on my team doing badly I usually point out constructive critisms. You know basic stuff like, dont chase someone into towers (theres usually another Demigod waiting there and then your toast). Killing someone is okay, but dying is far worse. You need to prioritze. If you kill someone, yey you got gold and xp! But if you die, then screwed your whole team over a bit. If you notice your dying more than actually killing, then your obviously doing something wrong. Hang around one of the better players and learn a few tricks.

Are you talking to me zxzxza? You're pretty far off the mark, and the derrogatory crap I'm just going to ignore, it's not that I'm a bad player, it's that there are more people in the community than the "pros" who seem to want to usurp all dialog on the game and back up their arguments largely with something akin to "You don't get it". Assigning themselves the soothsayer status in the community is poor to say the least, when mostly their method of trying to win their arguments consists of browbeating people with "yuir a nub", or claiming the point is complex or too esoteric, or that it would reveal too much of their method. They post poorly rationalized arguments based on their own needs/wants and an introverted dialog and dismiss naysayers. It's pissing me off. So KNOCK IT OFF. (not particularly directed at you)

nerf the term "scrubs" as well, it's simply derrogatory crap that noone needs.

Its the group of people that plays the game casually but takes it seriously enough to consistantly whine about balance problems despite their having no experience of playing at a high level and therefore basing their claims on half-truths. They deserve to be derided because they're a pain in the ass.

I don't know how you'd go about nerfing a term anyway.

In-game functions like that would need to be done by GPG. And if someone is being an ass on the forums (and not just disagreeing about something, but actually insulting), please exercise the report function.

How about just nixing the term. And claiming that your pro community knows the "truth" about demigod seems pretty far fetched. For people who've been playing for three months, you seem to feel like you've got it all on the ball, When I, at least, don't even feel like the game is finished. Besides which, people want a game that is balanced, if they're playing a game with one outcome, they're not going to feel like it's much of a game. Not everyone is a pro, nor does everyone necessarily want to be, and they shouldn't have to be to play a balanced game. The "pros" are not the entirety of the community.

Has there even been a pro competition yet? I know there's an ESL league, but has there even been a contest?

The idea that a game isn't balanced for a new player as opposed to a competitive player has no foundation for an arguement whatsoever. All that comes down to is who is the better player. I'm not really sure anyone has made a decent arguement in the history of these forums to the opposite. Restrictions on your skill may "seem" like an imbalance, but, it is infact not.

As far as competition goes, i'm not sure why stardock has not done so already. If they want somone to organize somthing, I would be more than willing, or could even suggest others that would be.

Well, that sort of nullifies people's claims to be pros. Unpaid, and overzealous doesn't equal a professional.

The idea that the game isn't balanced for some does have foundation. There have been plenty of thoughtful threads to that very idea, you just dismiss it because the smaller community you've taken up with has rationalized the contrary, and it doesn't serve your purposes, so the work isn't something you feel like needs to be done. I don't believe it's simply who's the better player, not yet, just looking at the vague stats in games I've played shows me something to the contrary, that's colloquial evidence, but we don't have particularly good data to look at anyway. The stats for pantheon lack a lot of particulars that would help.

And so, if you indeed have proof that the game is balanced, for all players at any level...I want to see it. Provide it and put the issue to bed if you've got that proof.
