A Replay Worth Talking About

My friend Sarmis and I are going to start commentating matches!  But to do this, we need a game to talk about!

We want the replay file for your game that:

1) Replays properly to the end of the match. (Some replays glitch for various reasons, please check it beforehand)

2) Is an all-pro matchup.

3) Is tightly contested.

4) Has no profanity (text chat, user names, etc).

5) Ends in a reasonable amount of time (30 minutes).  We can do longer matches later, once we get the proof-of-concept done.

I also would like a replay that isn't posted on the game replay forums - I love that site, but the more material we can get out on Demigod the better.

Hey, I think I played with you before, and Sarmis!

Commentating sounds cool, it'd be hard to do without a replay engine at the moment and also it not being your own game though ;P

Please do not complete these commentaries like Blizzard's Starcraft II Battle Reports. Those things are horrible and need to stop. Having said that, I think it's an interesting idea and could provide a little more insight into the game if you upload them on streaming sites like, for example, YouTube.

Are there replays who won't glitch out? I haven't watched any yet at least...

Also, make sure the loosing part is ok with it before sending in for commentating if you want to play with them again :)

Awwwww.... It would be so cool to hear "terrible terrible............. ad infinitum...... damage" and "he escaped with only 5HP, what a great move by the UB player"

I love does commentaries. :D

Yep those things are great. I thought of the DoW2 ones immediately when I saw the topic.

Good to see you Elixer!  Sarmis decided to have a social life yesterday, so I thought I'd give this pet project of ours a push instead of losing again at 6 AM. :P

I really like the Starcraft 2 Battle Reports, but with Demigod we will have much more interesting things to discuss then how it was a "Great move by the protoss player!  He's blocking that hatchery with his probe" and will be focusing on the eb and flow of the game.  The real thing we're going for is to capture the excitement of Demigod, and get some solid videos to generate some excitement on the web.

The game does have a replay engine built in  - it saves the last match in yout DG folder - but its hit or miss whether they crash.  If we can't find one, the next patch is supposed to support the feature.  As for video/sound capturing, I've got that worked out.  If we can't find a decent working replay, we'll talk about one of our own matches on-the-fly.

We really want to do someone else's game so we can speculate what people are thinking and capture the excitement of a live match.  Commentating one of our own matches after-the-fact would be dull.

Eh... I have countless games unrendered. Your challenge here is where youre going to publish this stuff, youtube sucks because a decent game will be split 4+ times. Your next challenge is finding decent games... It's hard enough to get the pros together for a decent game, yet alone a working replay of one that isn't a total steamrolling.

We will probably start with posting a split version on youtube while we search for a better option.  I do have web hosting, but that depends on how popular it is.
