Please un-ban Shadow

Please un-ban Shadow

Recently, _Shadow was banned. He is one of the most committed players in Demigod, and he helps beginners quite a bit. He does not troll. He is snarky at times, but to ban him without a warning is bad forum policy. I'm a moderator of another gaming community, and our policy is warn-kick-ban. He is one of the most dedicated players in demigod, and we need more people that play the game as much as he does.

I don't know who to ask about this, so I'm posting it publicly.

The employees who developed and maintained GPGnet have left GPG some time ago as far as I know.
End of quote

Yes, this is among the reasons that GPGnet was never even an option, as Brad has explained a number of times.

If it's a temp ban then it's fine and I don't feel bad for shadow. I think people need to realize Frogboy doesn't take the thick-skinned approach to these boards that say ghostcrawler does on the wow boards.  He doesn't like when people use a hostile tone and you need take it down a notch when speaking to him.

If it's perma it's way overboard and I think that kind of draconic punishment is bad for the discussions and atmosphere here.  Some players get excited because they genuinely care about the game, not because they're trying to troll.

Agreed

He probably didnt deserve it, but he was being stupid enough that I'm not surprised.

I'm a pretty disagreeable sort, but I know that you have to turn down the rudeness when confronting somebody who can ban you.  Especially somebody who has shown that they dont take kindly to that sort of stuff.  You can be disagreeable without being rude.  Shadow was being both.  Rudeness really shouldnt be a reason for a ban, but if you are rude to the CEO of a company whose forums you are posting on...well, you shouldnt be too surprised if you get the ban.

I do not like _Shadow, but I think it was childish to ban him in that situation.

No real commentary on the validity for or against the moderator's decisions except that except his loss is a loss to the community as a whole.

Signed.

I've been unbanned. The issue is settled.

Thank you all for the support. I will try to contribute more in the future.

P.S. pacov, you silly bones, I was not referring to the entire community as asshats, just the people who play for one day and then cuss out Stardock in the forums. You win the award for misinterpreting me more times than any other person :)

Even the mighty Frogboy must indeed yield to the community carebear stare.

It didn't quite happen that way but definitely LOL.

Well, I think some people have been baned, but we just have not noticed, because they are not so "well known".  I'm guessing, from some of the MIAs I've noticed, that FB and staff may ban people that talk just as bad to us "normal" people, as have to him.  The frog doth wear a cape and cowl . . . . :frogboy: :ninja:

Someone help one of the 1900+, ala me.

Is GPGnet like Gamespy?  Battle Realms used that system after the first major patch and it sucked.

I agree with Frogboy here.  If you hadn't played this kind of game or system before, the life of the game depends on the 1900+.  Not the 100.  What happened to being generally respectful?

The two things that pulled Battle Realms into quicksand (never to return), was the constant exploiting/bickering, and lack of Publisher support in later stages.  After Winter of the Wolf released, and there was no measurable ROI, and lack of a subscription renewal model....well it was over in 18 months.

Frogboy, if anything can be learned from that, stay with the 1900+ focus and make the shagnes beneficial to the whole community, not a the self-enfranchised few.

EDIT:  Yes, I am new to the game, and yes I am not skilled at it for now.  But I am eating my shredded wheat (frosted), and working out every day to improve my stats.  Thanks.

Should watch what he says then shouldn't he. If I walked into someones house and started flapping my lips about his choice of furniture - being rude about it etc - he has every right to tell me to get lost.

But he paid to go into the house.

Good to have you back, Shadow. Now don't do it again, because we can't all afford bail money :P

He didn't pay to mouth off like a trumpet.

In any case, his ban is over, so it doesn't matter anymore.

Just because you pay to get into a club, doesn't mean you can't get thrown out for being a turd.

the funny thing is that frogboy has often a very hostile tone himself. i saw him calling others as idiots before anybody talked to him ni that manner. it seems he gets very fast upset being confronted with critzm.

Truth is Frogboy is a successful boss, Bosses might appear to be "nice guys" but by their very nature they require a viscious temper to quickly stamp down their underlings, its simply how business works. Nice guy bosses get exploited by their workforce who quickly become unproductive.

This is a stardock owned forum. Its his world, he owns it, an extension of his office...and that boss-like nature no doubt spills over on occasion (namely the "Question me minion?! Ban-hammer attack!" bit).

Plus have you SEEN the size of the coffee cups in his video's?! Guy is probably so high on caffeine he could smite down a dozen PCP fiends with ease. :)

Hehe, looks like the successful banning of SleepyForest prompted a banning spree. :P

I got banned too for my Homer Simpson prank. Had to go up to Frogboy to get back in. The rest of the forum team didn't give a f*** and just started to threaten me to permanently ban me from everywhere.

Glad you had it easy to correct your status.

That was a bannable post?  Jeez, that's lame.  I've been a moderator on other forums for years and you need a really defensive admin to ban for something like that.  There was no cursing, racism, trolling or anything.  If sarcasm and snarkiness is a bannable offense, you might as well ban the whole internet.

Correction: nobody knew who had done it (it turned out to have been T-Man, IIRC), and your own attitude and your having circumvented it didn't help your situation.

In any case, as Shadow spoke to Brad and got his posting priveleges restored, this thread is done.

Shadow got his posting priivledges back before (I think) this thread was even created. He emailed me, we talked and it was settled quickly.

Incidentally, he wasn't banned. His posting/commenting was restricted (i.e. access group visitor). It's akin to IRC being silenced for N minutes as a means of getting someone's attention.
