Massive ping spikes.

I've always been a happy customer, never had a problem. My upload speed was fine, my computer rocking, and no wierd graphic bugs. But one day my bliss was suddenly interrupted by a extreme ping spikes.

Sunday I had no problems at all. But yesterday, all my games suddenly became unplayable. Suffice to say, I made some people very angry.=(

In the lobby its fine, but in game it gets really bad generally stuttering the game, with pingspikes over 3000. Now this sounds llike the zero configutaion Windons thingie, but I already disabled it. Also, when i alttab and click my connection it suddenly says I have 1 mbps, while normally I have 54. Now I did some speedtests, and my upload speed sometimes suddenly drops, and whats more my download speed is bottlenecked too(1 mbps) but only when my upload stream is "stressed", otherwise I can just download normally. So, I sometimes have 1 mbps upload but otherwise I have 0.19 mbps, and my connection screen says my download speed just dropped to 1 mbps.

Torrents are superslow.

The strange part here is that I never had problems before, yes I could play 5vs5 smooth.

I have a wireless Belkin N1 connection.

Call your ISP, and yell at them.

But I never had this before? Did they just killed my connection or something?

They definitely changed something. I had this too once in Supreme Commander. All of a sudden I couldn't play 4v4 anymore. After a month everything was back to normal agan (without a change from Supreme Commander).

Maybe they decided to throttle p2p traffic on your node due to high traffic.

But it could also be some software interefence or your router is acting up. But I am guessing you didn't add or change anything in that area?

The bold part would be my thoughts. Though it may be a router issue. I don't use a router so I don't know :(

Thanks Spooky.

So I guess I just have to wait for a month? Thats unbearable! I want to play Demigod now, argh.

Calling my ISP, will this change anything?

P.S. No I didn't change a thing..

Also if you're using vista, it might be that, sometimes vista just likes to well..do random shit to networks.

Just tell them theres a random error with your connection slowing to a snails pace every now and then. Ask them to check for any problems, probably best to do it during the problem periods.

They'll probably be worhtless but its worth a shot.

Wait, I just reread your initial post. You seem to be on WLAN? This seems to be your issue. For some reason your WLAN connection drops down from 54 to 1 mbps and the upload is affected in a similar way.

No Vista.

The ISP issue seem the most likeliest because i played almost a hundred games without a problem. My WLAN was fine.

@Spooky, I think its the other way around, my upload speed bottlenecks and suddenly my download is scrwed too.

Well anyway, but your WLAN seems to be definitely the cause. If your WLAN connection info suddenly drops from 54 mbps to 1 mbps, like you described, something is definitely wrong. There could be outside or inside interference. You can try to change the channel of the WLAN on your router/access point. You could also go on LAN just to definitely test if this is the cause for all your problems.

One point:

It only drop to 1 mbps when the uploadstream is stressed, ie: when im uploading stuff(speedtest) or playing DG. Otherwise I have no problems.

How do I do these WLANiethings:?, im not that experciened with networking.

Yeah, but your ISP or Demigod is definitely not responsible for that. Now we just have to figure out why it happens.

Uhm, well, what type of router do you have? Also, can you try hooking your computer up to the router with a LAN cable first (and deactivating the WLAN adapter on your computer)?

Update: my laptop(which is on the same router) works fine(atleast on the speedtest), so it is my computer... a virus may b farfetched, but who knows/

Belkin N1, don't know exactly which type, will check. I cant connect with a LAN cable though, dont have one and its too far away.

Nah, don't think it's a virus. Maybe simply try to uninstall and reinstall the WLAN adapter of your computer.

Dint thought so either. Reinstalling it is then.

Hi, I had the same problem with Supreme Commander 2 years ago.

I had to take fix channel for my WLAN, because to autochannel function often used the high channels (10-13) and on these channels I got massive ping siking. Setting the WLAN on a fix channel (7 for me) solved the problem.

Do u have a neighbour which is using the same WLAN channel as u, could also be the reason, or a base station of a cordless phone near the router?

I got the same problem since friday. I started playing demigod in beta 1a and never had a ping problem before.

I had the same spikes and problem with speedtest (downloadspeed went down from 16Mbit to 0,14 Mbit), with both of my PCs.

After reseting modem and WLAN router and reinstalling WLAN card in PC, I tried it with a (very long) LAN cable to my router and I had no spikes and full downlod speed.

For me it was the WLAN of my router (dlink DIR-635), I bought a new one and new everything works fine (only tried 1 game yesterday)

Yeah, I would advise him to try to change the channel too.

Great advice, the cordless base station is actually right on top of my router!

Fail, I have xp, and ping has NOTHING to do with it, but thanks anyway.

How do you change channel? It doesnt come up on the configuration program.

The good news is its nothing to do with your connection Katana.

The bad news is...its the game, so you're fubared like others amongst us.
