What Demigod Needs to be Even Better

in competitive gameplay

Yeah, it's a presumptious title. ;) Demigod is a great game, and trying out other MOBA (this genre) games has reinforced how great the gameplay really is. What Demigod lacks is that "competitive" element. Demigod is competitive on a casual level... but it could be a whole lot more.

Voice Chat: I think it was said that Impulse would eventually support this, but quality voice chat would [almost] elimate the complaints about premades.

Premades: I think that premades make the game better. Demigod really needs some sort of team join support... but it wouldn't make a whole lot of sense to make a Skirmish/Pantheon for teams. Basically, I should be able to form a group with a buddy or two and then put my team into the Queue for a match. I can understand this feature not quite working for Pantheon due to the whole Light v Dark thing and the potential of friends being on the opposing side.

Now, before people start shouting "premades are unfair" and the like, I must point out that random teams isn't quite fair either. Of course, the game should favor pitting premades against one another.

Okay, so I really just basically just reiterated what people have been saying already... ;) I love Demigod, but I'd love to see it as a serious "competitive" game.

EDIT: (July 26, 2009)

Okay I've been trying out some other games and so I think that Demigod needs a few more things:

Server-side Hosting: Latency ruins competitive gaming. Sadly, latency in Demgiod makes life worse for everyone. The problem is that Server-side hosting costs money, so I don't see it as beign high on the list of priorities for development.

Leavers: There's no way to reconnect to a game that you had left/disconnected from. The other issue with leavers is the fact that an AI takes over for them. If someone leaves they should be commanded back to the crystal, and then made AFK (or removed) so that they don't feed the opponent.

Really? I don't. I would just like to be able to join a game without being on a team with a bunch of players that have NO IDEA how to play the game. That would make the game better, not having to endure 15 minutes of feeding only to be stomped by superiour HP.

The other 'problems' with this game are endurable. However players lack of skill when entering a fight is just pathetic. They see 2 DG and walk right in the middle of them and type "kill me now please, I have no idea how broken BotF is so I use goggles instead. I enjoy the sound the death screen makes so please, just spank me into the ground so I can not actually play for 30 seconds."

Fix the game so I don't have to play with or against players of such low quality play style, and many of the problems with this game would go away.

I would like to be able to join a game :) Seems no more players in Europe play this game. I'm moving on to greener pastures. CBA to wait 10-15mins to start a game that will eventually crash/disconnect/ragequit.

I see plenty of games.. Just dont forget people have jobs and lives next to the gaming. And im pretty sure the whole premade issue has driven some people to wait out a patch to fix all that

I play in Europe, have been since internet release over Easter weekend. Might have been a bit slow to get games going for us a while back, but for the last month at least I've been able to just jump into any lobby and play within 2 or 3 minutes.... So don't know why you're having so many issues with that.

As for the OP, good ideas - I've seen a fair few posts on the forums giving details for vent servers available for 'public' use, these could help a long way I think.

Across the US there is a 1 - 2 hour block of time Monday - Th and a 1 - 3 hour block on the weekends whene people are playing. The other 21/23 hours of the day nobody is online. You may get 1 host that has been waiting for 30 minutes and slowly people come online and join the game. Player skill ruins this experience even more so because your just happy to have a full lobby, even though there may be 1 pro, 2 total noobs and everything in between. The play experience just sours over time the more and more you 'Try to play the game' but fail horribly.

Note: I've added this stuff to my main post.

I think the plan to stop AI from feeding so much will be implemented in the upcoming patch including some other stuff.

It'll be good for custom games, but I wonder if it will affect leaver AI and whether or not it will be in effect for Skirmish/Pantheon.
