What prevents save scumming?

Probably been asked before but what prevents a player from saving and reloading when they mess up? Im new to the metaverse so sorry if there is some obvious answer :P

edit: also what prevents turning down the cpu usage for ai's?

Nothing. It's a single player game.

Im fairly sure you know what im getting at...

The single player game is a single player game... the metaverse is inderect multiplayer

If the metaverse is a way to COMPARE SCORES and is more or less a ladder system then what prevents any kind of "cheating" besides only being able to use specific datafiles...?

If the only way to even be semi-high on the ladder is by save scumming (due to others doing it) then whats the point

To get the high scores, it's more to do with map set up than save scumming. Conquering the map in year 0, early year 1, and score grinding for 3 or 4 years. The players scoring over 1 million points have a pretty tried and true strategy.

If you turn the Mega Events off, there is not much reason to "scum" other than attempting to preserve an econ boom. I've scored 700k+ with Random Events shut off as well, so it is very possible to climb the ladder using the cards that the game deals you.

The real secret to scoring lies in generating a monster military score. Once you get some experience, you won't make any mistakes, and will not have need to reload unless you really want to. That being said, it is still wise to set the Autosave to 3 turns due to some bugs in the game that cause lockups and crashes.

Save scumming.  Interesting term.  I trust it is not pejorative.

Allow me to digress.  Assume gaming is like sex.  At times hot and quick is best.  Other times, slow and deliberate is totally satisfying.

The point is...strategic, not tactical thinking scores MV points.  Saving at times is beneficial but not determinate.

Cheating is an accusation.  Again, I trust that is not what you intended.

actually it is.

your cheating. but be my guest and try to defend your exploiting with the "elevated"  use of language (which is just pretentous bullshit that im sure youd be glad to call "normal usage" as to sound even more elevated...sorry im denying you that arousal)

your just a cheating moron. your badges mean NOTHING (im sure your going to try to dispute this.. go ahead im not following up)

Sad that the metaverse is obviously worthless due to the fact that high standings can only be achieved through exploitation.

*sigh* i guess the one positive thing about this is that i dont have to fear a forum ban as there is no more need to participate :)

Apparently, you lack a functional understanding of this game. Exploitation, backstabbing, trickery, and betrayal are the fundamental components of GC2.  The game is intentionally designed to crush you like a bug if you play "fair". The AI is not going to play "fair". The scoring system does not reward you for playing "fair". It rewards you for applying your base instincts in diabolical and ruthless manners. In short, being an asshole to the AI is the whole point of GC2.

My motto: "Skrewwww co-op existence" (best spake in a slightly inebriated dwarven accent).

"Exploitation" is a Righteous and Noble cause We are ruthless predators, and the AI is our prey! The galaxy is ours by Right, and all others are trespassers who must be evicted with extreme prejudice!!!!

More to the point, the only place I've *ever* heard the term 'save scumming' used before is Nethack.

Now - if you want to apply for an 'Iron-man' option, that's a valid request, but unless someone has that toggled on and then cheats around it, it's not 'cheating' in any way explicit or implicit.

This ain't Nethack (to be fair, most game ain't) - get over it.

IMO on gigantic maps the loading process takes long enough that you would never want to reload unless there was a crash.  Of course I need a new computer, but it's still a valid enough reason to play like an iron man.

Well, on a related topic:

A little red skull and crossbones icon appears to the left of the game on your character's page.

Arrrr matey! I want a Jolly Rogers, too!

Alas, I apparently fail at this "cheating and getting caught" thing because I haven't succeeded, yet. And I'm not good enough to win by turn 12 which would automatically award me the cheater flag.

Looks like I'll have to find a mod that changes enough things around for the Metaverse to finally get the idea. =/

So far I only did manage to make a game invalid for upload but no upload means no Jolly Rogers. So FAIL.
