Well, it could move you out of range of your opponents attack, (Bite, pounce come to mind).  It could push them INTO range of an attack, perhaps for an ally like a Rook who is slow and cant catch them otherwise.

knockback already exists and a few DG's have it(though can't think of an example skill now...mines?) the only thing i can see it does is send minions flying, but they are already dead at that point so it seems a little useless. (?)

Knockback is not just a graphic.  The best way to explain it is to give an example. TorchBearers Fire Nova 1 deals 400 damage, but it knocks back all archers and priests within range of the skill.  The priests have more than 400 hp but the skill still kills them due to knockback.

One of the coolest things to do as torchbearer is to go to where 2 creep waves converge and kill all the preists and archers in one shot with a level 5 skill.

the creeps instantly die when you knockback as they take immense damage when they hit the floor. its basically a 1 hit kill on creeps. useful for clearing out low level creep waves very fast (does not work on cats + giants though).

Hmm could've sworn I saw some creeps survive this, but maybe they were just buffed really high.

By the way, the Rook gets knockback ("cleave") when his autoattack does more than 250 damage.

True, however the animation is a bit slow IMO. It almost looks like a The Matrix scene..
