I am using a 46" LCD as a monitor what is the best resolution to run the game at?

it would depend on the capability of the screen. there should be a native resolution that the screen supports. look for that and set your video adapter to that res.

Probably (1080p) 1920 x 1080 is the "best" resolution since this is probably the native resolution of your panel.

However, I run a 44" panel as well that is 1080p but I run demigod at the next lowest widescreen format just to make selecting items on screen a lot easier. I play FPS games at full res but found that to be a bit cumbersome with demigod.
