Here's an Idea

Online matchmaking for an online only game

Ladder that tracks stats properly

Ability to play vs random teams where you can't pick and choose your teammates / enemies. Blizzard calls this RT

Ranked arranged team ladder. Where pre's play other pre's. Blizzard calls this AT.

EDIT:

What's ironic is how much I get mocked for the above post, yet the above post IS A FUCKING AMAZING IDEA. Who cares about your new idea for a dg that shoots rockets out of it's penis for +4 mana a second. GIVE US ONLINE PLAY!!!!!

If you don't like it, don't play it. This has been covered already numerous times and it isn't necessary to go over it all again just for you.

Wow....yet another "Blizzard is god!!!1" thread.

If only the fanboys knew what battle.net was like back when it launched........

Is it a great tool? Yes, probably the benchmark.

Was it when new? No, not even close......

Relic has this also for Dawn of war 2, and Company of heroes.

I do like the game. so I do play the game. I DON'T like how poorly the multiplayer aspect was implemented. If I didn't like the game itself, would I have bothered registering to post on the forums?

I started with warcraft orcs and humans. My first online blizz title was playing warcraft 2 on kalico or whatever it was called and that service that MS had set up where you could play any game via LAN multiplayer option. Those are exactly what we have now in DG, you make a room, people join, you boot people if you want, game runs laggy as shit, errors, discs etc, and then at the end your score doesn't count because there's no ladder. That was around 14 years ago? Or atleast it feels that long ago. I also had war 2 battle.net edition, starcraft, broodwar and of course war 3 / tft. So yeah I know what battle.net was like when it launched. and it was fucking awesome.

Also played command and conquer red alert 3 when it came out. They had ladder and matchmaking problems, the ladder was reset and patch was applied 2 months in.... enough to kill the game, but they managed to get it done sooner than DG.

Each to their own mate, i certainly would not have called it awesome.

Nevertheless, it is still an unfair comparison, and one that has been beaten to death on the forums.....

It's not "each to their own." Having a ladder system and a matchmaking service is better than having nothing.... always.. in any scenario.. with any variables... all the time. There's no benefit to not having something that having anything (regardless of how good you thought it was) can be.

You're right, it is an unfair comparison. It's unfair to compare a 10 year old game like starcraft to a game that isn't even 6 months old. But when you compare the two, the 10 year old game wins. I do not understand your die hard devotion to a game that is blatantly lacking in areas that other games have exceled in for over a decade.

You have 173 total games. I have 256 total games under my belt. If anything, you would think the guy with more games played would be more of a blind follower regardless of logic, but this is not the case. It is my extra games that I've played that add to my frustration in the lack of services that are provided and are a testement to my love of the game itself, but the flaws are starting to outweigh the fun as I play more games.

It is each to their own over the opinion of battle.net back in the day.....

I'm not asking you too.

Sorry but i just don't see all the flaws that you are on about. I play the game in the spirit of it's intent and that is of the casual gamer.

Is the ladder perfect...no. Is matchmaking perfect...no.

Is it more than enough (on most occasions) for me...yes.

And i have played 448 games...not 173, but i fail to see how the amount of games made mean anything. I have been a Stardock customer long before Demigod was released...

What you keep comparing is two giants of the industy in EA and Blizzard to two small compaines in GPG and SD.

One should not, IMHO, compare the output and productivity of the two. What the giants can do with patches and such is overwhelming compared to what the small guys can do.....

There are may of us that find online play just fine the way it is (some small stat and matchmaking issues aside) and the issues that need addressing are known and on the way.

You want something other than that...by all means....go to EA and Battle.net and have fun.

Plenty of folks do apparently, look at the response's those threads get. Many ideas from those very threads have found there way into the two new DG's coming with 1.2...
