Your ping is too high!!!!!1

The single most frustating thing about playing DG is the ignorance people have with ping.

Under 350 ping is fine!!!!

Those of us in AU/NZ only know too well that this is true, we have to play with ~300 ping alot of the time. Of course, try and join a US West game and see how long you last with a ping of about 250...280 to Central.

Sorry to say, and i know it's not all US players, but most of them cry about a ~300 ping the moment they see it and then boot you.

FFS....i play to US Cent all the time at 283 ping and it is perfect....absolute perfect. I have even played some Panth games with folks in EU at close to 450 ping...or more and it is fine..the odd lagfest allowed.

For all those that love their low ping....listen up..under 350 works fine, if you bothered to allow a game or two to run you would see that.....

I wish there was another system in place of giving the actual ping number...maybe a color code system.

Green light for playable ping....say up to 300.

Orange light for border line ping....to 300 to 400 maybe.

Red light for what will no doubt be laggy...400+

Though there will always be exceptions......

Sigh....end rant.

I'm from Brazil and I was uncertain to buy the game just for this issue, as there seems to be no other south america player but me on Demigod :)

But fortunatelly I have found some very nice people that let me play under 300 ping. I'm not saying that what you said doens´t happen, I've been 'called names' and kicked from rooms just for daring to enter. But in general I find the game very playable. Try to host your own games once in a wile, people always join.

Btw, I think your idea of colors for ping good.

LOL NEILO.

you should really get over it man. people overseas dont give a shit about us aussies, they do not want to play with us.

Oh i do...i just prefer jumping in a game already set....

There are a few learned guys Stacked that understand ping and thus don't mind playing at ~300. I hope...falsly maybe that even a few of the folks ignorant to higher than usual ping might read this and just give a 300ms player a chance one day.

i won't hold my breath though.....

Teboga,

add me as your friend, i'm from brazil too.

Really,

~300 is fine. Last night i played a 4v4 match and it was wonderful. No lag, pretty good. I usually play US matchs.

Hi Darktronik, I'm glad to hear there´s more people from Brazil. Lets play some matches tonight.

Cheers.

I think it isn't a matter of knowledge of that "<350 ping is ok" rule of thumb, but more of a matter of being spoilt for choice. US and EU players generally have a very large number of low ping players to play with. If the majority of their games can be setup with <100 pingers, why settle for a >300 pinger and risk that occasionally slightly laggy game?

Even AU has a healthy pool of players to draw from. It's us Asians who have to settle for the mostly >300 pinger games. Games with a little lag are common place for me, but the same amount of lag is intolerable for most of the US guys.

That said, I also like your idea for the ping colour. If anything, it would give a psychological consolation.

Our problem in the US is that if I have a 320 ping to you, and you're in the US as well, our game is going to have issues.  Ping to other countries being slow is fine, but ping within the same region usually means they have very limited upload bandwidth.

That is actually true.

Stacked, i play with an aussie friend all the time.

Anyways there are 3 factors that contribute to lag in this game:

1.  Ping (latency):  If ping is greater than 400 then there may be some issues however if the connection is stable then it will most likely be fine.  This number is represented in the game obviously.

2.  Sim Speed: if seemspeed is less than 1 then that person is lagging the whole game.  For those that have low sim speeds and talk about getting a new videocard, it WONT help.  This game is processor driven so you will need a new processor and/or ram upgrade.  This number is represented in the game but only during gameplay which is unfortunate.

3.  Upload bandwidth:  for 5v5 a 1/2 megabit should be a sufficent isp provided upload bandwidth.  Unfortunately this number isn't represented in the game at all and you won't find out until it's too late that the game is going to lag horribly.

People dont like high ping, if you want to play online with people over in america then get off your island and push it closer imo.

back to OP. yes your right people freakout about 250 ping when under 300 is fine.

Neilo depends whos games you join :D. I play with john. abuggeredhedgie, pod, pacov, and lots of others US players. in 3v3 sometimes we get 1 person who is 400 to me and it still works ok. u just need to be patient and if they wanna kick ask them to try it first. Yeah hosting game is good idea too.

I can do 5v5 with US too with no problems, if it lags it is mostly coz someone got low bandwitch, and they start targetting me as lagger, but my team always say that they play with me all the time with no problems and thats usually shuts them up

Well some people just dont understand how demigod works

See thats my point and your a perfect example of the ignorance. There is nothing wrong with high ping. High being ~300.

I play with a few freinds in the US where i get a 280ms ping to and those games play just as quick and stable as games against Aussies at ~70 ping.

Oh for sure.....you mention learned folks. Its the Pug games you join with randoms (in which many games tens to be, for me at least) who have nfi what they are talking about.

This little rant was due to being kicked 3 times in a row for ping of 280-320.

I'm U.S. east and I play with anybody under 400...really doesn't seem different to me than 100 but whatever.

I get about 340 to US east...and once again it plays fine.

I have also played a few games with Shade and Kal too.....more learned folks,

Actaully, the yanks are scared of a good old fashoned kick up the arse from the Aussies.  "Team Americs F*** YEAH!"..... LOL.

Here's what I have experienced - LESS LAGGY GAMES with american than Australian. I join a USwest game and no lag. I join AU game, many times lag.

Telstra is a shithouse provider and have serious UPLOAD issues. This is a BIG problem, as Telstra has a monopoly on most of Australia. If your provider is not telstra, they rent the lines... FROM TELSTRA! So telstra doesn't give a crap about upgrading anything except their insane rip off prices.

It is UPLOAD that is lagging the games. We need upload speed tested and displayed in lobby, and PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE allow hosts to set limits on pings.

Well I just had an awesome game with you Neilo (thanks to Ready to Play recommending you). You had a high ping but the game played fine.

Indeed that was an awesome game. Was in the balance there for a while. As for ping, IIRC i had about 300-320 to everyone and the game played smoothly.

Ready to play sure matched that game well i think....great to see.

For all those interested in seeing the game, here is the link to the replay at gamereplays.org

Please tell me your not just figuring that out. I refuse to have anything to do with Telstra. Optus do have their own lines though now, though IMHO they are not much better than Telstra.

I'm on Netspace and could not be happier. I havea naked connection and use VOIP exclusivly and have great speed, up and down too. Very stable as well, and they use the Optus DSLAMS not the Telstra ones.

I get ok speeds from telstra because I pay through the nose for cable. BUT they seem to restrict my speeds over time as they seem to share the bandwidth with other connections.... So I send a complaint e-mail, and that usually fixes it within 24hrs.

I get 250k-300k upload speeds now, download is fast but irrelevant.

I pay $69.95 for my Naked DSL which gives 55gb a month split into peak and off peak...which suits me ok. My speed, though not cable is pretty good, i expected less when i moved here (Orange) from Newcastle but its pretty good. Down is in the order of 5mb/s and the up around 0.8mb/s which is plenty......

neilo u saved your team in that game. if u asked me u had weird skills and items selection. I would swap Armor of vengence to Namroth ring, that way every shot would heal u (i know it is only 8% but combine it with 12% of mage slayer and chance to get crit from slyers wraps) if u went angelic fury and used stats.

But yeah mate what ever works for you, everyone build is a bit diffrent. I never go mines (risk to miss, risk people wont thru them, medium casting time -  can be interupted) i choose mark of betreyer and miam instead = crazy slow. Medicore game but still quite good.
