To be newb friendly

Recently I see lots of new players around in Demigod. I think the demo and $20 weekend did a great job.

However I don't see many of them twice. New players' stats tend to have very low win percentages, about 30% to 0%. So I assume they get discouraged to play Demigod because they don't get good experience from it.

I think some kind of tutorial replays, and new players being directed to it might be a good solution.

I want to hear opinions on this, and what can be done to make new players stay in Demigod community.

I still think they oughta put an unranked option. Do that and i'll happily play with noobs on my team and teach them the ropes.

There is a tutorial... single player

You play like 8-10 matches... I forget. Each one is a differet game type, but each game type forces you to use different skill sets with your character.

one game type you need to destroy buildings, so you invest in building destroying spells

another is about holding flags, so you learn about locks, and capturing flags

another is about killing enemy dg so you learn about your burst / damage capabilities.

and so on..

The pace of the game is slow and you have time to read each item when shopping and decide if you want to buy it or not.

As far as an "unranked" option, that's what customs games should have been while having ladders and match making for various other game types. It also makes it easier for you or a friend to try a new build or play a game and make your own rules like "stupid items only etc." and mess around without it having to count

The new in-game stats overlay should solve a lot of these problems.  I suspect that it is not simply a problem of new players being awful. It's often a problem of new players wandering into games with experienced players (and premades) and not knowing any better.  With the new in-game stats system, new players should be able to find other new players much more easily and thus have a decent chance of winning games.

That sounds like a good idea. But the only people allowed to teach should be people with like 100 games or more

Unranked would solve a lot of my growing pains.

The thing is, I learn quickly and am a pretty good teammate, but it seems like people's idea of helping out new players is to harass them, bitch and moan and then announce to everyone playing that you're a failure at life because you can't figure out the game's nuances in an hour.

Most of those players who harrass new players harrasses everybody who makes a misstake (except themselves ofcourse). If are a beginner and are able to listen to others and cooperate you should do fine.

Ignore the idiots.

Agreed.

We actually played together today, Esuzu and even though I think you were better than our other teammate and myself you handled it pretty well. So, thanks. :)

I agree with this. There needs to be something else aside from single player to help these noobs out. Playing against the AI wont help out the noobs when they play online. Also I know it can be frustrating sometimes when we get noob players on our teams but lets be more nicer and helpful to the noobs. I've played a couple of games where it was someone elses first day or only had the game for less than a week and the other dude on our team would start flaming on them. That is no way to encourage them to come back and make this community grow.

U know the vent server games pacov put together would be a great way for one experienced player to coach 3+ newbs. what im thinking is that it would be a 4v4 three noobs on each team with one 100+ games player. the experienced player would just sit at the crystal and coach there team through the game.

it wouldnt only help beginners to find a game. i guess premades would benefit from it too as most ppl dont play against them because of a relatively certain loss. they could make a match unranked and thats it, they would get a game going in about 5 minutes!

I like helping new players too, everyone was once a new player.  Sometimes when I play Patheon games, and happen to match up against new players, I might mention a tip here and there.  And if they ask for it, then I'll try to discuss tips with them when the match is still going on.

Actually playing the game you can only learn so much.  Most of the stuff I learn is from reading this forum when kind people share their tips and guides.

The most annoying people are people who throw insults at other team and their own teamates.
