Significant performance loss from AA

Hi,

Recently I've been having very large FPS issues when playing (online and single). Noramlly I could have ~60 fps but now it's ~10 -15 fps. The factor that changes it is AA. I have all settings on high, 1680x1050, and usually 16Q AA.

When I turn AA off the FPS goes back up to 60. When I turn it on, even at only x2 it goes down to 15 FPS. There is no difference in FPS between any AA settings only if it's on and off.

Thanks

Well no kidding. 16x AA will bring anything down, not to mention it is not needed. Do yourself a favor and stick to 4x or 8x (8x if you can somehow spot the difference).

Btw if you are asking about performance issues it always pays to post specs. Imo, playing this with with 4xAA Wide tent, 8x AF, and QAAA @ 1920x1200 with max fps on a Radeon 4890.

Very true; we could offer more help if you provide more detail.  If you don't want to post your specs on the forum, you can email them to [email protected] and we can help you there.

Thanks to whose posted so far.

I'll post my specs but I'd like to emphasize that this is not a hardware issue, I should be able to run this at max fps.

There is no change in performance between any  AA settings (2x decreases my fps exactly as much as Q16x). If it were just a hardware problem my videocard would be able to take 2x and I would see a decrease as I progressively went up.

The actual problem is more mysterious than that.
