New Poll - Gal Civs 2

How about an answer that says:

Yes, I would buy it from Stardock or a store, whichever was cheaper.

I don't care, as long as it gets the fastest it can LOL

Actually, I'm very contented with what I have now, as I was with Civilization II in its time even if Civ3 was coming years later. But I guess Brad doesn't intend to make GalCiv2 next month...

Actually...I'm very excited to see what the next expansion pack offers! I am still learning how to play what I currently have! LOL

Will...with the success of GalCiv, i doubt it if the publishers will alow those who has access to drengin.net to have it for free ;)

Anyway, lets not jump gun yet. Lets wait for the expansion pack and see what kind of improvement has been made ;)

However, i am definitly please to hear that there may be a possible GalCiv 2, but i will reserve my judgement...don't want a repeat of MOO3 ;)

I think the pole is trying to determine if Stardock can self publish Galciv2 rather than going through the normal distribution channels which can be quite challenging.

Well, that would be both parties shooting themselves in the foot deliberately. Besides, you misunderstand Drengin.net if you think you get anything free. You pay a fixed cost per year regardless of what does or doesn't come out. Much like their model for OD, you are largely paying for support as opposed to new products.

Compared to the amount Stardock makes per Drengin/Direct sale versus the amount they make per store sale, they'd be crazy to give up these sales and alienate loyal customers in the process.

Compared to the numbers of Drengin/Direct sales relative to shelf sales, a third party publisher would be crazy to quibble and risk losing publishing rights assuming a GalCiv2 looks to be big seller.

At any rate, much like with GalCiv, I'll only purchase direct because I prefer a model that gives all the money to a dev instead of to a publisher who is largely unecessary by my way of looking at things.

I'd buy if reviews and word of mouth were good. But I'm not worried about that yet. I'm still having too much fun with this one.

Duglis you've got to be crazy... I ddnt konw people still had computers like that. Buy a new one!

I wouldn't want them to limit the graphic capabiliities to satisfy 1% of the market. Remember this will probbaly not happen for 1-2 years and if you still have that computer then - well get a new one!

I will absolutely buy Gal Civ 2. I have absolute faith in Stardock and will get it ASAP.

Hey, Frogboy&Co, if you're reading this, my advice:
If you start to work on galciv2 in one or to or three years, DON'T TELL ANYBODY.
If you do, all your fans will keep asking over and over again "When will it be released? Could you add this feature? Will that be changed? I want this done that way!" and so on and you will have no quite minute left to work. ;)
Start working in secret and just tell us when it's nearly finished!
(You know what people want for galciv2 from this forum anyway.)

And: Take as much time as you need! Or a bit more!

My question would be:

What can you really add to GalCiv II ???
better graphics? which might look sexy, but don't add much to game...
more evolved/involved combat? which would be cool...

or does GalCiv II signal a whole different paradigm within the GalCiv context ????

ImperialGuard: I'd say that the way to do GalCiv II would be to look at the requests that won't work under GalCiv, and see if there's a way to work them in without significantly altering the nature of the game.

Take multiplayer or playing as someone other than the Terrans. It would take a total rewrite of GalCiv to make that work, but they might be able to fit it into GalCiv II.

Or take ship design. I'm not referring to anything as intricate as MoO2/MoO3 ship design, just something that lets the player, during the course of the game, say "I'd like a more expensive frigate that moves faster." or something of that nature.

Possibilities for GalCiv2:

More developed diplomacy model.
More tactical combat model.
More time to improve the basic AI to handle more complex tasks.
More balanced tech tree based on what they've learned from GalCiv.
Branching tech tree.
Branching "story" line based on events (this may be along the lines of whatever the "linked events" in the expansion pack are).
Multiplayer support.
Streamlined ship design to allow for more specialization in military tactics.

and so on...

There are a lot of things that could be done within the style and spirt of GalCiv that would make sequel worth the effort.

I'd like to see planets with more 'personality'.
I DON'T want to care for how much oxigen is in the atmosphere, how strong the gravity is and stuff like that. Keep it simple and abstract.
For example, split PQ into three values:
- habitation PQ (to determine pop growths and morale)
- production PQ (to determine production)
- economic PQ (to income from taxes and traderoutes)

So a planet with 17,17,17 would be like an old PQ17 planet, one with 15,16,24 is a ugly but important mining planet, 20,17,12 ia a agriculutural world and so on.
This is, I think, a good way to add more depths without making it to complicated. Uhm. And the AI could be able to handle this, I think. ;p

This, IMHO, is a really good idea. :)

Adding different civs might be nice too. That way you can also add to the playing experience number/tpye of opponents you play.

I'd also buy direct from Stardock.

I'd like more planetary defense and more tactical combat, fleet combat with user-designed fleets.

More keyboard friendly. See various posts about RSI, sore shoulders, wrists etc. The first thing I do with most software is look for keyboard shortcuts.

I would buy GalCiv2 just to support Brad & company.

#8 Duglis - what musuem are you antiquities director of? ;)

Heh, at my current job, I've got a shrink wrapped box of Windows 3.0 complete with big, fat manual from the day they still made those sitting on the shelf over one of the benches, now that's an antique.
