Search

I have looked and can't find the answer so sorry in advance if this has been asked and answered somewhere already.

Is there a way to search the forums so that it displays results other than just the threads that start with the search word. I searched for metaverse and only found threads that started with metaverse.

Thanks.

On another similar note, has the developers ever considered changing over to a more powerful forum software like vBulletin, which runs about $140, since the user participation is only going to continue to grow? The more features available to forum members the better besides the opportunities it can bring for overall organization.

I think it's been addressed. I believe the response was basically, "We'd have to divert resources from GalCiv support over to StarDock support." No one wants that. :)

Ok, I really don't understand much about how all that would work, or not work for that matter but figured it was worth mentioning. I frequent another forum board that was around for over 3 years and when we updated to vBulletin at the beginning of this year it made a tremendous difference.

Any insight on the search feature. I would like to find threads that include my search word but are not limited to the word having to be the first word in the thread title.

Does anyone know how to actually use the search correctly or not? It would be nice to know.

I'm afraid our webskills are tied heavily to ASP. PHP isn't a viable option.

I hope at some point we'll be able to do something with Microsoft's ASP.NET forums sample, but no time yet.

Why doesn't the galciv team turn over the forums to some trusted admins? I'm sure the people here have the skills and desire to manage a small forum system. $140 can't be a big dent in the GalCiv budget at this point, one would hope. And they can pick out someone they've known for a long time and just let them remotely administrate on a (controlled) machine of thiers it should be possible.

As a further note on what Ironhawk just said, on the other board we had several members anonymously donate $10 to cover the cost of the software. Another member set it all up in a couple of hours and the server space is provided free of charge. At least something to consider. Here is a http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~fof/forums/index.php?s= to the site incase anyone is interested in seeing what I am talking about.
