I did not know routers can suport that high of a speed HG.

I'm pretty sure I just won the award for worst internet

The best part is, I failed the test 7 times in a row before it finally completed. Kept getting errors on the latency and upload tests

You might want to speak with comcast about that. It is terrible, and it might be the fault of your router.

You should have them replace the router to see if it fixes things, because no cable modem should be that slow.

Another possibility is that you have multiple firewalls and/or virus programs running. If that is the case, reduce them.

One test you could make is to disable all virus and firewall software and try the test again. That should let you know if it is your software or router that is to blame.

It is the router, which, unfortunately, is something that Comcast doesn't provide, otherwise we would have bought a new one a long time ago. Our router is something like 8ish years old:P But today our new router is supposed to come (thank you Amazon black friday deals!) After that gets all set up, I'll run the test again and see what the speeds are like.

all i can say is ...notice u dont see 1 aussie p;layers speed test...why cause we got worse internet then 3rd world countries...considering i pay 129 a month for unlimited and unlimited home fone to any mobile and landline in aus... sounds great but when u see tghe conns ur getting and i live 1 street away from the exchange...it really really shits me.

Interesting - this isn't the file download speed I'm actually getting, hmmm...

agreed.  I don't think this test is very accurate.

Mine and Jafo's are up... we're through Telstra.

why cause we got worse internet then 3rd world countries..

It's not good, is it... particularly through Telstra, supposedly our biggest telco/ISP, and Optus is not a lot better.  There are better/faster providers, and these are much smaller companies (like iiNet, APT aaNet, etc) who offer more competitive prices on much better internet/phone packages.

No loyalty rewards, either.  New customers are getting similar or better deals for up to half price, while long-term customers are told they must see out their existing higher priced contracts.  When my contract is up if Feb 20io, Telstra can go and get stuffed.,. I'll be going with iiNet.... more than quadruple the speed/download at less than half the price of my current package with Telstra.

Retested mine 5 times to see if there were any fluctuations... it returns 1.32mbs download speed everytime, which is .18mbs less than I'm paying for... it should be 1.50 or thereabouts.

hey bro...check out Optus fusion + ...its better then west net and telstrra and like i said unlimited internet and u can choose the option u want... and yu get unlimited fone calls to any land line nad mobile in aus... i checked out everyone and they were the best from what i could see (not avail in all areas).

re test and ping

hey bro...check out Optus fusion + .

I wouldn't touch Optus with a pole... never again.  Had a direct debit arrangement with them and over a 12 month period they took 4 monthly payments twice... took me over a year to 18 months (after my contract was up) to recover my own money, and only then because my local MP intervened.

Nah, I think I'll go with iiNet... a 8 or 12mb/s connection @ 80gb  per month with phone for 49.95.  I'd be pushing to download that much per month (tho 3 - 4 of us might give it a nudge) and no direct debit... I'll never trust that again.

Okay, since it is no longer Monday, maybe folks want to post what they experience as their actually speeds for download and upload and how about reliability of the connection.  Speed is nice but if you are always experiencing problems with the connection it doesn't matter. :-"

for those questioning the results and saying this is not the speed you get when downloading; you have to remember that speeds are also based on the upload of the server. speedtest servers typically have very high uploads so that they can push your speeds as much as possible.

Wow, I'm really getting my money's worth for that 10Mbps connection! This is the same ISP that recently tried to triple my rates by instituting tiny (20GB) bandwidth caps with big overage charges while lying to everyone about how much money they would save once all the "bandwidth hogs" on the more expensive Turbo tier started to "pay their fair share." Now they won't upgrade to DOCSIS 3.0 because we wouldn't let them rip us off.

I would switch to another provider, but there aren't any. :'(

wow i been with them over a year but i dont have direct debit...

I chose (foolishly at the time, so it turned out) to have direct debit. It 'so-say' was going to save me $5.00 per month for not receiving a printed/paper bill, plus save me the time and effort to go pay it.  Yeah, right.... for 12 months service I was charged 16.  Then it took 12 -18 months to recover it.  Nope, never again.

The other thing about Telstra is they include uploads as part of your download count.  That's every word, every pic, every byte, thus forcing people, for whom 6gb of downloads only would be enough, to pay extra for a larger package than they would otherwise need.  No other Oz ISP charges for uploads as well, which is another reason I'm giving them the flick.  I'll no longer throw good money after bad to support sheer greed.

One good thing about this test, it's indicated I have a problem...

I'm in a rural area, so I've never had more than 1Mb. Some online tests I've done tells me one of my neighbours gets a 2Mb service, and a line test with BT tells me I should get up to 4Mb...!

Goodbye Sky. If they can't sort this, I'm gone.
