My new Hybrid Oak build

Ok, after reading through dozens of Oak strategies of all types, I have formulated my new build after play-testing in single-player (to make sure all the levels are right). It suits me about right, and I no longer have the misconception that Oak should be purely assassin or purely minion, which is good! Anyway, my new Oak build; please tell me what you think!

Favour Item: Blood of the Fallen

Level 1. Shield 1. Level 2. Divine Justice 1. Level 3. Penitence 1. Level 4. Shield 2. Level 5. Surge of Faith 1. Level 6. Penitence 2. Level 7. Shield 3. Level 8. Last Stand 1. Level 9. Divine Justice 2. Level 10. Shield 4. Level 11. Surge of Faith 2. Level 12. Spirit Ward 1. Level 13. Penitence 3. Level 14. Divine Justice 3. Level 15. Purity. Level 16. Spirit Ward 2. Level 17. Soul Power 1. Level 18. Soul Power 2. Level 19. Penitence 4. Level 20. Spirit Ward 3/Rally/Surge of Faith 3.

Immediately you will notice I don't take Raise Dead (Spirit) Ward until late, but that is because from what I have read Spirits aren't useful until late game. Now, like my first build, this is sorta based off other builds but probably has a mixed up or simply bad selection of when to get the skills in order. My Oak tends to have a lot of health and has two helms; usually Plenor and Vlemish, and early in the game starts with banded armour, scaled helm and so on. In any random end-game, he usually would have high regen, high hp and mana, and mid to high damage plus some lifesteal. I try to keep him simple, and I'll add/change as I go along, plus to everyone's criticisms. And I do buy idol monks; just a n00b talking.

I don't think this is very Hybrid at all :). More like assasin build but not as good. Here's why:

1. Don't get lvl 4 shield. It might heal you but you don't get the stun immunity so it isn't very good.

2. Don't get Last Stand. Better to spend some points in something you can acctually use when you are alive (that is the time to do things!) Also if you got lvl 3 shield you shouldn't really die that much. Preferrably not at all

If you want more of a hybrid build try getting Spirits earlier.

This is the worst oak build I have ever laid my eyes upon. I feel empty for having read it. I don't even want to show you where you are going wrong, just make a new build. Sorry.

You don't have to be an ass just because he is doing something you think is wrong.

Try this order:

  1. Shield
  2. Pen
  3. DJ
  4. Pen
  5. SOF
  6. Shield
  7. Shield
  8. Pen
  9. hold
  10. Pen + SOF
  11. Sould Power
  12. Ward
  13. Ward
  14. Ward
  15. SOF
  16. Ward
  17. DJ
  18. DJ
  19. DJ
  20. Ward

Ther reasoning:  Shield beyond level 3 has minimal return on investment value.  You also want to get spirits on the field as quick as possible due to their damage capabilites.

Last stand is not recommended.  With shield+port you won't die much at all.

Why I suggest getting penitence at level 2 and DJ at level 3:  Your monks will be keeping your health regen up a bit.  Between that and Blood, even if you engage 1v1 you will be able to regen quickly while guarding a tower.  Mana regen, on the other hand, is abysmal except on maps with +mana flags (levi etc.).  The DJ really helps get that mana back up for your next engagement.  However, without penitence, you really wont need the mana regen at all.  Hence I recommend getting the pen first so you have a damage+debuff as quick as possible.  At level 2 you can cast 1 pen and 1 shield.  Be sure to not cast pen twice though lol.

I recommend soul power before getting spirits becuase this adds +20 damage to your autoattack.  Spirits @ Ward 1 die easily but when you have 1 spirit, you get an additional +20 damage (+40 total) to your autoattack, and if you have 3 spirits active you get +60 to auto.  One option at ward 1 is to park your three spirits at the citadel until you get ward 2 or 3.

My recommended items:

Start:  Monks & Blood of the Fallen or Cloak.

1st trip to cit.  (war score 2) Vlemish + banded + port (always keep a port scroll)

2nd trip (war score 3) - Currency 1 or XP1 or Fotify Structure 1 (depending on which one isn't bought):

then:

(always have a lock and sigil)

Nimoths, Plenor, Hauberk, Groffling,

Recommended artifacts, for that rare occassion:

Girdle of the Giants, Mage Slayer (add narmoths ring to those two for additional happy fun time), bulwark etc.

Have fun !

If you wanna do jongalts build you could just as well change learn DJ at lvl 2 instead of Pen, won't have many to use it anyway. Better to add staying power earlier.

Esuzu does have a good point.

Lol it's alright say what you want about it. So my build's just gotten worse....well I never really got into either Demigod or DotA that much, so I don't expect any form of success in anything I do; including making builds. I'll do what's right though and take people's advice; that's what I should do, and not complain that "aww you guys don't know anything yadda yadda". Sorry ThatguyYouLove, but being a complete and total n00b, I think I'm entitled to some stupid builds aren't I? :inlove: Lol.

Yeah okay I'll take jongalts build and try that out....and I'll take Esuzu's advice to heart. No Last Stand? Hmm.....see the thing is I always thought it was just something to invest in, because it can cause the enemy to overextend and then get killed. But then, it's not worth dying at all in my opinion, when I think about it. Shield 3 prob is enough, but I just like to well....overextend in abilities sometimes I guess. Also yeah I guess I should have put Soul Power first; see I know all the stats and stuff of all the abilities and what they do and how useful each is, but I just tend to pick something that isn't right and hold onto it dearly. Spirit Ward yeah I should prob get a bit earlier, considering it still helps, but it's just not all that good for the early game. Thanks again for the help guys....I think I'll stop embarrassing myself in strategies and keep to Ideas and stuff lol. Thanks again!

As a pure Oak player I am seconding this. At level 2 you won't have enough mana to use penitence more than once (maybe twice, but then you might not be able to shield, always hold enough for a shield). At 3 you get pen so you can get level 2 penitence at four (and hopefully around this time you'll be able to get Vlemish/Scaled so you can start using more abilities).

Don't get last stand,,, Oak is character that has best skills but they are too many... to choose 1 to master.

Getting last stand before level 15 is completely waste,, I think
