Impluse LIES

Impluse LIES

So my buddy has Sins of a Solar Empire, and the Expansion (Entrenchment).  And one day when it updated it deleted it from his comp. Now his impulse has no "my games" or "my software" tabs, he cant reinstall Sins or Entr, but in the registration it says he has them, and it lists thier serial keys.  To boot, when he does the 'send me my cd key' thing where it sends the list of items you bought through impulse, it says he has nothing. So then why are they registered to him? and how does he go about reinstalling them?

Yes, I have indeed done that. However when requesting the information, I am send the infor pertaining to this account, not the one that I no longer have access to. I believe this is because the games were origanally bought on that account, so they do not show up as being registered to this one, even tho the two were merged.

I can't simply have the information email sent from the other account, because I no longer have that email address.

Try clicking the Impulse menu and check "Show freeware & demos" and "Show hidden applications."  That should get your tabs back.

To remedy this, I contacted stardock a long while ago, and had them merge that account with another one (this one)

Do you mean you had your STardock account merged with your Impulse account?

SO does the info that you DO get show you registered to the game?

I'm guessing this is the problem, which means you'll have to wait until Monday and contact them to fix it.

I had a simialr problem with all my T\Sradock software twice when I changed my name and when I changed my email. They resolved it pretty quickly for me.

I don't get info regarding my registered games... Just about my impulse account. The thing that makes this confusing is that I've already had them fix it twice before. I am just sick of being at their mercy when it comes to being able to play my game.

I can appreciate that. What was the problem the two previous times?

Same as this time. I go to play them, they say they need to update, I click update, they uninstall, then I never hear anything again. So I ticket SD, they did something (been a while, I don't recall what exactly) which allows me to re-download and re-install the games, which are updated due to them being the most recent version. They then work until they need to update again. Lather, Rinse, Repeat.

Have you tried my suggestion to restore the tabs?

They then work until they need to update again.

COuld be your anti-virus or firewall. JUst guessing. I looked around in some of the other forums and I noticed that AVG and Norton has caused similar problems with downloads and logging in.

Hang on til Monday.  And don't give up on Stardock. I see a lot of folks with issues start threads like this, but honestly, in the four years I've been dealing with them, any and all issues I ever had were resolved pretty fast. I don't know why yours is lingered on so long, but if you post the info I mentioned here or in the SINS forum, someone will probably come up with an answer for you.

Well, I appreciate your help. But crap. I just wanted to play some sins before my holidays ended. Sorry for being such an arse earlyer... But crap man, this program is pissing me off.

Quipster...it's currently 6.23am, Sunday Stardock time...so if you can at least [again] give it a few more hours I may be able to point the appropriate people to this thread.

At least I can now follow what is happening....and to whom.

The genesis of this thread was borderline total confusion [to an observer].

When you next manage to dl sins...and have it running....I'd suggest backing it up somewhere so it doesn't inadvertently get uninstalled due to an update....as it appears it is your account 'mess' that causes the updating to fail.

Now that you have calmed down a bit I will offer another suggestion to try. As you have previously mentioned having 2 email accounts and having them merged then you can try merging them again here - Transfer Registrations

Put the email you don't have access to any more in the Source Account and the email you are using now in the Destination Account.

* FWIW - When someone does offer you help it would be beneficial for you (and your friend) to reply civilly and without the extra crap that was posted. Members here are more than happy to try and assist others when the conversations are respectful on both sides.

@Quipster:

I've given your account a good solid kick.  Try closing Impulse and running the following file:

http://sd.stardock.com/curthendzell/fix_registrations.reg

Make sure to follow the link in Internet Explorer, as other web browsers will not handle the file type correctly.  Once you follow the link, save the file and double click it to apply it.  Then relaunch Impulse.  You will need to re-login with your username/e-mail (either will work) and password.

Your games should then be visible in Impulse; if they still aren't, try reinstalling Impulse once more(I know you have a couple times already) from the full installer: http://www.impulsedriven.com/impulse_setup_full.exe.

Like I said earlyer, I have already exhausted every other option I could find; you need to be able access both email accounts, as when you try to re merge them at the transfer registrations page, it informs you that an email containing a URL has been dispatched to both email accounts, and will need to be clicked on to complete the transfer.

I am very greatful for the help, I simply get irritated when I need to repeat the same thing four or five times becuase people continuoulsy give me the same advice over and over again, and then procede to call me a pirate, among other things, for not listening to them, when I have in fact tried what they suggested, and posted that It didnt work. So if your going to tell me that you're happy to assist me, please ensure that you know what is going on before suggesting something, that way I don't have clarify what has already been tried again, which will cause me to become more annoyed at the fact that my game is not working.

This appears to have solved the problem. I now have a "My Games" tab, and I appear to be able to re-download my software. I will most definatly make at least a few copies of the install files and will continue to use Impulse to run the game as long as the software seems capable. But if it decides it's going to pull this crap again, at least I will be able to install the game sans impulse. Thanks for your help... As well as everyone in this thread. I know I seemed to be quite uncooporative, but think of it from my perspective... I only get a few days of holidays a year, and I don't particularly want to spend them waiting for someone else to go back to work so I can play a game that I paid for. I do appreciate that it now seems to be working, but I only have a few hours left in my last day of holidays. At least I can play a few rounds of sins on the weekends now.

And by the way... I believe someone claimed that I had a pirated copy... Well, you were indeed wrong... So ha.

I apologize.

And if Jafo or one of the Mods can send me the info, I will put your pre-order in for Democracy.

This is one thing I don't mind being wrong about.

That's big of you, and as cool a democracy looks, you don't have to do that. This whole issue could have been solved in a much more civilized way, so I wouldn't hold it against you :P

Thanks again for all the help tho.

you don't have to do that

Yes I do.

I just don't know how to do it. It asks gor all 'your' personal info (name, adress, email, account) for me to purchase it for you. I PM'd Jafo for some assistance on it. Didn't know if you would be comfortable emailimg me the info.

If I came off as an ass, I apologize. I have been dealing with kidney stones for about four weeks or so. I was on the tail end of surgery for the last week with a stint to my kidney and an ass load of pain killers.

Gads, what a method of pain killer ingestion...

My father had one of those recently... Didn't seem like a very pleasent experience... He certanly didn't look like he wanted to be troubleshooting things on a web forum anyway :P

SHit.

You don't wanna know where and how they gave me the laticane gel this morning to pull out the stint.

I have come to the conclusion that when it comes to kidney stones, it's all a big conspiracy of lies and misinformation because if they told us what was really involved or what they might have to do, we'd run as fast as we could. For instance, when I asked if removing the stint would hurt the response was "You'll fell better when it's out." That does not constitute an answer in my book. Misdirection is more like it. I barely gotta a glimpse of the apparatus they used to give me the laticane. They don't want you to see it. Because once you did, you would begin to put together a picture in your head of how they were going to get it into you.

And the stint....To me, the actual word 'stint' when spoken aloud implies something small. Something 'very' small. HA! More deception.

And now they say I may still pass what they refer to as 'dust' or 'residue' from the stones. BY 'dust' they probably mean 'small organic asteroids'. When I asked if it will hurt, I am told "You will feel better when they pass'. Isn't that what they told John Hurt in Alien..."Yeah, but don't you feel better now that it's burst through your chest cavitiy?"
