Fire and Death

imageGreetings!

I must say, this has been the best beta experience we’ve ever had.  I think one big reason for this is because Elemental is a brand new game. The sky has been the limit in ideas to try and retry.

Today marks the one month from release date.  We’re pretty excited about how things are coming together.  The changes in performance and stability have been pretty dramatic along with the sheer amount of game balancing and AI changes.

I do wish I had more time with the AI before 1.0.  But then again, even if I had another year on it, I would still wish I had more time for the AI.

Today we’re mainly focusing on bug fixing. Bugs in quests. Bugs in loading ships. Bugs in spells.

And I had to admit this but even I have bugs in my code… :)

Thanks for the update.

How close up to the release date will you be working on Elemental? What I mean is, what is the cutoff date for the version of the game that is going to be downloaded on the 24th? I assume after this date you will be working on the first patch?

I would assume that since it's digital, they have until the day of to work on it. Maybe a day or two before that to make sure there aren't any horrible bugs in it.

The beta has been interesting from my point of view as well.    The game has changed significantly so many times that it is like having tried several games.

Over that time EWOM has certainly become better.  Less bugs.  More featrues.  Better balance.

But the real question is "what will it play like at release"

Wooo, variable mismatch, gotta love them.  Drives me nuts when i make those bugs in code, though i fail at finding them normally so i'm Raging by the time i finally fix it to the point i have to go do something else, glad to see you see the funny side of it^^

I do not want to be rude or anything, but have you considered make smaller squares in tactical combat? I mean, at the moment, if you attack somebody, that unit runs arround in that square, which is a little bit stupid for me.... also, how you will  add something like a sweep attack etc... which attack more units arround? Would not be better to have smaller squares, where bigger units take more squares, like 4 for dragon and one for normal army etc? It would look and feel more realistic to me.

Ya but they have to be bigger for when you have stacks of 20 soldiers on that square.

Are the foot soldiers skeleton-undead in the small image. (Geez I wish those teaser images expanded up to nice full screen images). :)

To add to that if that dragon is breathing fire, does that mean that you have started hooking up special abilities to Monsters/Champions.  If so... Woot!

Or they could take up more than one square like a large creature.  I also vote for smaller squares if you guys still have time for a change like this.

That video on that was pretty good to though Brad. But this is very exciting to know it's so close to going live!

Hahahah :)

That reminds me of CariElf's old old old thread about Stardock's Coding practices and this excellent article on Hungrarian Notation and how its supposed to be used that was linked to in the comments.

I still send it to people when they wonder why my code looks the way it does.  Granted I've been kinda lax lately.. great now I'm thinking about work and how to clean up my mess Monday morning.

Thanks.. I think I'll go have a margarita to help me forget about it. :)
