Do not buy this game second hand

Warning to anyone thinking of buying this game second hand DONT. You will have a broken and unusable product. This game and it's company are majorly flawed in the age of tradie-ins and ebay.

Bought this game froma shop where it had been traded in, because it looked good. how wrong was I. Got home installed it and then tried to patch it couldn't because of the arcaic way the company runs. you have to register the game first before you can patch or play online ok cool I said typed in the serial key only to find it's a one time use. Emailed the makers only to be told I had vialeted there ELUA by buying the game second hand. So I decided to read the manual from page to page and no where in there does it say DO NOT SELL THIS GAME ON.

Reported the makers and support to trading standards and taking the matter further.

Just warning any other person not to buy this game second hand as you will have a broken, unusable  pile of plastic.

It's like $10 new. Just out of curiosity what did you pay for it second hand?

Most companies don't resell used pc games because 1) more folks would just copy the game and return 2) many cd keys can only be used by 1 individual.

I assume you shouldn't have any issues returning the game that doesn't work in MP over the internet to the store you bought it from, right?  Where's you buy it?

err.. you should be reporting the store not the makers.  They definitely know about DRM and the piracy issues with PC games.  They clearly knew they were scamming you.

It's like being shot by a guy and going after the the company who made the trigger for the gun.  That company isn't responsible, it's the guy who shot you who you should go after.

I think I have an extra copy that I tried to get a friend to play unsuccessfully.  You can have it if you really want but I don't see why you would.  I check out the lobby nowadays and there are no games going and the two games being played are called "So lonely..." and "Does Anyone Still Play?"

I suggest you find another game to play.  It was a deeply addicting, very fun game that had some horrible issues that stopped it from becoming the next Starcraft phenomenom... but this game was all about the multiplayer and thats pretty much dead now.

In fact I don't play any longer... just hang around these forums cause I miss these guys.  Pacman, lets get you into DoW!  I know you said you don't like it that much, but thats probably cause you are old like me and couldn't figure things out.  Don't be proud, let Hedgie teach you...

:D

Father, you're back! :w00t:

SC2 is extremely expensive, don't forget you have to save for your children university funds!

Come and join Hedgie, Thunder and me in Dawn of War 2, it's a lot cheaper (you can get vanilla DoW2 quite cheap) and "easier"-slower than SC2, perfect for an old man like you .........:X

In all honesty though, i'm not playing it as much/often as i did demigod, an most of our OMG mates have moved to SCII, so maybe SC II is a better bet for you... :\   I won't buy it anytime soon though, i refuse to pay THAT much money for a game i don't find THAT good nor innovative. Gotta say i enjoyed the SP campaign a lot while my guest pass lasted, though.

P.S: DoW 2 allows Coop. play in Campaign, and has another cooperative survival mode (The last Stand).... :-"

I'll pick it up soon...  just trying to get competent enough at DoW II that Hedgie isn't constantly disappointed in me before i try and get into another game.

Apparently, my crappy connection is only crappy enough to log me out of Demigod... I've DC'd from exactly 1 game of DoW II so far, so SC II should be fine... and that might have been my GF unplugging the router for a second but I have no proof... except that she's been PMSing bad.

LMAO!

DoW sounds fun, i know you're trying to keep a *normal sleep schedule. Is there a time that we could play that wouldn't be bothersome?  I have slightly more availability on the weekends as opposed to my 9ishpm EST game time.

Demigod is also still currently my primary so i would play that first :-)

hope to see you on bro!

oh and i aint that old !

well... dow2 to be specific.  It has a fun co-op campaign.  So, if that's your bag, its worth the price of admission.  Its like a a full scale rts, without base building.  There are upgrades to units and lots of strategy.  I'd consider SC2 deeper as far as strat and possibilities go (because you have to build a base, choose expansion, micromanage 1000 things etc).  I suppose the easiest thing to say would be that if you don't enjoy the base building mechanic of most rts games, dow2 might be just for you.  I'd easily recommend it if its on sale for co-op alone.  There's a segment of the OMG folks that are die hard dow2 and a seg thats becoming die hard sc2.  Might want to check out a demo though.  It is not like the previous installments of dow.

Current game replays with commentary, most players there are pretty good, though they aren't ALL good :D

It's a RTS game that focuses mostly on the tactical over strategy. That is, the economy/basebuilding/tier system is much more streamlined to focus on actually micro'ing combat, which is much more diverse and tactical than Starcraft (blob -> click -> use some abilities, nothing has proper range and they bump into eachother forming half-circles, why micro a fight when you can spend those clicks macro'ing to overwhelm your opponent blahblah :D ).

First skirmish typically happens within 30 seconds of the game start and combat is pretty active through the entire 20-30 minute game (1v1 tends to start a little slower and have a few more pauses in combat).

Basically, if you play RTSs to actually KILL stuff rather than BUILD stuff then DoW is filled with 20 minutes of killing stuff :P

However, even the most "epic" 100 pop-cap battles in DoW are going to be smaller in scale compared to most other RTSs (especially Supreme Commander). It's a squad-based game and so you typically don't have more than 5-6 individual units to control at any given time. However, units actually survive more than a few seconds in combat, and squad/unit preservation is VERY important and there are several mechanics in place to ensure that your units escape to fight another day.

That actually sounds interesting.

Anyways, SC2 is pretty damn good.  The amount of polish in the game is absolutely amazing.

The music is fantastic, graphics are great, cut scenes are some of the best i've ever seen in a game.

Even if you don't play online this game is well worth the price of admission.

My only complaint is the control response in the viking mini-game is too slow.  (And that the game doesnt have a zoom, which i HATE)
