Any chance of a matchmaking system in the future?

So I've just recently reinstalled Demigod and remembered how fun it is and how much I enjoy the creative aspects (the demigod character concepts and voice acting and all) but judging by these forums, the multiplayer scene is in a bit of trouble.

Has there been any word from the devs mentioning adding a matchmaking system to allow people to find games faster and easier instead of a lobby system exclusively?

Take DoWII for instance: has a lobby system and a ranked matchmaking system (albeit through Games for Windows Live, but still better than nothing), not one or the other.

Is there any chance Demigod could get a matchmaking system?

Has there been any news regarding this?

And does anyone else think it would bring waves of people back and increase the multiplayer population?

Huh. I had completely forgotten about the Pantheon.

Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way of specifying what game type you want though.

And on top of that, I sat for several minutes and couldn't find a match. The custome game lobby is nearly dead too.

What happened to this game? Where did everyone go?

This game is dead with the release of v 1.3. Desynch critical is not fix, no new maps, lobby crash (timed out) when ppl join/part a lot of time, good players are almost all gone so there is a lot of "noob/beginner" game in lobby, SCII has been release, pantheon is dead when they removed the bots, etc

I just realized there are two ripoff games out there now: League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth.

Too bad the developers of Demigod didn't bother with proper support.

If they had, I bet Demigod wouldn't have lost to blatant copies with inferior graphics. <_<

everything died because of the ppl, because you can see their wins and losses. the ppl with their prematches are to blame fully for this, it started the scourging of the community.

so yea, a mtachmaking system might help, as long the statistics are not viewable by others

League of Legends is not a rip off of Demigod.  However, it could effectively be called a "rip-off" of DotA.  However, that doesn't effectively make the game "bad".  The same comment could be made about DG being a rip off of DotA.

League of Legends has fantastic support, loads of characters and different character skins and the runes and masteries give an incentive for people to keep playing and be creative with their builds.  It's a good game, with admittedly inferior graphics compared to Demigod.  Also, League has pretty nice mechanics too.  I'm spending a lot more time on this game these days.

HoN is bad.  Don't play it.  It's taken the original and very dated DotA and kept all the worst things about it without improving anything.

A lot of the people I used to play Demigod with don't play much anymore, so when I do play nowadays it's kinda for nostalgia if one of my friends is online.  There's also a complete lack of competition in demigod now (at the times I play anyway).

Something I've noticed is a lot of the people with a 50% win rate now play something like a 40% played in February. :/

Regarding your query about matchmaking - for matchmaking to work that requires a critical number of players to be playing at any one time in order for matches to be balanced at all.  Demigod's gaming population is too low to support this.

With talk of Demigod 2  on the way (to recoup the losses they made in DG1), and SD being busy with Elemental it doesn't look like we're going to get a single other improvement to DG.

I don't blame them.  It would only be worth upgrading if there were enough people still buying the game.  :|

no.  99% certainty no further support will be given to DG.  For matchmaking to be good, it would require an entirely new structure for ranking, and that's definitely not going to happen.

also, entiiiirely wrong.  The people who constantly hated on teams and never ever wanted to join them are to blame for lack of continued competition in DG.  They drove ppl who play together away.  When you don't have strong competition, the game is rather lackluster.  This was said over and over, nobody believed the ppl who did premades, and look what happened.. everything we said was true.

I read somewhere recently that the multiplayer system used for Demoigod just plain doesn't work very well. Stardock thought GPG were working on it and GPG thought Stardock were working on it so in the end we got some rubbish connection system which causes a lot of desyncs.

Maybe Chris Taylor will do Demigod 2 in a couple of years time and put their demons to rest.
