This thread will cover all of the relevant rules and registration information.  Please see below for all of the details.

The tournament began on 10/16/2010.  Please be aware that this tournament will not begin and end on 10/16/2010.  It will actually take several weeks to complete.

Background

In April 2010, we started our first community demigod tournament.  The tournament was 2v2 and certain demigod selections were restricted.  The tourney carried a crash prize donated by people in the community and was won by the two man team of zen_god and King_of_thorns.  For more details on that tourney, read up here: (http://forums.demigodthegame.com/380837).

Tournament Format

  • The tournament will be played as a 3v3 round robin tournament.  Round robin simply means that there is no elimination outside of disqualification.  Your team will play each and every team.
  • Each match in the tournament will consist of 3 total games.
  • We will track every win and loss.  The team with the most wins is the winner of the round robin portion of our tournament.
  • After the round robin has concluded, the top 4 teams will battle it out elimination style in the best 2 out of 3 games.

Tournament Rules

  • All matches will be played on cataract with default settings (the only exceptions being AI HP on Very High and AI Gold/XP on low).
  • Each team will play 1 round on the light side, then 1 round on the dark side.  In the 3rd round, if each team has 1 win, the team that had the fastest win in game 1 or 2 gets to pick the side they want to be on.  If one team already has 2 wins, the team with no wins gets to pick the side they want to be on (keep in mind the following rule).
  • The team that is on the dark side must pick their characters and ready up first.  Then the team on the light side gets to pick and the dark side does not have a chance to adjust their characters.
  • Players using oak may not use spirits to perform a citadel rush.  Any player doing this will have their entire team disqualified for that game giving a win to the opposing team. If you don't know what this terminology means, odds are you aren't citadel rushing with spirits.
  • Players MUST form their own teams
  • One player from each game must report their stats in.  We will open up a tournament stat tracking thread after the tournament begins.
  • To track your wins, you must do the following - post the replay at gamereplays.org.  If you have issues with gamereplays, upload the file to rapid share and provide us with a link.  One player from the winning team should do this for each and every match.
  • Each team must complete a minimum of 2 matches (6 games) per week.  If there are extenuating circumstances, then the decision making panel will review them.  Failure to complete 2 matches per week will result in a disqualification for your team.
  • ALL teams are required to use the version of the uberfix mod here:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/399037

Alternates

  • Each team is allowed to have exactly 1 alternate
  • The alternate must not be participating in the tournament (either directly registered for the tournament or on a duplicate account). If it is discovered that the alternate is a player that is already in the tournament, but using a different account, all of those matches will be forfeited.
  • The same alternate cannot be used by multiple teams
  • If a team wins a cash prize with an alternate on their team, that team must determine how they will handle the prize money.  The decision making panel has nothing to do with how you choose to split up the money.

Prize

There will be a cash prize > $600.  Jongalt will be handling the collection of the money for this tournament.  We are discussing the prize money in this linked thread:  http://forums.demigodthegame.com/398009.  We appreciate any contributions to the prize.  YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED TO PAY TO PLAY IN THIS TOURNEY.

Here is how we will be splitting the winnings from the pot:

  • 10% goes to the team that wins the round robin
  • 50% of the balance goes to the winner of the playoffs
  • 25% of the balance goes to the 2nd place winner of the playoffs
  • 15% of the balance goes to the 3rd place winner of the playoffs
  • Participation raffle - 1 player from a team that has completed all of their games in the tournament will be entered into a random drawing after the tournament ends.  That player will receive a prize of $30 as incentive for finishing the tournament.  This money will be taken from the total cash pot before any other money is distributed by percentage.  Any player that has won a cash prize is NOT eligible for the participation raffle.

Demigod Selection

Each 3 man team must use the following formula to make their Demigod character selections based on a 7 point maximum.  Be aware that no duplicate demigods are permitted on the same team.  This means you cannot choose random.

  • Demon Assassin/Regulus - 1 point
  • Oculus/Queen of Thorns/Senda/Torch Bearer - 2 points
  • Lord Erebus/Oak/Rook/Unclean Beast - 3 points

Tournament Time Zone

The official time zone of the tournament is set for EST US time.  Players that are outside of that timezone are certainly welcome to play.  However, if there are significant scheduling difficulties due to players unable meet at the same time, the team furthest outside of the EST zone will most likely be disqualified or forfeit that match.  This rule does not excuse folks in the EST zone from any responsibility.  All parties in this tournament should endeavor to schedule their matches with other teams and try to be as flexible as possible.

Decision Making Panel

This tournament will be governed by a decision making panel consisting of pacov, McShane, hedgie with Jongalt as an alternate.  The panel's purpose is as follows:

  • Review any scheduling issues and making the final decisions with regards to disqualification.
  • Reviewing replays as required (crashes and desyncs)
  • Resolving any disputes that arise

The panel's decision on all matters will be the final word for this tournament. And last, the members of the decision making panel will not make any decisions on the games they are playing in.  We didn't have a panel in place for the first tournament and that was a mistake.

How will we handle crashes

If there is a game crash, the players involved in that match should see if they can come to a consensus on the probable outcome of the match.  If there is no clear winner, the 2 teams should replay the match using the exact same demigods and sides (light/dark).  If there was a clear winner at that point in the game, then that team should be awarded the win.  If the 2 teams disagree on the outcome, then the decision making panel will review the replay of the match and render a decision.  Be aware that the decision making panel must agree that a specific team was going to win or the results will be thrown out and the match redone.  Please be thoughtful if you want the panel to review a match.

How we will handle invalid game states

The lastgamereplay file is still created in the event of an invalid game state, so it is still possible to review the results of a match.  In the event of an invalid game state, players should attempt to resolve the issue exactly the same way as game crashes.  If you believe foul play occurred, submit the replay along with any screen shots, etc, as evidence and the decision making panel will review.  If there is a CLEAR consensus that a team is willingly triggering invalid game states, that team will be disqualified after a thorough review of the facts and will no longer be able to participate in the tournament.  If your game does crash, it might be advisable to take a screen shot of the crash as proof.  Be aware that we know invalid game states can occur without any sort of foul play, so please be mindful when submitting requests for review.

Here's all of the info you need to get started:

Here is where you can download the client (its free): http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

Here are instructions on how to use ventrilo to connect to a server:  http://www.ventrilo.com/setup.php

And here's the needed server info:

Server Name:  Lagwar's Ventrilo Server
Hostname:
oxygen.typefrag.com
Port:
50216

I have created some password protected channels for those of you that would like to use the server.  Scroll down until you see channel Oh My Demigod.  You will then see tournament channel 1/2/3.  The password for these channels are demigod.  Let me know if you have any questions.

And if votes still are accepted, I vote for a draft.

well... if enough people keep chiming in, sure... votes are cool.  We'll have to count them up again.  I'll add u to the list dark.

I will loan you two my Mithrandar unless zen plus somebody will have him.  Orcun and I have formed our team; and he was unfortunately the odd guy out because it was arranged months ago in the event of a 3 vs 3 tournament, which nobody thought would actually happen.  I'm sure Hedgie's 5 GB internet will be fine, I don't think gaming is too bad for using up cap space, it's video streaming and torrents that do most of the damage.

Announcing our first committed team that I know of:  Soccer - Cow - Pacov.

Background info - here's pacov's mind.  I don't mind being honest (as I lie so much in community vent) and hope any of you folks involved don't mind too much.  I hadn't officially locked down a team.  Through my pugging, I've locked down MANY options, but honestly, no one that I think can beat a team of tier 1s.  I saw nom's invite for me, jon, nom.  I thought - jon will need to be oak to be competitive.  We will have a less flexible team.  So I think, odds are against us vs all tier 1 team based on our demigod restrictions that will likely be in place (35% or so in my mind to win).  So I think, what options do I have.  I check out cow to see what he has going on.  He's talking about a team of soccer/cow/pete.  Pete says fug it, find someone else.  I say, cool.  Team = pacov/soccer/cow is born.  And we have a team that can likely roll against an all tier 1 team.  I think I have the most unpredicatable team possible.  If you've played with me, I play hyper aggressive, conservative, etc.  Sometimes with poop effects - sometimes with VERY successful results.  Cow plays ooze beast. I mean - c'mon.  Who does that and wins.  And yet - he does.  Then there is soccer.  Solid player without much insanity.  In short - it should be hard to predict what will happen.  It could be terrible failure, but also big time success.  I very much expect exciting games against whoever the top teams will be.

So - what other teams do we have, you lazy bastards.  Form up.  Pm.  Chat on vent.  Give me 1 or 2 more 3 man squads.

Side note - I don't really want to complicate this needlessly, but I think I and many of the tier 1 folks would be more than happy to ALSO join up with the other teams that are needing someone.  We would take no additional point standing for the games and improve the odds of those folks doing well... Of course, in a round robin, that causes a problem when we have to fight against ourselves (but perhaps we could simply call that a bi-game.  But if we go that route, it gives us more incentive to kick ass on the teams we join to hurt the top players even though we are fighting other tier 1 teams at a handicap.  To me, that's a win win.  More fun for us - and more competitive fun for the tier 1 players.  The only real way we screw ourselves is that if somehow one of our alt teams ends up fighting us in the finals.  If that happened, we could always declare an alternate before the tourney started and have them play for us.

Orcun and I have formed our team

3rd = ?

Edit - updated the op based on the latest info.  Jon - I'll keep handling the organizational stuff for a little bit longer, then will hand if off to you and you will be the official chairman of this tourney (having the last word unless you set up a committee, etc, to help with decisions on this or that.  I'll get you a nice framework in place though to make it ez.

Edit edit - you might want to think about getting people to help you as it was a lot of work for me last time.  Consider that brackets have to be made, someone has to collect the money before the tourney starts and distribute it to the winner, if a match needs reviewed, someone has to review it, etc.  You can do it all yourself, but you might be best off coming up with a few folks that you consider somewhat unbiased to make decisions or trustworthy folks to handle the money, etc.

Jon - would you mind going back through the last 3 pages and coming up with the current total votes and votes pending?  If you get a chance of course... I think we might need to wait until Sun to decide the final vote at this rate.

hah - nice.  That should be a good team!  I will list your team with defender as a teammate when I publish current teams in the op.

Guys - MAKE YOUR TEAMS!!!

edit - there are still quite a few VERY talented folks out there to snag up.  Strongly suggest you start pming and recruiting.  If they don't have a team right now, they are looking for 1!

Hey Pacov,

Can we maybe get the OP highlighted/ color-coded with the teams that are set so that those of us looking for a third or are currently solo can see who is available to recruit?

Thanks.

Seriously, Hedgie, you need to make up your mind girl, and decide wether you're participating or not, there's three of us here trying to form a team you know :typo: .

BTW, mysterious Defender plays from Germany (handy opengames.asp :digichet: ), so unless Renz has moved there from Serbia...

Another very good player from Germany was Celmare so it could be him, just throwing that out there.......:-"

Votes are in End Result:  Form Your Own 3-person Teams and get them registered!

Registration Cutoff:  10/3/10  11:59pm

Vote Tallies:

No:  Orcun Zen Chiefy  Baddaddy  Jongalt  McShane  Nomilarac  Cowbutt  Mithrander Thundercles Bloodowl  Volen Defender (assumed) (18 votes)

Yes:  Pacov  Yeahneil  LordOrion  Teseer  Pangea  Darkliath (8 votes)

Have not heard from:  ruiprsg StiffyG generalG  beastmode  (4 votes)

Based on the votes above (and in agreement with Pacov) I think we can go ahead and close out this discussion.   If a bunch of people catch wind of the tournament this weekend and want to vote we can revisit it if necessary.   Although i doubt that will happen at all lol.

I've also set a preliminary registration cut-off date.  I would like to give teams 2 weekends to get sorted out.  If you guys want an extension we can do that, i'm just throwing the date up there as a place holder.

Secondary Tourney

It would be great that we could do a draft tourney immediately following this tourney.  For the people that voted Yes - it won't hurt to play in this tourney, it will be fun.  We'll also try to accomodate your wishes and come up with a game plan for a point system / draft system for the next one.  Perhaps a pantheon like system if pantheon worked the way we'd want it to lol  That will be challenging though due to the complexity.

Tournament Time Zone

the tournament is set for EST US time.  For those that are outside of the timezone we certianly welcome you to play.  However if there are significant scheduling difficulties and it is due to the timezone differences, the team furthest outside of the EST time zone will most likely be DQ'd. If you pretend you are from Korea then you accept their timezone :-) hehehe

Decision making panel:  I nominate Pacov, McShane & Hedgie with Lord Orion as an alternate (should one of those 3 not want the responsibility or aren't available)  These 4 folks have been involved with the discussion the most, they are on separate teams, and represent both the sides of the Draft versus no Draft vote. They are also all very experienced players and have been around for a long time.  I can step in if necessary but nominating oneself isn't cool lol.

The decision making panel will be responsible for:

1.  Reviewing any scheduling issues and making the final decision to DQ

2.  Reviewing questionable replays if necessary.

3.  Any disputes that arise.

4.  Anything else that can be added here lol.

The panel's decision would final on all issues.

This is also a non-voting issue.  If the 4 guys above don't mind accepting the responsibility please respond with a yes and we'll roll with that.

GET THE WORD OUT!

If you're playing another game, it wouldnt hurt to load demigod up in the background, host a password protected game, and for the lobby name, advertise the tournament.  There's a lot of good players out there that would probably be interested but don't troll on the forums like we do.

Replay Commentary.  Anyone interested in doing an SC2 style replay commentary for the great games?  Would anyone even watch them lol?  (I can provide software to capture the game in video format, and audio)

Tournament Name:  I would like the name of the tournament to have Pacov's name in it.  For a lot of us, Pacov has helped us understand and learn the game.  He has been a huge help for the community: getting folks to join lagwars, balancing teams for "fight nights", willingness to play with anyone, interfacing the community with Stardock and getting responses from Brad etc.  So i say lets raise our Pints (preferable Newcastle Brown Ale, or Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout) and give a toast to Pacov for all the things he's done.

Pacov's Last Stand Tournament Huzzzzaaaahhhh

Tournament Finances

Send your money to me muuhahahahahahaha.  Pacov is a known trustworthy source but i don't want to saddle him with the work of messing with it. PM me and i will send you my paypal account info or a mailing address or something to help make it happen.

Submission of the money.  I would prefer if you send the money to me via paypal.  I'll upload my commitment to paypal and will leave all of the money there for distribution after the tournament.  I would prefer to send the winnings out via paypal as well.  If you don't have a paypal account then you could use a friends with someone on your team who does have one and will send you the cash.  Otyher options include moneygram, 2-day fed-ex or something.  The fees for sending would come out of your winnings.  Paypal accounts are free and make life a lot easier.  If you don't have an account just go set one up now. We'll worry about currency exchange if we need to in the future.

Balance of what needs to be determined:

  1. Demigod Restrictions
  2. Tournament Rules
  3. Tournament Style (Full Round Robin or Round Robin for seeding of a bracket etc.)
  4. Timeframe for game completion
  5. Point system for Round Robin

We'll tackle these one by one.
