Is multiplayer alive?

Hi folks,  Just bought the game with the Impulse sale (6 bucks is a decent price and I have looked at this title in the past with some interest).

That being said... I understand this is a DOTA clone... Been playing a lot of LoL lately and enjoying it.  This game seems to have a more robust single player option (LoL has none really and limited usage of bots for training/practice), but... where is the multiplayer?  I tried to queue for a Pantheon match since there were only 2 custom games showing and I figured Pantheon would use some type of matchmaking system but didn't get a game inside of 10 minutes...

I looked here at the Pantheon information page and I see an average of 2 games played per day... Is that pretty much it?  It's a shame because the game seems fun but single player as it is will only have a limited life span in this game.  I'm guessing LoL and HON took a huge chunk of the population this year?

In any case, since there seems to be a minimal number of games I encourage all like-minded noobs to start playing multiplayer (custom or Pantheon) so we can at least have some fun as other than the lack of interest the game seems to be decent!

It's a nice game Stardock for what it is, but I feel a bit let down that nobody is playing multiplayer and that is sort of what this game is pitched as.

Congrats on getting the game !  It's a good one, but has a bit of a learning curve.  I recommend playing with a few demi's at first then picking a demigod and learning the skills for that one.  I would have to recommend Beast, Erebus or Oak. Be sure to check the strategy forums for different builds.  Also as of note, you can wear more than 1 of the same item (ie. 2 helms, 2 armors etc.)  Most demi's are played with 2 helms, 2 armors and boots.  (ig. Vlemish + Plenor + Banded + Nimoth + unbreakeable boots)

Other great items include:

Narmoths Ring

Sigils

Teleport scrolls, flag locks etc.)

If you play a general (oak or erebus) your first purchase should be monks. 

Save your online favor points until you can buy Blood of the Fallen - which is the best favor item for most demi's (at least until you learn the game)

 

With that said: 

Pantheon really isn't played that much bro. Most of the players are in the Custom Games.  As a new player you will find that you will be kicked from most games.  Don't get discouraged though.  I recommend hosting your own "New Player Friendly" games and play them on cataract in 3v3's with default settings.  (Although i do recommend turning AI gold to Low and AI hp to high)

And one of the reasons for that is that it pretty much resulted in mismatches.  For instance, it didn't match you based on skill level.  It matched you based on what side you chose (light or dark).  So, if I chose light and you chose dark, you'd be up against me.  Anyway, there are a few more reasons than that, but the bottom line is that automatic matchmaking isn't really in this game.  Solution?  Hit up some custom lobbies and host your own new player games, etc. 

You can absolutely have a blast with this game - hope you and many of the new players can team up and learn to play together.  Its a blast!

Yeah - good stuff.  Nice to see more folks playing!  I've seen a lot of new player games lately (which likely means that people are being nice enough to ask the new folks to host or join new player games while they are learning.

It's not really alive per se.  It's more like a zombie that won't die.

 

Good luck playing with the prepubescent assholes that are left in the game.  It's not worth the frustration that these immature zitmonkeys will put you through - just so they can pad their win percentage, or feel more special that they've electronically called you names and swearing left and right over trivial minor crap.

Hankey - you ought to hop on the vent if you are having trouble avoiding very annoying games.  There certainly are a few jerks out there, but you know - you can find some good ones that aren't a pain on a regular basis.
