Windowblinds Acting Up

Windowblinds Acting Up

This may be the first issue I have ever had with Windowblinds. It's blacking out parts of windows. On other windows, it's blacking out the details pain and showing the menu bar there. If I maximizer it and reduce it, some of it goes away.

I uninstalled and reinstalled WB today and no change.

When I had it uninstalled, the problems did not occur.

So I see. He added the edit after I wrote 21 I think.

Restore is the only thing he can do. Maybe it'll work. Did he reboot after doing all this stuff?

The original driver should be dated, as you suggested. He can always research the prior driver by date with ATI... but one thing bugs me. Why did it act up only a week later?

Did he uninstall the prior driver or install one on top of the other?

*Rolled back the driver and rebooted. Still the same.

Not sure I understand why you won't try the roll back before restoring,

I did. No good.

If the restore doesn't work you could try a ATI driver from around the time you installed Windows 7.

This is on my Vista boot. (Dual boot...Vista and 7)

Did the restore and the windows are fine now. The detail panel is showing again and all the other little window things that were borked seem okay so far.

I now have a Windows Update to redo. Hopefully, it was nothing in the WIndows update that caused all of this,

Shouldn't. But you still have corrupt files windows couldn't fix...so it might recurr. If it does, you'll probably have to do a repair with your Vista Disk...if you have one...

Happy to see you worked it out.

Vista...that explins the lack of restore points. I would create a restore point prior to allowing the update.

I had to turn off auto updates on my Vista machine. I had a couple updates bork the machine a few months ago so I had to restore. Turned them off at that point. I'd rather pick and choose what to install.

Besides, I mainly use the Win 7 machines in the house...keep the Vista one going due to it renders so well. It took a while to get it tweaked just right so I tend to leave shit alone when it works. ;)

I'm missing something... why have Vista if you have 7? What does Vista do that 7 doesn't do better?

Fudge!

Did the WIndows Update and updated windowblinds and it has done it again!!!!

*Just got done my Chinese Take-Out and opened the fortune cookie.....

Restore...and quit messing with it. ;)

Right click on that update and hide it.

Restore...and quit fucking with it.

I did the restore. It fixed it.

Then I had to redo my Windows Updates and WIndowblinds update and it did it again.

I restored again and took out the Windows Update and now it's fine again.

If you are using the beta release of WB on Vista then you may have problems with it when the skin uses explorer transparency.

Revert to the non beta release or disable explorer transparency and you should be fine.

If all that is ok.... then did WB update recently? Are you using a pre-release version?

If so, 1) roll back by unchecking the "pre-release" option in Impulse Preferences, closing Impulse and then reopening it. 2) Doing the "Verify" again. That will take you back to the last "ready for release" version, which should work correctly for you.

Okay. Everything looks the way it should.

Now...

WIndows Update wants to run 5 updates

and WIndowblinds, Deskscape, ObjectDock2, and Skinstudio want to update as well. When I uncheck the 'Show Pre-release Version' on Impulse, the Windowblinds Update goes away. Can I assume it was that and go ahead and do my Windows Updates (again),?

*Smedley's screwing with you. It's his *special* way of saying "thank you".

I wish I was. This is screwy.

The fortune cookie thing really freaked me out.

Missed this.

Thanks! :)

I would take Neils advice first.

Also, I don't see where any of the Windows updates could cause the issue.

I wouldn't install the modem update if the hardware's working right. Besides, since you have cable you probably don't use the modem anyway.

Windows updates aren't the cause. The pre releases caused it. Next time just do #5.

Updated Windows and passed on the WB update. All is good.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Even you , Mary. Next time you decide to bitch me out in PM, I'm telling your grandson you're an ABBA fan.

I had the blacks too in explorer. I was waiting for a WB update until I saw this thread. I couldn't find the "Verify installation" with the right click until I read you have to push shift and right click at the same time.  I found that WB wasn't installed correctly. All is well now. Thanks Doc for reply #1 and Po I had this problem since the last update I feel your pain.

I would suggest that he 'paid' you to sat that, considering all the grief he has given me. However, if he had, he would have had you thank him for post #5.

Either or, it doesn't matter. He's a cheap SOB and probably would have tried to take it out in trade instead of opening his wallet.
