Demigod players - tell us something about yourself

Demigod players - tell us something about yourself

We don't really have an introduction thread here on the dg forums, so here it is.  Please chime in if you come across this thread and want to participate in the forums.

Let's start with me.  I'm pacov.  I'm a 32 year old gamer out of Columbus, OH.  I played originally as pacov, joined clan Oh My Gentlemen (silly fun story there) and change my nick to OMG_pacov.  I mostly play in Demigod as cheesuscrust anymore.  I'm a programmer by day for a fortune 1000 company and a huge nerd by most nights playing dg.  I didn't pick up DG in the beta, but intentionally bought the game at launch knowing it had more than few issues with pirates, etc. I still actively participate today and apparently initiate all of our community tournaments (the latest of which starts 10/16/2010 - which you can still register for).  I'm one of the arrogant folks willing to call themselves tier 1 players (eg the best folks at demigod), but I don't have any issue playing with other folks for fun.  I'm all for making our community a better place and seeing demigod thrive.  Other silly notes - I'm married and have a rotten cat.

When you beat us in the tourney, would you mind hopping on our vent channel and doing that maniacal laughter thing?

I agree that you should do that every time!

Let's see if we can beat you first Thunder:). That was a shot film we did out of boredom on a weekend, i hope you guys enjoyed it with it's bad production values, tells a bit about myself and gaming so thought would be right thing to share.

I watched the film Zen, lovely editing and great costume!

Adding this to the tourney rules.  If orcun's team beats you, he is required to provide at least 15 seconds of maniacal laughter in vent or his team will be disqualified for the win.  Sorry - thems the breaks.

Enjoyed watching the ocrun vid.  Glad you posted.  Can't watch youtube at work, but I'll check out zen's vid when I get back.

Is this info going to get worked into the tourney replay commentary?

My name is Rob and I'm 32, married with a two and a half year old daughter. We live in Maine, and like Jon, my wife goes to bed early, which is pretty much my gaming time (though she understands that the rules will be different for the tournament). I teach 8th grade English (though will move to High School eventually). I am mostly a FPS player, and our teams tourney practice has run into a hitch since I just picked my wife and her girlfriend up a copy of L4D2 and now they are hooked, but really need me to get them through the levels. It will be good distraction for them when the tourney starts though. Before teaching I worked as a professional chef for 10 years, here and in Seattle. Chiefy01 is my brother.

Since it seems to be a vital bit of info, I too, obviously love to read (I teach English, FFS) but have trouble staying interested in fiction, so mostly stick to science and history stuff (Guns, Germs and Steel, etc.). Catch-22 is great though. The one fiction author I have loved recently is Cormac McCarthy. The newer stuff (The Road, No Country for Old Men) is good, but Blood Meridian is maybe the single most incredibly written book I have ever read (except maybe Ulysses) as well as being the most incredibly, unbelievably violent. Highly recommended.

Been playing Demigod since the June after release, though with significant breaks for Batman: AA, L4D2, Dragon Age, etc. which is why my game total is only around 300 since the reset.

@orcun

very creative, and hilarious video, especially for a gamer like me :D And yeah that's the key just making lots and lots of shorts with friends:-) That's how the director of District 9 got his big motion picture!

Well it has nothing to do with gaming or demigod :P, but I thought I share a bit about myself^^ Did this a while back my freshman year for a 3day film challenge. And no we did not win, turned in 1 hour late^^

I'm pretty sure we can sort that out.  But unfortunately, I'm thinking of playing after a commentary where orcun's team has lost.  So... don't lose any games or orcun will be laughing maniacally at orcun.

Also - how is ocrun pronounced "or-chin" instead of "ork-kin".  Crazy talk.

lol inorite?  He told me he'd stop talking to me if I called him ork-kin one more time :P

Iirc, Turkey has a few weird characters, one of them being the รง , which might be the reason it's pronounced that way.

I thought all gamers studied computer science or engineering.

Boy am I totally off.

Orcun confirmed that it is pronounced Or-Chin :)

Lol, yeah, rawr is correct it is the "weird letter" that makes it pronounced like -ch. And Jon is the only one that pronounces it perfectly, thx jon!

I didn't know that zen, damn District 9 is such a great film.

really ninki?^^ the absolute uber pros at a particular field are the most creative ones, who go into the arts and can combine their skills with rational thinking that is needed in computer science and engineering. Most of the time i believe so. There are always exceptions of course. In rational fields, of which you named two, people think too much and loose that gut feeling that you cannot calculate^^

yeah, you should watch his original short of district 9 on youtube. Peter Jackson saw talent and supported it.

eh the stereotype is based on truth.. I know a lot of computer science / engineering major gamers.  Basically.. every single one in that major that I know games or gamed extensively.

I just think you have it backwards.  Just like all rectangles aren't squares, but all squares are rectangles.

i'm not talking about gamers in general, i'm talking about the pros that make the money in any competitive field ;) But yeah, that just my subjective impression.

I was referring mostly to Ninki.  People who play video games for a living don't usually go to college.

oh well yeah lol that's true. But I think those kinds of people would be more the type of people I describe of if they would attend college.

Maybe you film students can tell me why the Social Network has such a crazy high rating. I watched it and I thought it was just ok.

Among my crew of gaming friends we've got a graphic designer, a surveyor, a stock broker, a sales accounts manager, a grocery store manager, a teacher and a chef. And these are some real nerds, highly ranked Magic: The Gathering players and the like.
