Demigod players - tell us something about yourself

Demigod players - tell us something about yourself

We don't really have an introduction thread here on the dg forums, so here it is.  Please chime in if you come across this thread and want to participate in the forums.

Let's start with me.  I'm pacov.  I'm a 32 year old gamer out of Columbus, OH.  I played originally as pacov, joined clan Oh My Gentlemen (silly fun story there) and change my nick to OMG_pacov.  I mostly play in Demigod as cheesuscrust anymore.  I'm a programmer by day for a fortune 1000 company and a huge nerd by most nights playing dg.  I didn't pick up DG in the beta, but intentionally bought the game at launch knowing it had more than few issues with pirates, etc. I still actively participate today and apparently initiate all of our community tournaments (the latest of which starts 10/16/2010 - which you can still register for).  I'm one of the arrogant folks willing to call themselves tier 1 players (eg the best folks at demigod), but I don't have any issue playing with other folks for fun.  I'm all for making our community a better place and seeing demigod thrive.  Other silly notes - I'm married and have a rotten cat.

Glad to hear from you, Andvari3d.  It's nice to get to know the folks we play with.  Thanks for sharing!  Like the double headed ub.  :)

This is a great thread.  I'm learning more about people I see online, which I appreciate.  I think I'm the oldest person here, in a community of atypically older gamers.  I'm about to turn 39.

Computers and gaming have been my primary hobby since 1987 when I got my intel 8086.  I've been breaking them and building them ever since, and playing non-stop since Bard's Tale II (the original, in four colors!).  Ugg.  I'm old.  I bought Demigod in early 2010, but didn't like it until late 2010 when I started playing more online.  In addition to computers and gaming, I also am an avid soccer player and play in old-men's leagues twice weekly.

I'm married to a woman with her own fair share of geek cred, so that's really good.  And I got a new dog, a rescue French bulldog, who farts and snores, so that is somewhat good.

I'm an educator.  I have a bachelors in preaching (I was a minister, now an atheist).  I have masters degrees in Philosophy, Theology, and History.  And I am getting my PhD in religious history at Indiana University, Bloomington.  I am presently writing my dissertation on colonial American religion.  I teach classes on witches/heretics, the idea of hell, American colonial history, and freshman reading comprehension.

Your job sounds awesome.

I had a class as a freshman in college where we discussed lots of old literature, one of the books we read was Dante's Inferno. When you said you taught a class about the idea of hell it brought back some fond memories

Thanks for the comments.

To Zen, I have studied our game and copied some of your ub build.  I've been mauling mids ever since!  But since I didn't last very long in our recorded match, I wonder what you do after level 7!!

To Zex, yes I teach Dante's Inferno in the hell class.  Glad you have fond memories of that reading.  I'll probably add the video game to the curriculum next time I teach it (give students a chance to play it and report on the experience or some such).

To Jongalt, you betcha.  It's an interesting story if you're into that sort of thing.  I like Alan Watts, so thanks for the compliment.

HAHAHA I can't imagine girls playing Dante's Inferno for a class. It would give your students a better idea of the types of things Dante was seeing in hell but the video game is so loosly based on the book that a student who chose to only play the game and not read would be easily spotted and confused. Maybe just add it as an additional source for students to seek but not mandatory.

The game turned Dante into a knight of templar weilding a giant sythe. He runs through the circles of hell, slaughtering everything in his way while he searches for Beatrice. Eventually he fights the devil who has decided to make Beatrice his wife but it was all just a plan to free himself from his eternal damnation. Dante kicks his ass, Beatrice goes to heaven, and the games over. Like I said, loosly based but the scenery is pretty awesome and true to the book.
