The REAL Chatroom

The REAL Chatroom

Or alternative Chatroom

Ok, so I decided to create a new Chatroom, because the old one was getting pretty....old!  ;P

Everyone may post here, as well as in the good'ol Flameroom...I mean, Chatroom *_*

I would like to keep this Chatroom civilized. Well, as civilized as most forum threads are (doesnt mean that you all have to be polite like Oatesy, lol).

So for this reason, I may update the OP of this thread in the future, posting certain thread rules, as I see fit.

For now though, post away, and everyone is welcome! :)

I remember reading an Asimov book called Robots and Empire and I really liked it, so maybe something in that vein?

I believe that that's part of Asimov's Robots series, which was kicked off by the "I, Robot" anthology he wrote. Note that the book is very different from the Will Smith movie of the same name.

Preferably something sci-fi,

I have a list.

Night's Dawn Trilogy- by Peter F. Hamilton (British author, should fit right in with you!)
          Book 1: The Reality Dysfunction
          Book 2: The Neutronium Alchemist
          Book 3: The Naked God

Revelation Space- by Alastair Reynolds
Book 1: Revelation Space (the series and 1st book share the same name)
          Book 2: Redemption Ark
          Book 3: Absolution Gab
Anthologies: Galactic North; Diamond Dogs, Turquoise Days

I also second the nomination of the Dune series- just *start* with the first book, the epynomous Dune. I warn you, it's an *enormous* series- between 16 and 20 books all told. Also note that the Night's Dawn Trilogy consists of 3 books- but each one numbers about ONE THOUSAND pages!

Colostomy isn't all that bad. Once you get used to it, you never want to go back.

If I might suggest, go to Amazon dot com and download the free Kindle reader app for the PC, install it, and you can browse thousands of Kindle books. I have this and the Kindle 3G + WiFi. I love them. Kindle books range from FREE on up, and for those that are not free, you will need a credit or debit card (not to mention an Amazon account).

Well I won't be able to buy any, but I'll check it out.

And Whiskey are you going to continue your fanfic?  because I  would like to know what the Federation will do next

Writer's Block. I blame it a lot.

The short answer: YES.

The long answer:

I intend to finish A Trader's Gambit by the end of the year, and by executive order (IE my decision) it will continue to a total of twenty chapters.

The Proof of Zeal will be 'longer' by virtue of the chapters being twice as long- though at present I'd have to double-check word counts to get an chapter average to use as a measuring stick.

I also have plans for some other stuff- in particular, a very, ah, dark, Mass Effect self-insert fic that will deal with some very interesting issues- like the concept that someone who is so superhuman becomes inhuman, and the idea that, in-setting, Cerberus could get significantly more support by cloaking their ideologies in religious overtones.

Especially against either the Batarians or Turians.

So I'm double-posting. Whatever.

Just thought I would break the news to everyone:

Manly tears were nearly shed over a piece of technological hardware.

I have just ordered a brand-new Lenovo IdeaPad Y560p series laptop- complete with several accessories, namely:

NEW headset
NEW wireless mouse (of the 3 I have, one is bogarted from me mum, the other is starting to show its age, and I still no idea how to use the third.)
NEW USB hub
NEW sleeve to protect it

All for the low low price of US$866.41, including tax and S&H. Yes, that's right.

Lenovo had a sale on their delicious and extremely robust hardware. As above:

Manly tears were nearly shed over a piece of technological hardware.

T-Minus 10 Days till arrival.

I know how you feel, Whiskey144. I remember when I was waiting for my Acer Aspire 8950G-9839 18.4 inch 1080p Core i7 notebook, 16 GB DDR3 notebook memory, and a cake box of DVD-R. Three day shipping from Newegg. Those 3 days seemed like forever. The only thing I had to pay shipping on was the DVD-Rs.

I bought GC2 Gold several years ago from Newegg and I have it running on both my desktop and the notebook.

T-Minus 9 Days.

Here, have another delicious video:

Also, I have developed a significant interest in the Military Orders. Would You Like To Know More Y/N?

Y

Did You Know:

That the Order of Santiago knights were the first order that permitted their knights to be married?

That the Teutonic Knights had territory in Prussia, and even fought wars against their Polish and Lithuanian neighbors?

That the Teutonic Knights have a Protestant offshoot that is still extant, and composed primarily of German aristocracy?

That the Order of Montesa was an offshoot of the Knights Templar, established in Aragon?

That the Knights Templar were arguably the first multinational corporation and the first bankers?

That's just off the top of my head, some little trivia. Also: T-Minus 8 Days. Maybe even TWO depending on how the shipping of my computer (which shipped today) turns out- as I purchased 3-day shipping for it, but the shipment confirmation reads "2-day shipping"!

Got my comp (Lenovo Thinkpad W520) a while ago, a bit overpriced ($1700), but yet it plays games like nothing else I've ever owned.

<3

I asked for 2-Day shipping and got 19 day shipping, so yeah, Lenovo is a bit slow with the deliveries.

Best of luck to you, though!

:D

My computer arrived today while I was at work. I am typing this post using a separate keyboard that is added to my laptop.

Jah, I am so awesome.

EDIT: have a video.

You and your fast shipping...

I am glad you guys got your computers. My Acer notebook is their premium entertainment notebook. The graphics card in my desktop is an EVGA nVidia GTX 460 and cost me about $219. I didn't get either one for gaming. LOL

I have no idea what you guys are talking about, beyond the whole "I ordered a computer" thing. |-)

Yeah. I got a separate keyboard for my laptop. I'm that cool.

So, let's talk honour killings.

Seriously, what the fuck. There is no excuse for anybody to kill somebody else because they love somebody who wouldn't be beneficial to the family politics. Furthermore, I find it almsot unbelievable it is that people think they can come and live in our country and expect to be allowed to murder their sisters and daughters because they exercised their right to be a free human being. There is no way that they can support their situation: Not only is it wrong on a moral level, but surely they must realise that if they want to live in our country, they have to play by our rules.

I hereby open this topic to further debate/expansion.

Oh, btw Whiskey, just going to point out how awesome German is. I can think of few other languages in which that Eisenfunk song would work.

Also, German is the best language for soldiering. Panzer is such a better word than Tank. Also, achtung, feuer, scharfschütze, etc.

I agree with the German part, and about the honor killings, did one really happen? Because I would be really saddened by that if one has happened

And Skyrim comes out five days. YAY!!!

You have now decided that, should I have the opportunity to do so, for the GCC high school camp next year, whatever bus I end up on will get the following:

"Reveille Reveille Reveille!
Get up get up get up!
Out o' the rack, out o' the rack, out o' the rack!"

In GERMAN.

...........

It was either German or Russian.

Honor killings are a big part of Islamic culture- not necessarily in the Koran, but culturally, it is a big thing for a lot of people from extremely Islamic (especially extremist/fundamentalist Islam) areas.

Quite a few happen, it's just not been as publicised for quite a while. It's quite the latest thing all of a sudden in Britain, after somebody brought awareness to it. It's not just Muslims either, people from all kinds of cultures sometimes do it. It's just all to do with the subordination of women in many cultures.

*sigh*

Overall video game developers aren't really making anything good (at least to my tastes) at the moment...

I SEE EVERYONE PLAYING LEAGUE OF LEGENDS AND IT MAKES ME WANT TO VOMIT...

Sins: Rebellion, sure, waiting for that...

What else is there?
