The Best Or Worst Idea Ever

I don't have the computer hacking skills that some of the modders and programmers in this community that have created all the mods for this game, so I don't know if this is even possible... but could there be a mod where you could take over control of a Demigod for an AI team mate?  And then be able to switch back to your own?

I imagine the effort might be considerable, more so than would be reasonable to ask from the people who've already been too generous with their spare time to try and make this game better.  Or it might just be impossible to do with just a mod, something that would have to be patched into the game itself... and yeah, no need to get into the willingness of GPG to do that.

It would be unbelievably great for this game if this was possible.  To those who haven't played with the latest versions of the skirmish AI, its incredible what they've done.  The AI captures the right flags, buys the right upgrades at the right times, buys the right items, they chase when they should chase, run when they should run... etc etc... Of course, if you could actually take over control of an AI demigod on your team, we'd want to change the programming of the Skirmish Mod so that you could pick the skills and make all the purchases on your own.

If you could take over an AI when you needed to, it would be a whole new way of playing Demigod.  You could play 3v3 tournaments on cataract with one person taking turns controlling the 3 demigods on his team.  4v4 with only 2 players on each side...

Well, no point in going on and on about how awesome something is, that is probably impossible.

Why do people always put "NT" on a post right after they create a thread?  I've always wondered...

I think it's to have the post inside of the "My Replies" section.

yup - I put NT (no text) for just that reason.

I love this idea, microing two demigods is 100% doable by a human and you would be able to do things in unison and maybe keep the game interesting.

It's interesting, yes. The RTS element of Demigod will become much more prominent this way, so it will be a somewhat different game, but the idea itself is curious (in a positive sense).

I doubt it is possible, as the ui is pretty fixed on the one demigod (which you select before launching)

Nice idea tho

I use NT if i remove what i have posted or if i am saving the space for later.

Thanks for the answer Exx.  Disappointing though...

It is possible, but as Exx pointed out, it would likely require some significant changes to the UI to make it usable.  Actually switching control is as simple as one command: SetFocusArmy(num), however, it requires cheats to be enabled, and will probably spam 'so and so is cheating' every time you issue an order.  It will also likely not update your UI to reflect the new demigod, and may have a session-long destructive effect on the UI, requiring you to restart for it to work properly again.

In addition, the AI would need support for this, and would need to have all of its strategic goals and running processes put on hold while the player is in control, otherwise it would be continually issuing orders and fighting for control with the player.

Suffice to say, it's probably way more work than it's worth.
