5/1/2011–2v2 Demigod Cash Tournament

5/1/2011–2v2 Demigod Cash Tournament

Special note:  this is currently slated to be our last cash prize tournament.  Previous contributions for cash prizes have been generously provided by Stardock and the community.  We’ve been using those funds for cash prizes for the past few tournaments.  After this tournament, the prize pool will be emptied.  There’s still potential that we may have cash tournaments or tournaments without prizes in the future, but this is all we have scheduled at the moment.

Update – Registration is now open:  http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66

Update - Check in is live

Update - the tournament is over.  Congrats to:

TSK-Rin and ppapanek!!!

Tournament

For those of you that have not been following along, we have been running tournaments every 2 weeks for 2v2 and 3v3 competition.  Some of the tournaments will be for cash prizes.  Others will be just for fun.  See the schedule below and sign up.  I’ll open a new post for each and every tournament.

What is the schedule?

We will generally have a tourney every 2 weeks – so put it on your calendar and plan accordingly.

  • 2/20/2011 – 2v2 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination)– Noon EST
  • 3/6/2011 – 3v3 Practice Tourney (Single Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 3/20/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – Noon EST
  • 4/3/2011 – 3v3 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 1 PM EST
  • 5/1/2011 – 2v2 Cash Tourney (Double Elimination) – 2 PM EST

What are the rules?

Each tournament will have varied rules.  They will be announced approximately 1 week before the tourney begins.  Here are the rules for the upcoming practice tournament.

  • The tournament is 2v2 and all are welcome
  • The tournament is double elimination
  • No doubles are allowed
  • 1 player may choose any DGs they want
  • The other player must choose any Demigod EXCEPT Oak/Erebus/UB
  • The map is cataract using default settings (AI settings will be on low gold/xp and high HP)
  • When the brackets are created (this happens right at the start of the tourney), the team that is on the top of the bracket will be on the light side and the team below them will be on the dark side
  • Teams will pick their dgs 1 by 1.  The light side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  Then the dark side must pick 1 dg and ready up.  Then the dark side must pick their 2nd dg and ready up.  Then light side must pick their final dg and ready up.  So, light/dark/dark/light.  You MAY NOT change your demigods after you click ready.
  • For each following game, the team that finished their game in the previous match in the shortest amount of time may choose which side they want
  • In the event that your team is playing in a losers bracket (both teams have a loss and are now playing each other), the team that lost their previous match with the longer running time is on dark
  • All players must use uberfix 1.05 (you can download it here:  http://www.box.net/shared/qf7lhj1zjl)
  • All players MUST register using www.JeeLounge.com – you CANNOT participate if you do not create an account there
  • Replays for all games must be uploaded to the Jee site by someone on the winning team.  This can easily be done when you report your results in on the Jee site.

What is the prize?

  • 1st place – $150 ($75 per person)
  • 2nd place – $50 ($25 per person)
  • 3rd place – $20 ($10 per person)

Payouts will be delivered by PayPal.  If you don’t have a PayPal account, get one.  If you can’t get one, then you need to make arrangements with your teammate.  If you can’t do that, then you will not receive a payout for the cash prizes if you win.  If you do win, provide me with your team’s PayPal addresses via pm on these forums and we will get you sorted in short order.  If the needed PayPal email addresses have not been provided in 1 week, the prize money is forfeit and will be added back to community tournament prize pool.  Cash is rendered via PayPal in US dollars.  If you are from another country, the conversion is provided by PayPal.  Any fee charged by PayPal will come directly out of your winnings (so its possible the winners could receive less than the listed payout).

Additional information about the community prize pool:  once the funds run out for the pool, we’ll solicit contributions from the community and see if Stardock is willing to contribute again.

How do I get setup on JeeLounge? (Skip this if you already created an account on the site)

If you haven’t registered on the Jee sites yet, just follow these 3 simple instructions below.  You’ll still need to register for tournaments, etc, but this will get you added to the system.  You only need to register and setup your account 1 time (eg you don’t have to do this ever again)

  1. Go to www.JeeLounge.com and create an account.
  2. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/teamdg/group/home/ and request membership to our Demigod group (called TeamDG).
  3. Go here:  http://www.jeelounge.com/user/favorites/1/games Click on about me.  Click on games.  Then fill in info for demigod and set yourself to active.

How do I form a team on the JeeLounge Site?

  1. Find a teammate.  You can use this thread, pm’s, or whatever you want to track down a partner.  You can even use the Jee site to send pm’s to anyone that has already joined the teamDG group.
  2. Post in THIS thread letting us know that you will be participating and who is on your team.
  3. Once you have found a team, login to the JeeLounge site and click on Network (its on the bar that shows home/about me/network/stats, etc near the top of the page).
  4. Click on create a clan (only 1 person on your team needs to do this)
  5. Call the clan whatever you want and fill in whatever info you want.  Be sure to set membership condition to free.  That will create your clan.
  6. Next, send an invitation to your teammate.  Once they accept your invitation, you will see them in your clan.
  7. Click on create team.  Call the team whatever you want.
  8. After its created, click on edit members and add your teammate to your team and you are done.

How do I register for the tournament?

  1. Click here for the tourney page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66).  Whoever is the team leader on your team has to do this.
  2. Click on sign up and select your team from the drop down box.  Then click ok.  You are registered.

What is check in?

We use a process called check in for our tournaments.  The purpose of check in is so that we know that teams that registered for the tournament are actually ready to play their games.  We also use the check in process so that only teams indicating that they are present are placed on the brackets.  This makes it much easier to get the tournament started (instead of waiting around and hoping your opponent shows up).  Be aware that even if a team has registered for a tournament, if they do not check in, they cannot participate in the tournament.    The check in period is 45 minutes before the tournament starts.

How do I check in?

  1. Click on the following link to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66)
  2. Click on the check in icon.
  3. Choose your team from the drop down box.
  4. Click ok.

What do I do the day of the tournament?

  1. Check in anytime 45 minutes before the tournament begins (see above)  – remember, if you team doesn’t check in, you can’t play
  2. Once the tournament officially begins (2 PM EST), check out the brackets page to see who your team is playing first (remember, if you are on top in the bracket, your team is on the light side)
  3. Host a game for your opponent to join or join a game they have hosted
  4. Play your game
  5. Report your win and upload a replay of the game
  6. Check the brackets again and see who you are playing next.  If your opponents are still in game, just host a lobby asking them to join and wait for them to wrap up their game.

How do I report my wins?

  1. Go to the tournament page (http://www.jeesports.com/tournament/details/1/66)
  2. Click on the game you just played
  3. Fill in the win/loss results (its pretty self explanatory)
  4. Upload the replay (the replay will be your last game save if you do this immediately after winning)

Disqualifications

Thankfully, we have not had a need to disqualify any teams yet during our tournaments, but here are the ground rules.

  1. Intentionally desyncing a game will result in a forfeit.  If you believe this has occurred, send me a copy of your DemigodLog.txt file.  I’ll request some additional files if needed.  Hopefully we can continue to keep this nonsense out of our tournaments going forward.
  2. Long delays between matches.  The goal of these single elimination tournaments are to have a series of quick games – not to make players wait on you until you are ready or feel like playing.  All players that want to participate are expected to be ready starting at noon EST and until they are either eliminated or win the tournament.  Games should all be started within 30 minutes (eg if game 1 of the tourney has not started after 30 minutes, the team that is not ready will be disqualified.  So, please be considerate of everyone else’s time and be ready to play!

Yea that is how double elimination brackets work,  lower bracket plays winner of the high bracket, it might even have you play two games if you lose  so that one of u have two loses.

Then should we stopped the whole tournament at that point (purple left) and
resume the game next day?
I do not think it is desirable thing that tournament be stopped by one person's unplanned leave
If I had known that it is possible I would say to Tsk_Rin who work late in other to does not ruin the whole tournament
(we played 3am to 9am )

Anyway, the rule is the rule
we will follow bracket rule.
In fact both teams are very good and
game with them again is really joy for us:)
sorry about my weird English :)

Ok Zen_God you might want to share that with me :D

Thanks Pacov. To be honest I was a little disappointed yesterday as we planned for the tournament to last 3-4 hours. After 5 hours of mostly waiting it was 3am for purple (russian time) and 1am for me. Pacov wasnt available. The jeesports site didnt seem to work anymore as papa could somehow not report their win over us (fixed now). Was some confusion there.

Deep respect for Papa and Rin to show up at 3am (monday morning) their time to play a Demigod tourney and basically I cannot disagree with papa saying that purple left so we quit the tournament but I hope for the understanding of renzo and orcun that it was monday morning 3am and some people still have to work or go to school. I will try to get in contact with them to schedule a game. And the winner can take another shot at Ppapanek and Rin for the victory, although they would have to win 2 out of 2 which I doubt purple and I could pull off after the two tries (in one Rin dropped out) we had against them.

Thanks for the nice atmorsphere among the teams though. Me as being a fairly new player had some bad (N00b!!!) experience with some in the community and yesterday was a real great experience for me.

Yeah... the overall duration of the tournament was a bit unexpected.  We didn't even get to play our first game until 3:45PM due to a match before us having to be replayed due to a crash.  Then we had to replay one of ours against orcun's team due to connectivity.  Unfortunately, things just took a heck of a lot longer than was desirable.

Anyway, the good news is that everyone in the tourney is pretty understanding and respectful of each other, so I really doubt you folks will have any issue scheduling the remaining matches.  I just ask that you schedule those matches quickly.  :)

I am bit confused about this, we already played Ppanek and Rin the second time and lost. Were we supposed to play Sledge's team first? And the winner was going to play against Ppanek and Rin?

Either way, i don't think ppanek needs to play us again for the finals since they already got 2 wins against us. And if we are gonna play vs Sledge and his partner, i won't be available until the weekend and i don't know about Renzo. Let me know when you guys would have time to play.

Since Orcun came online today after Purple had left I already feared it wouldnt happen on a weekday. Is that acceptable to do it next weekend pacov?

End of Orcun-'s quote

Well this turned into a wee bit of a mess, eh?  :)

Ok.  Just to be crystal clear - orcun:  your team had a total of 2 loses against pap's team.  Is that correct?  So, you lost once earlier in the tournament to them.  Then you played a game that you folks believed to be the championship game and lost.  Do I understand everything correctly?

But that said, unless sledge's team did in fact conceed (which it appears as if they did not), then that game should not have been played for the championship.  What should have happened was that sledge's team should have played against orcun's team.

Anyway, here's what I propose that sounds fair to me.  Orcun's team should play against sledge's team.  If you absolutely cannot play the game prior to the weekend, then ok.  Just schedule a time and play the game.  If orcun's team wins, then they will be in 2nd place.  Ppappanek's team will not have to play against ocrun's team again.  If things go down as I described, then 1st place will be ppap's team, 2nd orcun's team, 3rd sledges.  And then we'll have jongalt issue payments and that will be that.

The other scenario - if sledge's team does in fact beat ocrun's team, then sledge's team will play against ppap's team.  And that will decide who is in 1st and 2nd place.

So, I think that covers everything and is reasonably fair.  On the bright side, all of you are getting some money at least.  I'm quite sure that everyone would appreciate it if you folks did your best to get that game in asap, though.  After all, we still might have to try to make sure rin/ppap are available if they need to play another game as well and I really don't want to drag this out any more than we have.

Fine with me. Guess we should play on saturday then, as early as Orcun can be available (he will be the last to get up). Will talk to renz.

According to what im understanding from jeesports brackets, my team should of played sledge's team and the winner of that should of played papaneks. We did in fact play out a supposed final with papanek where we lost , but the bracket suggests it was not meant to be before sledge's game. I am fine with redoing it the bracket way or just going for second place. up to you guys,.

Saturday then.  Please set a time and get er done.

Thanks for clarifying that Pacov. I can play anytime on Saturday pretty much, but after 1-2pm EST would be more comfortable for me.

That is good Orcun as I talked to my wife and we have a family thing going on that prevents me from playing before 3pm EST. So maybe we should set that as first target. I will check with purple if he can play then. Its again 11pm for him then but on a saturday that should be alright. Renz can you play at that time? Should be 8pm for you.

UPDATE: Purple would be available Saturday 3pm EST

About what Renz posted. I fully agree with him. Their second game against PapanRin was not really a tournament game. Only because they played it thinking it is a tournament game doesnt make it a tournament game. From my point of view it would be unfair for them if we would get the chance to play for the win if we beat them and they wont if they win. Maybe ppapanek or Rin could say what they think.

Just checked the Jeesports site to download the replay of the win RinnPap over Renz/Orcun and there is none. Arent we supposed to upload them? Would love to see that one.

Just to make sure, I talked to purple and Renz and both are available saturday 3pm EST. We will have the game that day at that time.

Yeah - I don't think ppap and his team actually had to upload any of their games.  Don't get me wrong - we wanted em to, but I think there was a language barrier there and they did not understand how to upload them on the jee site.  So, I, for instance, uploaded my teams loss on their behalf.  And so on.

Anyway, good luck to both teams tomorrow!

so... it's past 3pm est - sledge's team is waiting to play... orcun's team is no where to be found.  Unless 3rd place is appealing to you, it would be good if one of you checked in.

Renzo contacted me today that he couldnt play the game and also had no chance to announce that before. In my eyes he had a very good reason why he couldnt. We rescheduled now for tomorrow (sunday) at about the same time.

I am quite confident that this game will happen. We will post the results then on the jeesports site and also here.

At 3pm today neither Renzo nor Orcun showed up in Demigod. We waited for 15 minutes and then played the AI with Jihads combo of their last two games. What can I say, we won it. So what do we do now? Any word from Renzo or Orcun maybe?

Hey Sledge, I've been msging you on vent for a while today as I was on the road for the few days and just got home. Sorry for the delay and all, the weekend is not over yet, so I will be on vent tomorow so we can talk it out.

When is the game scheduled on Sunday?

Please make the game happen Sunday if at all possible.  Alternates are allowed if needed.  If the game does not happen, I will make a ruling and I doubt everyone will be all that happy.  So, as always, please communicate openly here or to me in vent.  I'll make sure I am on vent a good chunk of the day tomorrow (and I could probably sub for someone if needed).  Bottom line - we said Saturday and the game didn't happen.  Now we are saying Sunday.  There won't be a Monday.  If the game doesn't happen, I'll make a ruling and the tournament will end on Sunday and folks will get paid out.  So please, don't force a ruling and get your game in.  The tournament games that are actually played are more fun.
