Windows Phone 7 (WP7) Mango Update Released

The WP7 “Mango” update has been released and many have had the opportunity to update so far.  I have been playing with it for a few days and am quite impressed with this update.

Most notable:

  • Speech to Text/Voice control – You can control nearly everything in Mango using your voice.  My favorite is the speech to text which does an incredible job dictating what you say.  This is built right in, no need for a 3rd party app for that.
  • Social Integration- Whether it’s Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc., it’s all connected in Mango.  They have also introduced Groups that can be pinned to the Start screen so you can keep track of certain groups of people like family, friends, etc.
  • SkyDrive Integration – SkyDrive is now integrated and you sync your Office docs with it now.  This is perfect as you can view and edit Office documents on your WP7 Phone now.

There’s lots more, and you can see the full list of highlights here.

I'm old and not getting any younger, could you have typed 'Windows Phone 7' once before using 'WP7'.   :X

My niece swapped her beloved iPhone for the latest Windows phone with her father and she says the Win phone beats the iPhone hands down

When asked why it is better she just replied" "It just is... in every respect."

Hmmmm, I'd say she's a happy little Vegemite. ;)

One big thing is lots of its new features are built right into the OS, so there's no need to download more apps just to do something.

Okay, so if I may ask, why are these devices still called phones?

I have a cell phone and it makes and receives phone calls and a few other things that I don't use or need.

It would seem that these devices that you folks talk about are more like the 'Star Trek' communications device.  I even dare to say you folks can do more with your device then Captain Kirk ever thought about.

Just wondering.  :-"

Probably because  it's the service you are mainly paying for, whether you use it or not.
