Anyone have any luck getting deakscapes to run under windows 8?

Anyone have any luck getting deakscapes to run under windows 8?

I am just wondering if it is possible, amd if it is what am I doing wrong?

I have tried running it all in compatibility mode, but nothing seems to want to work very well, or at all,

I have a suggestion for star dock, if possible, it'd be f'n awesome if you extended this app to work with windows 8 and have the optionut in to be able to lock it as all background, including the start menue (metro deskscapes, YEA BABY), well, the new metro start menue,

It would look so slick...

Sorry about my spelling, that'll teach me to type in forums on a win 8 tablet and not read it before I post...

Come on, no one?

please please please stardock, whats the issue here? with winrt deskscapes should perform better then any prior version, want me to program it for you?

Hey, I'm no programmer and when something says it is compatible with Windows 8, that is what I expect.  I purchase another Object Desktop subscription mainly to be able to use Deskscapes.  I had no idea it was not compatible with Windows 8 until after I tried to install it.  I also have on my Stardock Central page a notice that the day I PURCHASED Object Desktop that it was EXPIRED!!!!  What the bloody H E Double Hockey Sticks!?!  I also sent an email to Stardock explaining my situation with the expiration, nevermind the incompatibility issue regarding Deskscapes.  NOBODY RESPONDED TO MY EMAIL!!!!! I gave up, figuring that perhaps Stardock was working on updating Deskscapes to be compatible at some point soon, judging by the forum posts on the forum here.

Now, today I attempted to download Deskscapes (I have a serial number for it and all), yet, here again it is telling me that my subscription is expired as of today.

Is this anyway to treat customers?  I really feel duped and ripped off by Stardock.  I have Start8, and it seems to work fine. I saw today another blurb on the website that NOW Deskscapes is compatible with Windows 8.  So, I redownloaded Deskscapes and it STILL tells me it is "uncompatible with this version of Windows."

Now I wonder, should I just chalk it up to a crappy company and move on or what?  I really feel totally ripped off.

DawnD13, please post in this thread https://forums.wincustomize.com/439302  where support will see it and I'm certain it will get straightened out for you. DeskScapes 8 is a beta release and you will need to have you ODNT sub shown as current to download it from https://store.stardock.com/myaccount

I hjave received an email inviting me to try Desckscapes 8 Beta 2 days ago. I installed and runned it with Collage. It works well. With other dreams making use of avi. there is a message that mpeg-2 decoder has been descoped by Microsoft and so the dream can not be runned.

I am satisfied with the beta

Mizrael .....

I can see the edits.

Oracle is freeware.  There is no cost to you with my option....

https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads

It's released under GPL ....

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_General_Public_License

Ya know what? I don't really care if you can see the edits. You suggesting I spend money I don't have or need to have to do what I'm already doing. Oracle may be free but I'd still legally have to buy an installable version of Vista to run under Oracle. Why you're even bothering me about Oracle in a Windows 8 thread is beyond my comprehension! Your suggestions are neither helpful or welcome so can you just drop your oracle proselytizing? Kay Thanks Bye!

Mizrael...I was responding directly to your comments.  If that's beyond your comprehension there's little I can do about it.

As for 'oracle proselytizing' it's hardly anything such, considering the last comment/reference was 6 months ago and certainly was NOT some crusade of conversion....;)

I want deakscapes!! When did that get released and why was I not aware?   X|

It doesn't even run on W7. As soon as i install it it crashes explorer in a loop so you have to restore to get rid of it. Stardock 'support' told me it was my videocard driver and i should update them. But i am using the latest Catalyst for my Radeon HD6970. After that Stardock 'support' was silent. So i told them they could keep the 10$ as a lesson for me to not advice people to buy the product.

Ha, you fell for that trick?

It runs fine for me on 7. Maybe you need an upgraded GFX card. You must be average joe.....

It runs fine on my "Average Joe" setup running Win 7. One card, two monitors. The only issue I have is with Windows 8. It still gives me a mpeg 2 codec missing notice on most of my dreams even though I have one installed. I have some DreamScenes (mpeg) from Vista that run fine on Win 7 and I can even play them in WMP on Win 8 yet Deskscapes 8 still reports there is no codec to play them.

One stupidly assumes that if deskscapes 3 runs the update also runs. My mistake.

Hi,

That means i’ll go from Catalyst 13.1 to 13.2 which on a radeon hd6950 can’t make that much difference.

Maybe I better give Deskscapes 8 a miss, and let you keep the 10$. Poor stardock, getting suckered into the winrt crap. Well who knows you’ll make fortune when MS buys you up to replace their odious interface your mixthingie.

Nice having done business, be well

Peter

If you have a 64 bit system the video would need a 64 bit codec to play in DeskScapes, but WMP would be 32 bit.

Ahh, thanks for that information. I don't have the media center option, just a codec pack.

I just installed the K-Lite 64 bit codec pack and it's all good. THANKS a bunch, sir!!!

I do have the Media Center Edition of 8 Pro, but still can't get some dreams to run. I still get the error message.

Some dreams give the error, but run anyway.

Windows8 RT only runs on ARM processors and only runs on tablets. None of StarDock software will work on win8 rt.

StarDock software works on x86 and 64bit AMD & Intel processors.

So I don't think they got suckered into anything. ;)

Some dreams give the error, but run anyway.

Some dream authors used non standard resolutions which later mpeg decoders from Microsoft do not like.  This is something that's outside the control of DeskScapes.

@redneckdude - Run this http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

I had the above message even with the media center edition of 8 pro until i updated all of directx.

OK, now all the dreams run, but some still give the error, but run anyway. A few have no preview, but run anyway.

Thanks!

I can imagine why

Because emails are personal communications between 2 parties and to publish them without the agreement/consent of the other party is a breach of confidentiality.

This has always been the case on Stardock's sites...;)
