Apple's 2012 Conference

Comment/share your thoughts on what Apple will talk about today.

Are you watching the conference today?

Do you plan on upgrading to the iPhone 5?

Do you boycott Apple, why?

What do you think will be included in the new phone?

I own the 4S and am excited to hear what is new with the iPhone 5. It'll be interesting to see if the rumors are true. Just this morning I read this article on what to possibly expect from the conference.

I had an Iphone once. When I got a new laptop, the phone would not connect to it. The phone restarted itself on random intervals during conversations. One day it did a factory reset too. Then I went to my boss and got a Samsung Galaxy II. I am now on my second Galaxy II, and I will never go back.

1. I did not watch the conference today, though i saw the "results".

And pretty funny video on top of that:

:D

2. I dont plan to upgrade to iPhone 5, i got 4S last November and it cost me 600 EUROs. :-D Probably stupid thing to do, but i dont regret, its a nice piece of machinery, and if given chance, i would probably do it again. At some point in the future, i may not have the opportunity to burn money like that anymore, so....

3. As i got their product and pretty much like it, i dont boycott them. Does not mean i like, what they do - all that patent and legal stuff with Samsung. If only they invested all that money into R&D, which goes to the laywers. Its definitely retarded trying to patent smooth corners, things like that should not even be possible in the first place.

Regarding the phone itself, most importantly its design, i found the black side-part on the black version of the phone most interesting. It does not look half bad on the screenshots, it makes the phone look different compared to the white version, which keeps the silver side-lining and thus the classic elegant design. The black is then more aggressive.

What i dont like, is its new prolongated shape, i consider its look less proportional than the 4S. Bigger display is nice, but they should make it only under condition, they can keep the previous form-factor. Otherwise, dont give shit about HW, do not think i would need quadcore CPU on the phone and there is no LTE over here, i am glad, if i am not on EDGE most of the times. Finally, i think it lacks that one completely new, "out of blue" feature, like was Siri last year. Not that i used it too much, as i am not native speaker, but seeing it last year was certainly breathtaking, it kinda made me think of computer on Star Trek, simply it approached my deepest geekiness and was perhaps part of my decision to get 4S, even though i knew, it would be more or less just gimmick to me. Nothing like that with the new phone today as far as i am concerned.

Meh, the iPhone hasn't interested me for years. The software has stagnated, Apple's walled garden completely turns me off from their products, and I personally hate their polymorphic design aesthetic. The iPhone 5 didn't show anything that made it a must-have besides making the screen bigger (which, if you'd look at Android and even Windows Phone 7 phones that have released in the past 2 years, a bigger display is nothing special).

As for pricing, what they announced is what I consider to be the norm in phone pricing these days, so they aren't exactly blowing me away with the price either.

As far as I'm concerned, Apple has fallen behind Android on the software and hardware front, and is now simply playing catch-up by implementing features Android has had for years and changing their hardware in very tiny bits (so that they can sell you the next iPhone that has yet another minor hardware feature that Android phones have had for years) to match what people are buying these days. I'm sure those who buy one will enjoy it, but I can't help but think they've been missing out and are behind the times

Well said.

I started a simple policy after I found out about Apple's labor practices in China. If it isn't made in the USA, I don't buy it ... period!

My problem with the iphone 4s is that it was very hard to modify in any way. There are no themes or anything, to get that I have to jailbreak it. All I can do without jailbreaking is to change two wallpapers and some sounds.

Apple is the brand with products that are incredibly easy to use - heck, my mother has an iPad and she doesn't do computers. But they weren't built to be customizable, and that annoys me. I fidget with stuff until it works the way I want it. Because what I want is probably different from what 100 million other people want.

So no, I shan't be buying any more apple products except as gifts to my older folks.

Apple, much like a virus, is most effective on the extremely old and extremely young. If only there was a vaccine to prevent acute iitus.

Same here, Steve Jobs turned out to be an ass hole who's legacy does not deserve my support.

So how do you deal with all the hundreds of companies who do business there and don't publicly try to improve it?  Buy their stuff anyway, I imagine.

For me, a IOS app developer, im a little disappoint at iPhone 5. The most important reason is that Apple stretch the previous screen size to 4 inch. I think this behaviour is stupid, because this will make the resolution of all iPhone models different and will be inconvenient for IOS app developers.

+1 Ditto!

I just want a phone that has an address book, can make calls, and oh yeah ... has a 3 week battery life with heavy usage.

I miss my old Nokia brick! X( That thing went through the wash twice, dryer once, fell out of a moving truck on the freeway, fell out of a two story building and exploded ... only to snap back together. Was frozen in a freezer, buried at the beach in sand, has all the paint wear off ... and it still worked.

Just checked it too, haven't touched it since June (still use it for contacts cuz I'm lazy and haven't transferred them over yet!) and it still has full bars of battery. The thing has been rocking for 9 years on the original battery and still hasn't had a problem.

Due to network upgrades this summer I am unfortunately rocking a Rugby II at the moment but it's just not the same ... it's not water proof either. -_-

Reminds me of an quote from Transformers: Beast Wars.  In reference to the strength of the Ark, Rattrap claims, "That ship wasn't built, it was poured!". Primal replies "Die-cast construction. It's an lost art".

I don't mind Apple. It's the iholes that insert the "just buy a mac and be done with it" when you are discussing an issue/problem with your PC with your friends.

Just love that superior smugness on their faces as they say it, too!

I don't like Apple period, never did. Here's the reason............

Programs and whatnot that can run on an Apple......a few.

Programs that can run on a PC.............a helluva lot more than a few.

Pc's are not proprietary.....Macs are. No off the shelf stuff for a Mac but plenty for a PC. That may be a bit inaccurate but you get the idea.

Case in point.....a friend buys a Macbook Pro. Pays $2500 US for it. My Toshiba costs $2000 US less and can do a whole lot more. His is now an expensive paperweight. Mine is still going strong and mine is older. Go figure.

Could not care less about the iPhone. My Android is two years old, was way cheaper than the iPhone, does everything I want. No doubt will have it two years from now ...

Nokia Lumia 920.......  :congrat:

...and before anyone mentions Nokia's "faked camera ad-campaign"........it's a moot point for me.  According to a handful of hands-on tests it appears the new Lumia's camera indeed does outperform anything else like it on the market today.

Of course I won't even use the camera, I'm getting this badboy for the touchscreen that I can use with gloves ON (learn something apple/android) and Windows Phone8.

The Lumia 920 is the first and only phone I would consider dumping my beloved Blackberry for.......and then only because BB OS 5 is the last BB OS I can stand.  I once upgraded my Blackberry to BB OS 6.....I lasted exactly 1 day before I had to downgrade back to BB OS 5.

What cell phone isn't made in China...? HTC in Taiwan..Blackberry in Malaysia, but for the most part, everything else is made in China...
