I hate dust

I hate dust

If you would have told me one year ago that adding a pet to the house (that doesn't shed and doesn't even stay in the same room as the computer) could add so much dust that I am now having to dust the innards of my PC once every two months... I'd call you crazy.  But, it wasn't until I noticed Fallen Enchantress screwing up on me (graphics stuttering badly), I pulled open the case after I deduced it was not  asoftware error, that I noticed a cake of dust on my GPU fan.  Man alive!  So, last time I dusted I kept thinking, 'Wow, won't have to do this for a another several months."  Nope... I was wrong.  So, now I am thinking I'll have to take other measures.   Change the vent screens around the house more often, clean more often, maybe buy a dust/allergen remover.  I have heard people suggest putting pantyhose around the vent holes on the PC, but that ain't gonna help much, at least it won't help this machine.

Sorry for the rant... anyone want a small dog?  I've taught it to sit and shake hands.  Now all I need to do is teach it how to dust itself.

I heard that Zubaz used Doc's Tech Service once. Appears Doc "cleaned" the keyboard so well, the letters came off, which is why Zubaz has so many typos.....

Talk to my Maytag about that.

Starkers went to clean out his laptop.... of course, he didn't put on his specs first...

Quoting boshimi336, reply 11The newer 902v3 cases have removable filters ... in that you have to practically take the entire case apart to get to them.

I have a Lian Li B25 which has filters on the front intakes. But since it means either pulling the entire drive cage or dealing with (i.e., risking destroying) aluminum screws to get them out, I just shut the machine off and stick the vacuum hose to the front of the case. Works just fine and I haven't had any major issues with dust buildup inside the case in the years I've had it.

I'll have to try that out. I really don't like taking the sides of the case off and moving the drive cage ... those screws are going to strip at some point. When the screens are clean it moves a lot of air. :-)

Well Dont take ur PC to this guy...

Reminds me about back in the day.  The old clunky keyboards we could wrap in tin foil and then wash in the dish washer, it worked great. At a more recent job we kept the old clunkys for the shipping dock. There you could walk out the door and grab the mill air, then enjoy yourself running down any keys that you accidentally blew free (there was a trick to doing it this way and not blow keys off) I never lost a key. With the machines themselves, the computers could run forever and not slow down no matter how much dust, although I remember once or twice using mill air with them. The thing we had the problems with was the laser printers. They didn't do well at all with the dust. The dot matrix just chugged along.  Ah, the joys of being IT assistant at a paper mill.

hehe yeh the electronics at my work get a decent amount of dirt too .( construction)  tho our biggest issue is being dropped or falling off stuff.

a paint additive, turns any wall, surface, into a permanent air, purification system no electricity or filters required.
Which is fine.....unless you have paneled or wallpapered walls, and/or feel the urge to repaint everything. Also, I don't think my 3 cats would take too kindly to a paint job.

Accumulation of dust on a necro thread can be hazardous.

Been over 6 months since the last comment.

Spam is as hazardous to your health as dust...;)

Around here, I'd say more hazardous. ;)

I'm surprised Spam [the canned variety] is still going... I've yet to meat somebody who actually likes it [pun intended]. ;P

Anyhow BOT....

I must be doing something right.  I opened up my case yesterday and found very little dust debris... in fact, hardly any.  That's after about 3 months since the last clean.  I do have fine filters on each opening and fan bay, however, and I do like to keep the area around our PC's clean.  I mean, why bother to get good equipment if you're not going to look after it, right?

Fried Spam and eggs used to be something my grandma made for us kids and it was good back then, but would I chance it now?  I have not made the effort and I don't think I will.  That and I think my wife would force choke me if I brought home a can of spam.

Dust probably is better for you than spam... and tastes better too...;)

Canned dust, eh?  Could sell well if marketed properly.

Thinking about the joke about being so old he/she farts dust, I dunno I'd recommend it for old people, though.

Could bring about fines from the AQCC [Air Quality Control Commission] for excess dust emissions

Not so sure I'd buy it... thinking about the persistent tickle in the throat it'd likely cause. :-"
