GalCiv AI question

Hello,

I am about to get galciv soon :) I have a silly question about the AI. A few placed I have heard that at certain intelligence levels the AI gets income and they compare to what you (the player) gets. What I am wondering is to they literally mean the other civs get a certain amount of money depengin on how much you make? Like if you make 50bc a turn and the PC get 50% of what you may get does that mean the PC gets 25bc a turn or does it mean that comparing to how much you gain that is how much they gain? Like you may get 50bc a turn but the PC is at a 50% rate but the PC would actually be able to get 60bc but since they have a 50% rate then they will actually get 30bc. I know this is confusing but please try to answere my question.

Or.. in other words does the amount of money you make a turn actually effect the PC players? or is the difference simply a comparison? Thanks.

Below is a sample of what I am talking about....

"......[it gets 40% more according to the intelligence levels] [At fool it gets only 44% of your income.]"

As far as I know at weaker levels you get an economy bonus, and the AI get handycaps that lower it's economy and other stats. At very high levels. You get handycaps, and the AI gets bonuses, like extra money from population, trade, and better weapons, higher population growth.

IIRC, the human never gets a bonus or penalty. However, at lower difficulty levels the AI suffers an economy penalty: for example at Fool (the easiest difficulty level) it only gets 40% of the income that it would earn at the breakeven difficult level (Intelligent, I think). At the highest couple of difficult levels, the AI gets a bonus.

The other stats of the AI are not affected by the difficulty setting, except (and most importantly), its "intelligence" which determines how likely it is to do dumb things, or to notice things (like your military buildup on its border).

The amount of money you make does not affect the AIs' income.

Short answer: no, the amount of money the player makes and the amount of money the AI makes are totally independant at all difficulty levels. (With exceptions due to trade and the like, but I digress...)

Economically, what the difficulty levels do is change the AI's money-making potential. On "Intelligent" (2 levels above the default "Normal" setting), if you and an AI race have 2 identical planets and identical tax rates, etc, you'll make the same amount. Below "Intelligent", the AI will make progressively less and less from the same resources. On the couple of levels above that, the AI makes MORE than the player would in the same place. At the highest level, you're competing against 5 AI's who EACH are making 40% more per turn than you would if you were in their place. That's why this difficulty level is referred to in-game as "masochistic"...it generally is.
