Helping new players into MP thread

So with the steam sale it seems there is a lot of new players that might want to get into the MP scene. I suspect tonight will be one of the busiest time on ICO for a while now, so if anyone has even wanted to either participate in or help with a sort of introduction to MP match please post here.

 

I'm thinking it should be set up as a basic 5v5 match with one pro player as team captains who will then explain the game to their team while not trying to kill any newb to quickly. Give them enough challenge to learn without killing them before they can learn it in other words, and explain to them what they should do in their situation. Depending on demand I guess we could have a few experienced players on each team or do smaller games.

 

I plan be doing these games tonight and possibly tomorrow night, so if any experienced player wants to be the other captain please volunteer. If anyone newb wants to join our game, please post here and if you want add me on steam.

I'd like to try one out...but wanted to just play...well, normally...without those stupid rules and whatnot. (you know, this and that banned, blah blah blah) I understand the game speed settings since this is online...and I don't want to spend the night on an online game and whatnot. xD

I want to try a team multiplayer game with human players though, since one of my favorite factions is Vasari Rebels. (I like to be more of a supportive player)

I'm up for a game online and should hopefully be available later. I'm not a super great player but I do like playing the game.

I don't know if those will be enforced. After 1.5 goes public it is quite possible all factions will be allowed.

It will be mostly new players, they're not going to know how to abuse Vasari stuff. Or at least not competently.

Yeah I know how to abuse stuff, but I don't. xD But if the AI ends up spamming strikecraft, then I'm going to fight back with spamming. Now that I think about it I've RARELY even used Starbase Mobilization...as for fleets I try to keep a balanced fleet. (though for obvious reasons I do build a lot of Overseers, lol) But yeah I don't try to spam Carriers Anti-Structures ships...Corvettes I sometimes build like 30-40 or something mainly because they die out quickly anyways. But if my opponents/AI want to play that way, I'll get like that. >.>

Goa, Seleuceia, you're far too rusty to teach about the MP community! you haven't played in ages, especially Sel. Atmos and his clan will happily coordinate some games  ^_^  Just PM me at my steam name, Konigsberger if you have questions about MP.

Well, you don't need to be at the top of your game to teach the basics.  ;)

The funniest of the new players are those who join 5s games without ever beating the AI and  they will tell you that they have no idea of whats going on in terms of what ship to build while your getting doubled. These are truly good times indeed for sins, funny times and time to hold back on feeding newbies.

 

Encourage them to play ffa first so they can get titan rushed up until they learn how to rush for titans and the rest should come naturally.

In the game that we played we worked on teaching some of the basic counters and some situations you might find at certain times. Was a lot of fun.

Just a quick one, if you like being a supportive player, or in that role. Due to the random placement in multiplayer, you may be front line and will have to fight and now support.
