Hey, first post here.

I have designed 31 ships for my custom race, all of them hand crafted from scratch, and here are a few:

[snip]

The rest are on this imgur album, with annotations, because I know you won't like being spammed with images: https://imgur.com/a/CVLsd

There are a lot of them so I don't have time to do multi angle shot for each of the ship, sorry.

None of them are blocky Terran ships, no. These are beautiful curved alien ships for a race that place aesthetic over functionality that are too hipster to follow mainstream Alterian ship designs.

Nice piece of work! The colour scheme really goes nicely, they look like jewellery almost.

Quoting Nastytang,

Quoting kenwebb,

the 2nd one is battlestar and the 3erd is a combination of Sith and Imp. I have been playing around different way's in making stardestroyers

AHH there a Old Modder good to see you Ken!!

thanks Nastytang, I did not think anybody would remember the old shipyard. Anyway could not stay a way form GIII new ship designer. I really like the new tools, it take 1/3 of the time to build a new ships

Remember it? I still use it as inspiration to this day! I for one am glad someone of your talent is here to show'em how its done

Made my B5 Explorer Class out of Cargo Hull and I think I made a mistake of making it too long.....  It is now smaller than my Hyperion in my map :(

This is a common problem, while I understand wanting authenticity, I'd make the ship both less long as much as you can, and I would also use the scaling "trick" of using small pylons out from the model, on your other ships to scale them DOWN a little.

The resulting contrast should make things a bit better looking.

@ Gauntlet - thats interesting - kinda reminds me of a Starcraft Pylon

@ Raindreamer - very catchy Design ,truly Alien in its look - just a quick note you can scale down funtional Parts and hide them inside your Designs if needed ,that Way they dont interfer with the Design itself ,and you can even make it look like your "Beam Crystals" are actualy firing the Beams ( tricky but possibly )

here are Pics of my reworked Kiwi Cargohauler - i wanted to get rid of the blocky Drengin Hull Elements without ruining the overall Look of the Ship ,gotta do the same for my other Hulls ( Only keept the Wing like Starbase Parts as they are less Bulky then some of the Hulls ,ooh and ignore the Fraps Framecount - the Designer always get a bit slow with the Amount of Parts i am using ,and my color Theme isnt exactly "helpful" :D )

new Cargosection

Detail Shot

animated Shutters and a Elevator inside + one of the Working Drones ( yeah my People are a bit Drone crazy  :cylon: )

reworked Tail

that Pink in the middle is coming from the white pulsating Glow of the main Piece in combo with my Color Theme . not really wanted but who cares ,its barely visible ingame later.

so far i have dumped most of the Drengin Elements ,only keeping a few less blocky Parts like some of the Wings later

as always Comments are welcome ,more Pics can be found on my Steam Profile

ooh and i figured out that scaling selfmade Parts isnt working at the moment ,the Moment you build a Ship with selfmade Parts in the Shipyard those Parts are back to the Size you saved em with >:(

Here's a couple of those I made recently:

Invasion Ship (cargo)

Battlecruiser (large)

Battleship (large)

Carrier (large)

Edit: hm, I actually thought imgur's thumbnail option opens the original larger size, but seems it doesn't. Oh well...

Hey all, just picked up the game last week and got hooked on it.  Been reading this thread and have really been impressed with the things everyone has been able to come up with.  I especially found some of the organic ships inspiring and so I came up with this ship for my new game.  It is my colonizer ship, used Thalan parts for it with the concept that all the pods in the abdomen would be eggs for colonization.  Let me know what you think, I'm really looking forward to progressing with this theme in my current game and coming up with more stuff!  Trying to post a pic and a video to show the animation, fingers crossed.

Is a good start, particularly the abdomen. Would you be open to suggestions?

Yes, I am a bit of a perfectionist and any suggestions or commits for improvements or coceptual ideas are welcome, thx!

Ok. First, the wings. I suggest not having them so far in. The wings just move through the body, not looking right. Try various settings, but keep the wing attached at its connecting point and do not move whichever axis deeper into the body. Not sure what you have your oscillate set to, but you might want to try it set to 'on hard point' or turn it off. See if that changes anything for you.

Secondly you should probably have the legs moving a tiny bit to show they're more biological and less metal.

Lastly. Not a critic, just an idea. Maybe making the abdomen pulsate. Just automate the size to become a tiny bit bigger and then back to normal and so forth. It will probably require trying different things to get it right.

Hope I didn't sound condescending. :/

First post ever on these forums, but this community is really cool, so I though I might share some of my creations. Hope they're up to the high standard I see all throughout this thread -- I love admiring all the different models you people have put together!

My lot are heavily inspired by Warhammer 40k, but also by Mechwarrior and Alien universe':

If you played Endless Space, you will certainly recognize this ship!

Yup, it's a simplified version of the United Empire's dreadnought, although I added a few personal touches. Made entirely with Ork Drengin parts.
