Kind of has a fish-like quality to it, Cynwulf--I like it.

Thanks Trumpeter. I am building ships for my own species the Thunarian. Who live on Thune which orbits around the star Thunar. I am hoping in this version we might even be able to pick our starting habitat such as water world, radioactive, high gravity etc. Would love to see non carbon based life as a possibility as well.

I have a request for all you amazing ship builders! If anyone is up for the challenge, try building the NYX super carrier from eve online! That was one sexy ship that I piloted a while ago ;)

A mobile sensor array design... Just goofing around a little with what I perceive is an exploit--equipping a ship with enough sensors to see an entire galaxy. No more fog of war and fun in the ship designer: a win/win!

If you got schematics for the ship I'll give a good shot.

Here are my first ships from Alpha 3 Shipyard. It took quite awhile to get used to the new interface. Having lost all the ships from the Alpha 2 Shipyard I am trying to recreate them all again. Thank God for screenshots. First ship in pictures was just messing with shipyard to get used to new interface.

Then I got more serious...

Then I got even more serious.

New Intripid Class to replace last one..

New Lexington Class Command Cruiser.

Comments most welcome. Enjoy the pics!

I actually built quite a few Eve online ships on GC2 including a nyx but I await someone to do it here with GC3 with great anticipation!

Wolf, I am going to attempt your EVE ship. I will look for schematics. Give me about a week and I'll post pics of it here. It looks doable.

Too easy. I already know it can be done. I will do the Thunderfighter too.

Very mean looking ship. Great work

If Galciv was composed of just the ship designer and the ability to watch designed ships do battle, I'd still buy it.  I love the ship designer.  :cylon:

I decided to do a redesign for all the iridium ships as I'm playing through. Here is my remake of the sniper ship...

Another angle...

...

Finally,

Just a note for devs. The flip feature is great, but the game doesn't save the info when you reload. For those that are looking to create the thumbnails of your ships, just use design and resave it eventually it will show a thumb like I have on the side there... delete the other extras. So, far in my playthrough, I've got all the initial tiny and small ships created. I'll be working on the larger ships soon.

This is offered as an argument/plea for design-your-own-starport.  It is named "Orbiter".  It is also an attempt to do complexity through simplicity.  There are 6 total parts to the ship.  A Cargo starter, where the ship under construction would go, and five copies of an Altarian part.  The copies were sized and nested into a set of concentric rings making a disk.  Each ring was then given a set of rotations based on primes and experimentation.  The overall effect of the animation is deliberately reminiscent of the alien device in Contact and the opening menu for GC2.

This is several copies of the ship in different stages of the tumbling sequence.  One copy is inside the standard Starport.  It does all the animations, too.  Once every three minutes or so it hits alignment back into the spinning disk.  It is my concept that this is when the starport has an exit window for newly constructed ships.

As a ship, it is my notion to make a set of ships with different rotation combos that I would readily recognize as different function ships.  In multi-player, it would be a challenge to tell destroyer from constructor if you didn't know and recognize the subtle patterns in the chaos.  I guess this is another reason I shouldn't play multiplayer.  :)

If there is interest, I will try to capture a video.

I don't care how good your 3D printer is, this is not going to work out.  Darn.

Now that's BRILLIANT thinking for ship design. I couldn't even imagine doing something like this. That is just pure gaming genius with ship designer.

I heartily agree! This is why we need a good community! It makes the game much more interesting. I think we need to get a central place to deposit exported ships and styles (unless there is one already).

How about something original I created to play on Galactic Civilizations III alpha phase 3 test. This is the UFP ( Universal Federation of Planets) Fighter Assault Carrier Carl Stennis, CVS-21. This is a multi-role attack and defense carrier for assaults, fleet defense and rescue operations. Carrier is large scale, can house two fighter and bomber squadrons capable of attacking and defending itself. Comments welcome.
