Disable surrendering?

Is it possible to disable surrendering?

This really needs to be tuned up.

I'm currently playing on an immense map, third largest option I think, and I've had 4 or 5 AI races now, surrender to AI factions that they were at war with, but had no border with and could not actually fight against.

Feels like it cheats you out of a real fight when the AI just surrenders if it sees itself as too weak to fight a super power.

Happened to me too.

Terrans at war with the Drengin.

Terrans beg me to help out. Which I do.

I assemble my invasion fleet.

Take one planet, then the Drengin to surrender to the Terrans, who's ass they were kicking!

I don't understand this reaction.  If the AI surrenders to another faction, there is a bigger opponent you will face.  That's where you might find your real fight.  If it is that weak and it is ready to surrender to you, then there is no real fight there to be had in the first place, just a mopping up action.  I don't mind getting to skip all that.

Well, sure, have it as an option, but I wouldn`t use it. It seems silly to want to control how another Faction acts in its fights towards another, just because you don`t like it, so you want a never ending war which is even more ridiculous.

I want the option to turn off surrenders too.  It should be a fight to the last planet.  It feels cheap when you can capture one border colony and a whole Empire will surrender.

When the AI surrenders to another faction, they don't surrender to THAT faction, they pick a faction they have good relations with and give everything to them, which in my case was 4 or 5 AI factions giving me everything they had. I didn't do anything but have open borders with them off and on.

The issue is that AI factions are surrendering to other AI factions they are at war with, when 4 or 5 or 6 factions are BETWEEN THEM. They are not losing planets. They are not fighting. They look at relative power and said "we give up" when there is actually zero threat. On top of that, surrendering to a faction doesn't give that faction the goodies. The surrendering faction selects a faction they have good relations with. In my example, I received 10-15 planet empires and dozens, if not hundreds of ships for just having open borders intermittently with the surrendering faction.

Lastly, it isn't really silly to think that a faction would resist to its last planet. We're talking about the potential for genocide of our virtual citizens. Resisting to the last continent would be par for the course against any malevolent invading faction. I can see surrendering to a benevolent faction maybe, pragmatic maybe, malevolent? No.

The Surrendering issue was one that was in GCII. There will be an option to turn it off, however it may be down the line in July or August. I am happy with the Surrender feature. It feels like old GCII.

I see the previous post where someone ragequit over an AI surrendering and making that person go into neg treasury. First thing i would have done is go over each and every planet and reset all the planets to Economy  and sell any ships which immediately give cash. Other options include tradiing the new planets off with other ai and putting THEM into debt! Good times!

Personally if the Altarians Surrender to the Drengin I would relish the fights coming up which make the Drengin stronger.....

I think this hurts the game narrative. Why would anybody surrender whole planets to the Drengin when they eat and enslave you.

The issue isn't about surrendering to a faction that is crushing. The AI doesn't do that anyways. It picks another faction and gives their stuff away.

The issue is the AI is surrendering when at war with factions it cannot and is not actually fighting. Basically it's working like this.

Altarians have 200 military strength. Drengin have 2000. Altarians are on one side of the galaxy. Drengin are on the other side. Drengin declare war. Altarians piss themselves, surrender and give the player all their stuff.

I actually just want the option as sometimes I would like to play with the AI able to surrender and sometimes not just for variety and depending on what sort of game I want at the time.

I have only seen one game where a surrender option actually works well and that is AOW3.  In that game they can (but not all the time) surrender if they are getting their butts badly kicked. And they surrender to the person that kicks their butt the most. Defiantly a big improvement over the surrender mechanic of AOW2 which really sucked like GC2 and now GC3 does.

GC3 has the potential to improve this surrender mechanic to be every bit as good as AOW3 but until then please put the option to turn it off.
