Microsoft: Bait and switch.

Microsoft is simply incapable of “getting it right”.

“Terry Myerson, Microsoft's Windows honcho, says the plebs have to wait in line, behind 5 million "insiders." And volume-license availability won't be until next month, either.” – Richi Jennings

So now this, on top of just who is entitled to a free upgrade to this gem, W10.

“Starting on July 29, MS will start rolling out Windows 10 to our Windows Insiders. From there, we will start notifying reserved systems in waves, slowly scaling up after July 29th. Each day of the roll-out, we will listen, learn and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.

Soon, we will give a build of Windows 10 to our OEM partners so they can start imaging new devices with Windows 10. The new devices our partners are working on are very exciting, I can’t wait to hear your feedback as you get a chance to use them.

Soon after, we will distribute a build of Windows 10 to retailers all over the world, so they can assist their customers with upgrades of newly purchased devices that were originally imaged with Windows 8.1.” – Terry Myerson (MS, Exec VP OSs)

So, this is like Seinfeld when he reserved a rental car, only to discover that car wasn’t available…

“See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don’t know how to hold the reservation. And that’s really the most important part of the reservation, the holding.” – J. Seinfeld

Microsoft has a problem: They can’t write in clear, simple declarative sentences and they don’t do what they say they’re going to do, nor when they say they’re going to do it:

“On July 29, you can get Windows 10 for PCs and tablets by taking advantage of the free upgrade offer.”

This is dishonesty: “On July 29” does not mean “On or soon after July 29”. Never did, never will.

How about “We have a schedule delay” – that wouldn’t be anything new to MS customers. Sorry, folks: I’m just tired of the clowns who can’t get a simple “Who’s entitled to say what and when” straight.

They may be tech geniuses, but they certainly create ugly GUIs and even worse icons and they flunked High School English (and Honesty 101).

You know it was just this kind of attitude and rebel rousing that caused the Colonists to break away from England!

keeping stuff that is OEM or Systembuilder might be a little complicated since the license will be consumed upon upgrade as Gabriel Aul posted on twitter.
Unless you dont plan to upgrade and stick to xp mellenium vista or 7 or 8.x

I am prepared to sacrifice my Media Center (non-essential) Living Room rig to the Win10 "experience". It's a Dual Core AMD A-4000 w/ 4 Gigs DDR3, GTS 450.  Should handle the OS OK.   I play a few games on it but nothing that can't be backed up to an image (I use EaseUS ToDo Workstation) and regrouped to if the shit hits the proverbial fan.

My Main Rig.....HELL NO!!!! It was born and will die a Windows 7 Machine. I dual boot into 8.1 with it but only for troubleshooting other systems. I'm thinking on letting that partition go to 10...undecided as of now.

Wiz... W8.1 to W10 is worth it. W7 to W10? Nope. Boxcar of nopes.

Stay on windows 7 and what ever you do don't install 10 over/upgrade windows 7 my Key has magically been band for to many installs, Beta testers should call in to Microsoft and report every time they install new software/ hardware, and i have been a insider for over a year testing it ......^&$@ you Microputs

I now have to fight with Microsoft to get a windows 7 key unblocked 0_O Linux is  a must for the new games no one will pay 110.00 for windows 10 and then a monthly sub for Crap IMO

1. I also participate in the insider program, and i never had any troubles with keys so far.
Once you visit the MS page and select your language and version it will display a key for you to use with the iso.

2.There is no monthly fee and there never will be get your facts right.
The quickest google result i could find see the twitter of Gabreil AUl at the bottom
http://www.winbeta.org/news/microsoft-windows-10-free-lifetime-device-after-initial-upgrade-no-yearly-fee-upgraders

I also understand the release schedule, since if you run a non US windows10 cortana will come with pretty limited understanding.
Cortana does not understand simple non English words yet, it would make sense for them to gather more data this way to release a more finalized version to the public.
While i like Edge i think there should be a small tutorial for it ( NO THERE MUST BE ONE )
Tutorials are crucial for this release in my opinion- Same as with 8 - that beeing said Tuts for everything and ASAP.

Also Insiders first does not mean they will get the final Product, look at it as expanded Beta.

windows 10 updates will be like google chrome you can't control updates and that would be worst or end specially in skinning and some products that aren't update regularly.

where do you guys get all of that information from..

"Windows10 Home users will have updates from Windows Update automatically available," the Descriptions page explains. "Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 Enterprise users will have the ability to defer updates."

http://www.cnet.com/news/windows-10-home-edition-may-force-updates/

Why would it be bad news?
Most users simply turn off updates since they have no clue what they do mostly because they dont care and dont want to spend time looking up the stuff.
Forcing crucial updates to Home users might be even benefical for them, since they will end up having an up to date protection therefore an overall better experience on windows with less problems.
Of course it is always better to have full control if you like, but there surely will be a fix for it, that more advanced users can make use of.

Only bc of one guy that used the word "force :troll: " in his article, now everyone thinks it would be super bad and jumps on it though it were the last pack of crushed ice at 104°F.

So from Win 8.1 it makes sense to upgrade to Win 10 but not from Win 7. Right?

Correct, Uvah.

Want to make sure Doc. If all goes well I'll have another laptop soon with Win 8.1 on it. It's one I've been maintaining for a friend. Its less than a year old and I installed MalwareBytes, CCleaner and ASC on it. I left the preinstalled A/V alone...for now.

Yes well they retracted that statement, and you may want to cool off before telling people to get their facts right "Microsoft's" Terry Myerson Clearly stated it was going to be a service, only .... after receiving a blow out of refusals to go in that direction they have changed their mind. and are now charging 250.00 Can for an upgrade..... Still Garbage and if you we up to date on your Facts Sir the Patch they put out in Dec to convert key to win 10 or just erase them or what ever they did Caught my windows 7 cd key, I tried out the upgrading to win 10 over windows 7 and lost my key because ( once blocked you cant get it back as per Microsoft) of it so unless you are in my seat and dealing with the issue i am, then please do not assume your all about knowing my situation, or talk as if your some pudgy little guy still in moms basement assuming you know all. I don't know all and i never will know everything but expanding the power of knowledge is the key development in the human races aspect of growth. when people like you shoot others down you can cause unwarranted mental misbehavior and loss of  self-esteem to others. And seeing as you think most people turn off their updates, well that's just ... well BAD advice.

So if your lacking the ability to understand what i have just said ill tell you in simple terms for you Mr benmanns ( No need to belittle people with your comments you may scare them off from sharing info that may be needed for beta testing Data.

I downgraded from 8.1 to Windows 7. For the last couple weeks I have been  dual booting 7 and 10. I never thought that I would but I am using 10 more than 7. I am getting use to pros and cons and have it set up so it is not that bad. I still will never get rid of 7 though. I am downloading Windows 10 10240 as I write this.

I don't see anyone here 'belittling' anyone else, other than comment #20 itself.

Let's just keep things civil...;)

In 'theory' there shouldn't be any issue with MS Key installs and/or reverting to the previous OS version [and its key].

If for any reason a Legal MS Key fails activation due to their database indicating it is already in use there is an option to 'phone Microsoft' [in the occasions I did it was some sheila in India [naturally]] but was quite painless.

Actually...not sure what I did wrong [or right] but I have two computers correctly activated in Windows 7 Ultimate....with the same key.... since December last year, when this machine went live...;)

I repeat....there is absolutely nothing of concern in post #12.

I am not an American, I am an Australian, and educated in the Queen's English, just as a Canadian would be....;)
